Introducing CLS KnockBack, A New Podcast Series

Hello.

Surprise! CLS is launching a new, weekly podcast series called KnockBack, and Episode 1 goes live next week here on Patreon.

CLS: KnockBack is a show dedicated to all of the deeply nostalgic stuff from our past, the entertainment that diverted our time, money, and attention during those good old days, whether that means last year, last decade, or last century. Movies. Games. TV shows. Books. Toys. Cartoons. You name it. And I’ve tapped the perfect co-pilot to steer this retro-fueled ship with me: My brother, Dagan.

Today, Dagan is Lead Designer at the illustrious Sesame Workshop in New York City, but back in the day, he was the person who infused in me a true and everlasting love of nerdom. This is the guy who would wake me up after everyone went to bed so I could watch him play the latest NES or SNES game. This is the guy who used to bring me to the movies to see everything from TMNT to Fire in the Sky, who would put me in the car and take me to the arcade, and who turned me onto JRR Tolkien and Ray Bradbury. The man who used to go to shady shops in New York City’s Chinatown to procure the latest crudely-recorded anime from Japan, who paid $100 for a Street Fighter II cart at launch out of desperation, who went over his GI Joe collection with me in meticulous detail, and then gifted me the entire thing. This is the guy who can’t stop drawing on his Instagram, who is raising his son to be the biggest Mega Man nerd the world has ever known, and who named his car Shinobi.

I guess what I’m saying is: Dagan is the man for the job. I am honored and excited to be able to finally collaborate with someone I love more than anything in this world, and who I know you’re all going to fall in love with, too.

With KnockBack, Dagan and I want to create a catalog of topical podcasts that have legs. It’s not to say that some podcasts won’t ebb with time, but our primary focus is to celebrate and/or criticize and/or discuss what’s already happened, maybe a year ago, or maybe a decade or century ago. Each show will revolve around a specific topic, and will involve your input (more on that in a minute). In short, we want to both entertain and inform. I’m confident that we will.

Since you asked nicely, here are the topics we’re going to cover in the first eight episodes:

I feel like I could write a novel about this show, but an FAQ will be most effective from here.

What is CLS: KnockBack?

CLS KnockBack is a new, weekly podcast starring Colin and Dagan Moriarty that focuses on topics in nerd culture, topics that span time, place, and format.

Why Call it KnockBack?

I think Dagan nailed it when, once we settled on this name, he described it as kinetic. I think he's right. A Buy-Now, New-Is-Best, What's Next? culture permeates every aspect of our lives, especially when it comes to video games, movies, and the like. KnockBack's name represents this need within all of us to sometimes force a look backwards, even if we can't help but keep our eyes on what's to come. Let's study, enjoy, and remember what came before.

When and where will the show be posted?

Each episode of KnockBack will be posted on Patreon on Thursday for $5+/month subscribers, six days earlier than the public. The following Wednesday, each show will go live for all audiences on CLS: KnockBack’s SoundCloud, as well as podcast services, and then the day after that, a new episode goes live on Patreon, and so on. This is an audio-only show; there is no video component, and individual episodes will not be posted on YouTube.*

The reason we're revealing the show before we go live is because we want you to be involved in each and every episode. In a few hours, a thread will go live here on Patreon soliciting questions and comments for each topic that may be used in the coming episodes. (This is for $2+/month subs; more on that below.)

Dagan lives in Philadelphia. How are you going to record?

In person. Duh! Dagan is coming to Santa Monica for four days (beginning tomorrow) to record the first batch of episodes. I will then be heading to Pennsylvania in May-ish to record the next group. And so on.

I hate recording podcasts from afar, not only from a quality standpoint, but from an engagement standpoint. The only way this show could work is in person, so we’re making the time and spending the money to ensure that happens. We’re dead serious about making this show great.

How does this affect Colin’s Last Stand?

As an entity, CLS currently produces three shows a week: Colin’s Last Stand (or what I often refer to as CLS Prime), CLS: Fireside Chats, and CLS: Side Quest. To make room for KnockBack, CLS Prime is going to be put on hiatus for an indefinite period of time. I’m sad about that, but it’s a logistically necessary move. There’s simply no way around it.

