The Problematic Queers of J. Blakeson | READUS 101

Writer/Director J. Blakeson has introduced multiple problematic queers with his films "The Disappearance of Alice Creed" and "I Care A Lot," and his television show "Culprits." Each of them highlight problematic queers as the main characters in stories that are just as requested as the "good" representation we've been receiving, but aren't talked about as much. And part of the reason why is thanks to how respect and respectability handles LGBT representation and what heteronormativity is trying to tell us is most important.

Thing is the media made by this guy & these queer characters aren’t engaging to me. Those films isn’t interesting for queer ppl being free to be villains. It doesn’t feel meaningful. It’s just recycling of homophobic story patterns. It just sucks and I don’t hear other queer ppl ever talk or have an interest in Blakeson or his work.
