"Will this suffering ever stop?" Gabrielle questioned herself as she overlooked the valley. An army of 2000 had gathered in the distant valley. Rows upon rows of tents and large siege weapons from ballista to catapults were lined up. Enough troops to overtake the strongest of fortified keeps.
Gabrielle held the two gigantic axes in front of her, their metal surfaces reflecting the light from the bright mid-day sun into her eyes. "I don't know whether to call you a blessing or a curse" She spoke to the two magical weapons.
It all began when she found these mystical axes in the depths of the wailing caverns, hidden in the forbidden valley. When she first laid eyes on them, they were soo oversized that she wondered if any man would ever have been able to wield them. It was said that whoever wielded them, would be granted the power to bring salvation or destruction to the world. But she needed them for one thing only. Safe her Xena from Ares, who had captured her friend and mentor.
When Gabrielle touched the handle of the first axe, she immediately felt its power surge into her. The sensation was electric, intoxicating. Within seconds she had swelled out of her garments. Transformed into a barbarian of epic proportions. Growing from a small maiden into a gigantic warrior goddess with muscles to match her size. In her years with Xena, she had seen plenty of monstrosities. From the fabled Minotaur to demonic creatures conjured by the gods that would harass the people of this realm. But none could match the utterly muscular being she had now become.
It had only been months since her transformation. During that time she has been challenged by kings, warlords and gods, eager to claim the power of the magical axes for their own gain. But no matter how many men, monsters and siege weapons were sent against her. She had fought them all off with ease, leaving nothing but death and destruction in her wake.
She had taken more lives in the past months than all gods combined in the past years. It was the axes, the power that had become one with her. As long as she wielded them, her body would not allow her to go easy. How much she tried to show mercy, she was a captive of her own power.
Every challenge was met with utter bloodlust.
"This power does not grant salvation, it turns one into a blind berserker." She ranted against the oversized weapons in her hands. "But, It will be over soon, for beyond this valley lies Ares's hideout. And my friend..."
Gabrielle once more peered into the valley before her. The huge army, controlled by Ares had mobilized, and the first Phalanxes began to move, spears and shields gleaming in the sunlight.
As soon as she realized the battle was upon her, the axes began to pulse with energy. She could feel her heartbeat rising as the infinite well of uncontrollable rage began to erupt inside her once more.
A tear ran down Gabrielle's face as she prayed for the men and women before her.