It’s hard enough to manage three shows at a time, so four shows would have been impossible. CLS Prime has the least viewer and Patron demand, and I think it’s a show that needs a break. The last episode about Donald Trump will be the last episode for awhile. When the show comes back, I suspect it’ll be a bit different, and frankly, if and when it does will be determined by if there’s demand to return to that format and subject matter. I’m listening!

How does this affect Colin’s Last Stand’s Patreon?

Colin’s Last Stand’s Patreon has been totally reworked, and has more value than ever across all of the tiers:

Okay, so I think that just about covers it.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, I’ll be reading and answering below. You can also reach out to me privately here on Patreon, in case you wanna talk that way, instead.

I truly hope that you’re excited about this new show. I certainly am. And I hope that, if you’re not here on Patreon yet, that you come and join me on this wild, strange, and hopefully entertaining ride. Your support allows CLS to exist and evolve, and without you, none of it would be possible. Your kindness and generosity is appreciated, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you’ve allowed me to do.

See you Monday for Side Quest, Tuesday for Fireside Chats, and Thursday for the first-ever episode of Knockback!

Your friend, -Colin

---

* - I will, however, be bundling together episodes five at a time and posting them on Side Quest’s YouTube channel, similarly to how I bundle together episodes of Fireside Chats and post them on CLS’ YouTube channel.

** - When I made the ad-free declaration, CLS was a video-only show with one product that had a built-in advertising mechanism on YouTube, should it ever be needed. CLS is now four shows, and three of them are podcasts. It’s a different world. While I’m not sure what I’m going to do on the monetization front with KnockBack and Fireside Chats yet, what I can tell you is that anything video-oriented (like Side Quest) will continue to be free of baked-in ads, and that, should I ever go down the ad route with the podcasts, early-access Patrons will never, ever have ads in their shows, and, once those podcasts are free for all, the version on Patreon will remain ad-free for everyone, so you’ll always have an ad-free option, whether you’re a sub or not.

Comments

Listening to the War Movies Episode- such an amazing war movie is Enders Game. The setting, the characters as kids because adults can’t fathom it, and the twist. So awesome!

Eric Sills

Thank you so much! I hope you enjoyed Episode 1!

Colin Moriarty

Another Podcast!! You're making my dreams come true man. I work in an office all day so it's hard to watch your videos but I am always up for more podcast. If only I could get all of your content in podcast form, I would be so happy... Anyway, keep up the awesome work and I can't wait for KnockBack!

Buddhist Possum

I think I understand what you mean. I look forward to see more content from you. Thank you for a reply :)

Niklas

I'm glad you're excited. More soon!

Colin Moriarty

I’m a huge fan of the more conversational stuff you do, so these topics/this style sounds right up my alley. Super excited to see what comes next! <3

infinitenat

I'm glad to hear it!

Colin Moriarty

I'm going to miss it, too. But my intention is to bring it back in the future!

Colin Moriarty

It's an option, but let's see how everything settles over the next few months, first.

Colin Moriarty

Thank you for your kind words! I hope to deliver the content you like. =)

Colin Moriarty

Thank you! The toxicity of the entire field is certainly something that made it far easier to walk away, I will say that.

Colin Moriarty

Thank you! Unfortunately, the show was not growing and it was not attracting Patreon subscribers. So I had a choice: Either double-down on my pride, or be more open to what folks want out of me.

Colin Moriarty

I'd have to look into that and see; I don't have an answer for you right now. Sorry!

Colin Moriarty

It would be virtually impossible. That said, it is my intention to bring the show back in the future in some format, some way, some how. We shall see.

Colin Moriarty

Thank you for your feedback! Truth be told, I think as time has moved on (and as I've explained before, though I don't blame you for not having seen or heard it), I came to realize that it wasn't the subject matter that was getting me down, but the way we were doing things that were systematically eroding any desire I had to do what we were doing. CLS will continue to evolve and be what I want it (and what you all want it) to be.

