The drawings of July. Quite a good bunch this time! Apart from eight of the $15 reward, a couple from last minute additions of previous month. These first 11 days of the month I've also done a private commission (that I can't show, obviously), a sketched page of a bloody boxing match (that I don't show because, well, it's not very erotic) and an ilustration based in an alternate version of my comic Fetish Affaire (almost same scene with a different girl).
Also I've include some sketches of Wanda tickling from a disrupted commission. I'm not proud as I cancel from my side. When after the usual 2 sketches I do a new version following closely the instructions and then I receive a longer email with even more retouches to be made, the panic alarm scream in my head. As I get paid up front I always try to be professional and finish the job even with complicated clients, but it's summer, I'm very tired and I still have lots of things to do before vacation (well, vacation to be free to work on other personal projects)... So this case has made me realize one thing: commissions are getting out of control.
I'm happy because bit by bit I need less storyboarding jobs (2 last year) or teaching jobs and I can focus on produce fetish stuff. The commissions are usually easy and comfortable to do. Drawing girls, in my style, no hurry. But there are still some problems.
- I'm easily overflow. Even a single client who ask me for 3 color drawings can collapse my schedule of the full month.
- I can lost my way. For money I can take jobs that don't contribute to my erotic portfolio. Boring, strange or for-private-use stuff.
- They distract me from my comics. And making comics is much easier if you can concentrate, for sure.
Fame only aggravate this, as more people want to hire you. Last several weeks I've almost stopped to promote my drawings in social media because right now I'm already busy for quite some time and I just want some peace for the summer...I don't like to reject new clients! They all tell me how much they love my art! They are lovely persons indeed!
I'm not sure how to solve this problem yet. I want to do some changes in my website, including my commission info. Maybe to limit the number of commissions every month and make a public queue list or only accept commissions that really align with my interests or close for a while and focus on comics...
All after the summer...
