Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed it.

Colin Moriarty

There's really no reason for this level of lunacy.

Colin Moriarty

Thank you for watching! It's weird that not acting like a barbarian is a radical take these days.

Colin Moriarty

Thank you! Glad you learned something.

Colin Moriarty

Colin this is my favourite episode to date! It was so good, it just hit all of the important points on this topic and I'm so glad these thoughts are out there for people to ponder!

Another sad story about vandalism http://www.wkyc.com/news/local/ohio/police-confederate-soldier-statue-in-ohio-cemetery-vandalized/466430481

This is exactly what I've thought the past week or 2. Take down the statues and put them in museums. Don't destroy history, but don't force people in public areas to see it. Thanks too for the history lesson on early Americas. My thoughts went to the Dark Ages in thinking about the destruction of these statues. Let's not do that again please. Thanks Col!

As someone who likes to learn about WWII, I found the tidbits about Hitler interesting. I didn't know (or had forgotten) that he was a failed artist. Another great video overall, Colin.

John Burleson

It's easy for people to become what they hate.

Colin Moriarty

Amen.

Colin Moriarty

You and me both. Thank you for your support!

Colin Moriarty

A very unhappy person.

Colin Moriarty

This has been my argument for so long... people become fascist when arguing against things they don't like.

Kenneth Koepnick

Save all the art. let people know what has happened in our history.

Joey Finelli

I can't believe you have already made 37 episodes! Keep up the fantastic work, Colin.

Nice vid Colin really cool. Btw I saw your post about that Bob Mackey @bobservo guy ... who the hell is that?

Brogan Wassell

Beautifully said. Thank you for posting it!

Colin Moriarty

As you point out, there's plenty of blame to go around. It's extremely sad that any of this needs to be said; you're right.

Colin Moriarty

Indeed.

Colin Moriarty

=)

Colin Moriarty

I'm glad to be your voice! Thank you for watching the video, and for your support.

Colin Moriarty

I'll have to check out the video a little later tonight. Thank you for sharing it!

Colin Moriarty

I haven't even looked into it, but I will. I suspect if YouTube goes upside down, I'd just make CLS into an audio-only show as opposed to moving it to another service. Maybe do three a week instead of two or something. But, that's all hypothetical, and hopefully it'll never come to that.

Colin Moriarty

Totally valid feedback. Thank you for providing it!

Colin Moriarty

Thank you for watching. I'm glad the video resonated with you!

More great stuff Colin, it literally me sick to my stomach watching that statue come down, that's the kind of denial and destruction that ISIS practices, it has no place on these shores. Why no one that is involved in these acts can see that fact is a huge mystery to me. No one has the right to destroy public property like that, and the fact that no one stood in to stop them is it's own outrage. I'm glad to see police arrested some of those involved finally, but the event should never have been allowed to take place. Thank you for doing your part to remind us why that is.

Bryan Finck

Terrific video. What has been done is shameful. People have lost all self-discipline.

Peter Campbell

Well said Stephen, history is what it is. We should learn from it, move on(!!!), and grow as a people....TOGETHER.

Lou & Rei Loper

Just fucking wonderful work here. (so nice I had to comment twice lol)

Lou & Rei Loper

Goddammit Colin.....I've said it so many times, and it just keeps getting truer and truer. You really are "MY" voice on the internet. This was a beautiful video man, well done. I hope it reaches the people that need to hear this, and that they understand(!) the message.

Lou & Rei Loper

And here is the opposite thought process to your points in this video on display on the jim Jeffries show. https://youtu.be/T35zaB1Vm3g I like the historical context that was given in your video Colin mentioning countless sites, monuments, works of art, etc that would fit into the same category of "if this exists then racism is allowed to remain." But if we forget our past we are doomed to repeat it. The nuanced aspect of this is that because of Charlottesville we are discovering that these monuments are like bronze idols of pride for racists. I've been to the holocaust museum, I've seen preserved nazi creations but they're all in the context of the horrible atrocities that were acted upon anyone the nazis did not like. If these symbols of price for racists were to be moved to something similar to the holocaust museum and shown in context beside depictions of the atrocities of slavery they could perhaps serve to educate racists rather than embolden them with "racist pride."

Christopher Lee

In this, Colin. You and I are in lockstep agreement. I oppose, openly and publicly, the vandalism of these Confederate monuments, or their forcible removal without the consent of the states or towns they exist in. If the purpose of those who do so is the "erasing' of certain aspects of American History, then how can we study and learn from it? As a general rule, I oppose ANY attempt, by the left OR the right, to revise, sanitize or otherwise alter the facts of history to serve a preferred narrative rather then the truth; good bad or ugly. As a student of animation, I remember being appalled in the 90's when Cartoon Network aired "sanitized versions of the classic Tom and Jerry cartoons. Now the original shorts were, yes, filled with plenty of racist & sexist tropes of the era in which they were created. One can choose not to watch them, and Cartoon Network was free not to include them in its programming if it so chose. Instead it heavily edited and even re-animated some shots to gloss over what was considered offensive. Which I thought was wrong. It's no different with the Confederate monuments. Obviously, as a Black man, I'm not thrilled about what those statues represent, just as i didn't exactly cheer when the "Mammy Two-Shoes" character represented my race on Tom and Jerry, but I may be one of the few Black people I know who would be OK with even Song of the South being openly sold or available for viewing; maybe perhaps with notes regarding historical context...but seen *unaltered* from it's original form. The solution is NEVER to deny one's history, but to FACE it and LEARN from it.

Stephen J Seidler

Another great video Colin - these are complicated times. Any chance you're considering uploading your videos to Vidme? A lot of youtubers I follow are starting channels over there in the wake of the Google Memo and I think it'd be a good idea for you, as it has a tipping option on individual videos and being a fan supported channel, that might be a nice new revenue stream for CLS.

Marc Boggio

As someone who would also like to see Confederate monuments removed as soon as possible (through local governments and city councils), I was really dismayed to see the vandalism on display in Durham. This is such an unforced tactical error that sets the cause back, only adding fuel to the culture war flames. I'll be urging my counter-protestor friends in weeks to come to not take the bait, either in terms of vandalism or laying a hand on any other protestor. Some feedback: I think that videos mentioning acts of domestic terror or political violence can establish greater credibility, among all audiences, by adding 6-7 extra words contextualizing who killed whom. Even if mentioning the event in passing, we would not say that "a shooting erupted at a baseball field in Virginia leaving several injured." I'd imagine that you and most folks might take issue with that characterization. We'd say instead that "a politically motivated shooting spree by a political activist on the left gravely injured Steve Scalise, a senior House Republican." Likewise, instead of saying "violence erupted and a young woman was killed in the process", we'd say something like "a neo-Nazi protestor rammed his car into a crowd of counterprotestors, killing 32 y/o Heather Heyer, and injuring 19 others." I don't think you were trying to consciously omit any facts, but I do believe that a few additional factual words can go a really long way. Looking forward to the next video!

Josiah Lambert

Great video - provided much insight to help me align my viewpoint. While I initially thought tearing down the statue in Durham was ultimately good, the rabbit hole destruction like this may lead to in the future is a scarier reality to grasp and navigate within. There's an answer somewhere in the middle to make these situations right - but that's not news to anyone following CLS.