Colin Moriarty

Thank you so much! I'm excited, too. (As I'm writing this, four episodes are already in the can.)

Colin Moriarty

Thank you so much! I agree; I think the podcasting medium is so convenient.

Colin Moriarty

Pat and I just exchanged numbers last week; I'd say it's a safe assumption that I'll do something with him when I next find myself in San Diego.

Colin Moriarty

I will love this!

Megan Gierlach

I am doing to miss CLS Prime. I really enjoyed it and I do hope it comes back as I really enjoy listening to Colin's take on politics and I also enjoy learning more about history.

Benjamin

The new podcast sounds great! I'd like to make a recommendation - You should start a CLS twitch channel (even if you do not use it or maybe once a month?), I have this free Amazon Prime Twitch Sub that has been going unused

Brad Bury

I know I'm a little late to the party, but I wanted to say how great I think this is. I love hearing Colin touch on alot of different topics, and the variety in shows is amazing. I also think cycling some shows out as necessary is a great way to approach this, and I'm glad Colin isn't afraid to do that when the community seems to be leaning that way. I do hope to see Prime come back though. As usual, great job Colin!

Brandon Streeter

I feel the same way as Victoria. I’m very excited about the new content and from hearing you and your brother talk about these things! Your Fireside Chat episode about The Last Jedi was great. But, I am sad about the loss of CLS Prime. I’ve always loved your voice on politics and your knowledge of history is exemplary. History was always something of a fascination of mine, but I have more of a technical/analytical mind so engineering made more sense for a career. But, I do understand why you want to put it on hiatus. The political world is unbelievably toxic and that can be very draining on anyone. I’ll definitely miss Prime and will be very excited when it makes its return.

Adam Niksch

I'm excited for the new content! Sad about Prime though, it's my favorite and the reason I started subscribing in the first place. You're just so good at talking politics and history. Hopefully it comes back soon!

Is there any chance we'll see episodes of Knockback on Spotify? Being a complete technophobe I struggle to find ways to download the episodes to listen to on the go and I always find it easier to listen to stuff (like Rubin Report etc.) on Spotify!

Knockback sounds cool, I look forward to hearing it. I'm going to miss CLS Prime though. I hope it comes back. I understand that you're not able to do 4 shows. That would be rough.

Russ Loffland

I'm not a Patron of you, yet. However I do think I will anytime soon. I like the exclusive podcast weekly for instance :) If I can give some other feedback it would be that it's a shame the CLS is on hiatus. That show mostly made you and your channel unique and stand out from most other patreons and youtube channels who do podcasting. You are really good at making history fun and easy to learn and those were my favorite CLS Prime episodes (in comparission to the political ones). Now however, it feels like you are going back to what you said you didn't want to do when you started CLS almost a year ago. Which is becoming covering gaming related topics. On the CLS Fireside there is a lot of gaming personalities there and then there is the CLS Sidequest. With the CLS Knockback there will be even more. I personally don't mind, but you are becoming a pop-culture channel more and more, rapidly if I may say so. I thought that's what you wanted to get away from at Kinda Funny, but I won't pretend to know everything when it comes to that. I will however wish you best of luck and let you know when I become a patron of you! :) Many thanks for all your content all the way from Sweden who appreciates all the american-focused history and political topics! :)

Niklas

I am Etremely excited for this Colin I just love hearing about the older stuff from our generation!

Travis farmer

I am super excited to be getting even more Colin! I have not been able to listen to everything that comes out, but I hope to get back on it. The podcast format really helps! Love ya Colin.

Carnagewake

I like all of this I think. I'll miss the historical episodes of CLS Prime, it was fun to learn some new things. If we are being honest though, I found you through nerdy conversations and love nothing more than listening to you have those nerdy conversations, especially with someone you have a good rapport with. Looking forward to the new shows gracing my podcast app every week. Also, if I can recommend a guest for Fireside chats, it would be Pat the NES punk. He loves classic games, and seems to have a good level head on his shoulders. Best of luck Colin, and now Dagan!

Neely 4x4

I agree; I wanted to make the $1 tier make sense and give SOMETHING, and now I've figured out what that something is. As for other content with Dagan and I, we're already talking about it. But let's see if this works first, yeah?

