Watch This Show: A Handmaid's Tale
Added 2017-08-11 06:48:05 +0000 UTCHey All,
It's not everyday I'll recommend to you a piece of fiction that's not somehow related to actual history or politics. I love many types of fiction, of course, but when it comes to CLS, I try to stay on-topic.
The thing about Hulu's A Handmaid's Tale, though, is that it straddles the line. It's a show that takes place in a fictional near-future of the United States, and it's so highly political and charged with that variety of intrigue, that I think a lot of you guys and gals are really gonna dig it.
Based on the short novel, A Handmaid's Tale tells the story of a future where the United States is destroyed from within by a militarized Christian movement, and in its place, the country of Gilead takes form. Gilead is ruthlessly run, with a built-in caste system and an uneasy relationship with other world powers, most notably Canada, who is absorbing endless refugees from the south. Making matters worse, the entire world is going through a fertility crisis. There are barely any children being born, something at the center of Gilead's formation.
I don't want to say any more, other than to recommend it to all of you. As I said, it's on Hulu. It's 10 episodes, so if you don't have a Hulu account, I think you might be able to do one of those week trials, and then just cancel.
Anywho, I wanted to put it on your radar, though I imagine many of you have already heard of it, and maybe even watch it. But if you haven't, consider it!
News Burst tomorrow. 'Til then!

2017-08-11 20:26:47 +0000 UTCI was going to watch it, but I couldn't get around the idea of Elizabeth Moss, one of the celebrity faces of Scientology, playing a character in a world in which she is taken advantage of by a religious entity.

2017-08-11 20:14:50 +0000 UTCI started it because of the hype I was bored out of my mind in the first episode and a half or so. But I felt compelled to keep going on last weekend and I ended up loving it.
