The UK producer that's known as a pioneer for drill beats is Carns Hill, from Brixton. He made rap beats for 67 and then started making them their own drill beats so they didn't have to use American ones. I generally agree UK hip-hop is behind the US as that's a main influence, but we are not just influenced by the US, so the sound often becomes it's own thing. For drill what UK producers added is what made the sound global, especially with Pop Smoke jumping on them. Garage is another genre that got a UK face lift and outlasted the US version, I don't think many people know there was a US version.