Colin Moriarty

Dude, trust me, I wanted it to work too, and no one is sadder to see it put on the shelf than I am. That show was (and still is) my pride and joy. But, the audience isn't there. It's been in steady decline. It would be foolish of me from a business perspective to double-down on something that's not bringing in the clicks (or the revenue). I'm gonna figure out how to bring it back in the future. At least, that's my intention. When I figure it out, likely later this year, I will certainly let you all know.

Colin Moriarty

I'll miss it, too. I'm gonna do my best to bring it back in some regard in the future.

Colin Moriarty

I appreciate your enthusiasm, and hope to deliver the goods!

Colin Moriarty

I hear you. I'm working on it (mentally), and will figure out where we stand. I want to bring CLS back, and I want to bring it back bigger and better (although more seldom produced). We shall see!

Colin Moriarty

Sad to see CLS Prime on hiatus, but I like the reshuffle and think the Patreon needed it. Don't do business on Patreon, but it's my opinion that the $1 tier should always offer SOMETHING. Also, I don't know how open you'd be to it, but I'm sure in this day and age people would like to see you stream, even if it's just story-based games. Twitch with your patrons might be something to consider and it migtht be cool to see you and your brother gaming or board gaming on there. Tips also would be another revenue stream. Would be even better to see you stream with the cool people left at IGN that you have interviewed recently. Like Altano said, that kind of socializing would be good and collabs with them or EZA would be nice to watch :)

I'll stick around, but I am sorry to hear CLS Prime going the way of the news burst. I don't begrudge your reasoning, but perhaps I begrudge the broader audience for massing around the easy or popular topics. I suppose it's understandable, given your background and where you'd previously found success. I've enjoyed your hardboiled approach to the games industry (by treating it as an actual industry as opposed to a playtime factory) since you came to IGN, so I will continue to support you, but not without some agitation. I wanted CLS Prime to work. Political discourse is in the shitter these days, and CLS was a troll-free environment, and a wonderful place for a liberal-leaner like me to hear well-rendered, well-researched, and grounded arguments from a conservative perspective. I understand why you must dial it back, but in your continued experimentation, I hope it returns in some form, even if it's only once a month or in podcast form.

Timothy Monnig

I'm excited to hear the new podcast! I enjoy all of your content, and I'm sure I'll enjoy Knockback too. However I will be missing CLS prime during it's hiatus. I look forward to it's return! Just wanted to put my feedback in. Thank you for making interesting, and thought provoking content. Keep up the good work!

Colin, cheers for the content. I'm only a couple of years younger than you (albeit from across the Pacific Ocean) so a nostalgic podcast would resonate with me substantially. Lookin' forward to it! There's a lot to cover since and during the 80's/90's!!!

Leonard Jacobson

Totally understood, Matthew. I thank you for what support you did show, and I hope that you continue to enjoy the content!

Colin Moriarty

=D

Colin Moriarty

I hope you enjoy it when it goes out!

Colin Moriarty

Well first of all, thank you for your kindness and support for this last near-year. Unfortunately, the decision has been made, and while I appreciate your feedback, this is the direction we're gonna go in. That said, CLS isn't cancelled. Far from it. I want to bring it back, and I 100% intend to. It'll probably be better when it comes back, too. I hope you decide to stick around, but totally understand if you don't, and I thank you again for sticking with me.

Colin Moriarty

I like the idea of the new show, but I wish CLS would at least remain in some form. Even just One episode a month would scatch that historical itch.

This does sound fairly interesting, but I am afraid that I feel I must withdraw my financial support with the original CLS being suspended indefinitely. I thought that was truely something special and worth suporting, something that really needed to be out there. I will continue to view Side Quests and listen to some podcasts, but I don't feel I can be a patron while CLS proper is not being produced. Colin, I wish you the best and hope CLS is a continued success. Thanks for creating all the content that you have.

Matthew Cooper

👏🏻😉

BettyAnn Moriarty

Wow! What a pleasant surprise to be reading this in the middle of a dreary week! It sounds like you are evolving your content strategically, and I can’t wait to listen to the new podcast! I’m a Podcast App on iOS guy btw.

