Hey everyone, welcome to a big progress report!
I know many people are excited about the new update, which makes me extremely happy. v0.12.4 came out around 2 months ago, and we're hitting the point where people start itching for a new update. So I decided to make a graphic! I'll keep this up to date every Tuesday, gathering data at the end of Monday.
The second draft of v0.13 is complete. I will need to do another one, but after everything has been implemented into the build, I can play it for myself and see where things are lacking.
Many delays stem from here, mainly because we have much to do! Our fantastic lead programmer, Noba, is creating a functioning cellphone that players can use to:
Chat with characters.
Check character stats. (How many times you've done something with a character and relationship status)
See Cafe Rank progress, exp, and player finances.
Get guidance on what to do next for each character.
Cute/Lewd wallpapers.
And then he is coding a coffee-making minigame! In addition to the usual coding tasks of connecting events to the map, adding Notos as a location, and ensuring the whole thing plays. Noba has already revamped navigation in the game, which is much more straightforward than hunting for a door.
This is a lot, and it is going to take time. Just know that once these systems are implemented, it will be smoother sailing... until the next minigame, but that isn't till mid to late Episode 7. ;)
v0.13 has 13 new lewd scenes featuring topping and bottoming for Jeze, Dani, and Ash-Lee. These are all drawn, and only 4 need to be animated. Our current animator, Koth, is hard at work animating the scenes for Episode 6. (and, might I say, doing some insane work, seriously.)
Since I knew we'd be working on this update for a while, I asked Kokman to redraw many older scenes. Funny enough, that number ended up at 13 lewd scenes! (So far, you never know.) Episode 1 is getting wholly revamped, and most of Episodes 2 and 3 are also reworked. 3 of those scenes are already animated by our newly hired second animator, ErassdZ!
We also have all the special moments for v0.13 done and are revamping some older ones.
Sprites are a funny matter. We have added Ash-Lee and Dani Tea as guest characters to the game. We also reworked Vera and Robbie, and Maki got some touch-ups. We will do some reworking on Tay and remaster Kayra. (Which should be fine; they aren't even in the game yet)
Along with a new Tutorial character to help give some eye candy and personality to the boring tutorial bits. But the 5 other sprites are our new Customer tier backers who will be drawn into the game as customers for the Coffee Minigame! Thank you, Lapis, Tabor, Marshall, Kristofer and Goby, for being the first 5 Customers!
(Note that you need only to be a customer for 1 month to get added to the game. Once someone cancels, someone else can also become a Customer. We'll keep adding people to the game until we have enough.)
These are the assets for the Coffee Minigame, along with backgrounds, background elements, and a guest artist doing phenomenal work. We have about 46% of the Coffee Assets done.
So there we have it—a much more organised and structured look at what we do here at RadLord Studios. We are expanding and hiring new people. A part-time coder plans to join to help me organise all these variables and routes. We hope to get them onboarded in February. We now have two animators, a second artist to do some assets and design, and a guest artist doing a long, special project.
Tax season is upon me, so once I have a better understanding of my finances, I might be able to get some more help with the game. That is what I want to do! I want to bring more talented people on board and make the best game possible—and then another one, and another, and so on.
I know waiting for a new build sucks. I just waited 2 years for the latest What a Legend! build, so I honestly feel you. But your continued support means I can feed my family and hire new people who will breathe new life into the project and help us build this ship faster and better. If you can keep supporting me, thank you. If you can't, I understand.
The biggest question, the one that plagues my DMs, my replies, our Patreon chat, our Patreon DMs, our Subscribestar DMs, our Discord server:
Given all the work required, we estimate it will take at least two to three months before the first Alpha. Now, that is if we don't skip anything. Suppose we skip the Coffee Minigame, perhaps a month and a half. The first Alpha would include most content, excluding the minigame, the Journal on the Laptop, and maybe the hints on the phone. Then, we'd do a second Alpha with the rest. We looked everything over, and the Minigame would take, at the very least, a solid month of work. Not to mention testing.
We're debating what to do, but I'll let the $20 backers discuss their feelings about that here or on Discord.
