 [MC POV]

"Since the princess said it was okay, I'll do it without hesitation."

"Huh...!"

‘If I leave this way, the maid won’t catch me.’

The princess was sleeping soundly. Her face was calm and peaceful, as if nothing had happened. But my thoughts were anything but quiet.

No matter how much she wanted otherwise, I couldn’t abandon my revenge.

Still, there was one thing I found some relief.

It was just a selfish hope, but thinking about how she had responded tonight… maybe it wasn’t so far-fetched.

‘…Let me think about it.’

For now, I had to return to my room.

I stepped out through the window. I had planned to leave unnoticed, but I needed someone to clean up any trace of my visit.

Unfortunately, the princess was fast asleep, completely unaware of the world around her. Waking her proved difficult.

‘Fine. I still have time before sunrise.’

With that, I was quietly gazing at the moonlight pouring through the window as I rested a little longer.

Kiella was lying on the bed in her room. After a while she stretched her arms and legs.

After finishing the day’s work, her body relaxed the moment it touched the mattress, and a long sigh of relief escaped as her limbs stretched outward.

‘I really need to sleep now.’

She rolled into a comfortable position and began to drift off—until a sudden knock echoed through the quiet room.

With a sigh, she forced her tired body up and walked toward the door.

“…Who is it?”

—Kiella!

“Princess?”

Of course. Once again, Princess Iril had come knocking in the middle of the night.

Kiella could only guess what she was here for this time, but she kept her frustration to herself and opened the door.

“What is it today?”

 “…Is that so?”

“Did this happen last night? Or just now?”

“No, the night after I came to visit you last time.”

“Hmm? So… three days ago?”

 “You… were avoiding him?”

“Yeah. But that’s not right, right? How could I help him if I’m not even facing him? So today, I came to you for some advice—and I’m going to call Dayke again!”

Kiella mostly understood what was going on, but one thing still nagged at her.

“What exactly did you do that made you avoid him for three days?”

 “…What?!”

“Dayke won’t be at the castle tomorrow.”

“Huh? Why not?”

“He’s going on vacation. He’ll probably be staying at the Knights’ barracks for the duration.”

“I see…”

The disappointment on Iril’s face was clear, but Kiella had a stronger desire to end the night and rest.

“So, let’s leave it at that for now and talk again when Dayke returns.”

“No! We need to prepare in the meantime!”

“…What?”

Without realizing how overwhelmed Kiella was, the princess kept firing off questions.

In the end, Kiella had no choice but to spend yet another long night keeping up with her royal visitor.

I had taken leave from my job as a legal assistant and stepped out of the castle at first light—for the first time in quite a while.

Even though I was technically on vacation, I had promised Agnes she’d visit often.

My steps felt light as I headed toward the barracks, thinking about how good it would be to see Agnes and Rize again after so long.

It hadn’t even been a full week since I became an aide, and I was already on vacation. But then again, my boss was Kiella—so who cared?

Sure, Kiella might think poorly of me for slacking off, especially since I was planning against the queen. But working nonstop wouldn’t earn any praise either, so it didn’t really matter.

‘Hm? The parade ground’s empty… Oh right, the Knights are off too.’

There weren’t set weekends like on Earth, but the Knights did have their own scheduled holidays.

As expected, when I entered the barracks, the hallways were lively and crowded with members enjoying their time off.

“Huh? Dayke?”

“It’s been a while.”

“Judging by your face, the castle must not be so bad, huh?”

Familiar voices called out one after another. Though not overly friendly, the atmosphere had shifted—they were starting to treat me like one of them.

Then, a louder voice rang out behind me.

“Ah! Senior Dayke!”

“Fine? Oh?”

I turned around and was momentarily surprised.

“It’s really been a while! Are you on vacation?”

“Yeah. But… You look taller?”

“Oh? Is it true? The other seniors said the same thing—so I guess I did grow a little!”

Enjoy!!