Ryan Blushke

I’ve been a patron since day one. I’ve never written a comment or tweet to you before today. Knockback is likely to to be extremely fun and I’d be shocked if I don’t love it. However, the death of CLS Prime is extraordinarily disappointing and I would rather it stay around.

Thank you so much!

Colin Moriarty

I totally understand if you want to bow out because of it, and I do thank you from the very bottom of my heart for being here for me over the last near-year. That said, I hope you stick around! <3

Colin Moriarty

I don't think you have to worry about that. You'll see!

Colin Moriarty

Thank you! I can't wait to deliver it.

Colin Moriarty

Thank you for your continued support (and patience!).

Colin Moriarty

I’ve been having nostalgia of thing from the past. Good to see you return to topics that made me follow you in the first place. Will actually support. :)

Jason Huanosta

Although I understand that numbers don’t lie, I am saddened by the hiatus of CLS prime. It is honestly the primary reason for my support. However, good luck with the new show!

Will Curry

The show sounds like a lot of fun, and I enjoyed the fireside chat with Dagan for what it was. My only fear is that you two will have the same point of view or opinion on the topics. On the podcast, Dagan came around to agree with you on even the things it seemed like he didn't. So my only input is to tell Dagan to Hold That Ground! Looking forward to the show!

Donald Difford

Wow. This sounds amazing. I was excited to hear what the new idea for a show was and as usual you've surpassed expectations. Can't wait for episode 1.

Josh in Tampa

Sounds dope man. I am glad you are finally embracing those of us who stuck with you through all the BS over the last year. You’re stance on no gaming content was always so depressing, you really are the only voice for us in gaming that is not extreme leftist.

Thank you! I hope you enjoy Episode 1 a week from tomorrow. <3

Colin Moriarty

I love the idea of this show! Can’t wait to listen. Like others have said, I’m sad to see CLS Prime go, I loved that it was so different from what everyone else does, but totally get your reasoning.

Marius Skarsem Pedersen

<3

Colin Moriarty

OMG. My (talented) sons working together! I. Can't. Wait! ❤️❤️ It's going to be awesome! Break a leg... (you know what I mean) xoxo

BettyAnn Moriarty

Thank you! I have some political guests lined up that I think you will like.

Colin Moriarty

I'll miss CLS prime. I think it was some great commentary and unlike a lot of outlets tried to remain fact base, while presenting your opinion on things. I do like you in podcast form though. I haven't missed a single episode of Fireside chats because they've been great conversations. So I expect to like this one as well. I do hope that politics/history continues to make appearances on Fireside as it has been.

Owen

It's hard to say; all I know is that viewership was in decline while the other two shows are growing. That's a significant piece of data that I'd be dumb to ignore. I mean, do we NEED another podcast like this? No. We don't NEED anything like this. I didn't NEED to get right back to work after Kinda Funny bought me out (for several years, at least), but I decided to, because it's what I WANT to do. Sometimes, WANT trumps NEED, especially in entertainment. And I'd say that that's okay! If it's not for you, that's totally fine. If it was up to me, CLS would have been a smash hit with history and politics and it would have grown and found a massive audience, but none of that happened. I tried. I did 62 episodes of the show. So I could either let CLS slowly wither, or I could try to give my audience what I think a majority of them want.

Colin Moriarty

LOL. Well, thank you for your support!

Colin Moriarty

I'm so glad to hear that. Thank you!

Colin Moriarty

Oh, you!

Colin Moriarty

I loved it, but the key word here is pride. Will I let my pride get in the way of a sustainable and growing business?

Colin Moriarty

That never made much sense to me, and I won't be doing that here. Thank you for your support!

Colin Moriarty

My intention is to bring it back, somehow and in some fashion, this fall. But I need to rethink what the show is all about and how to best deliver it. I understand some folks will be disappointed by this decision, but the fact is, its viewership is in decline, and there's little demand for it.

Colin Moriarty

Thank you so much! People asked for Side Quest, so I gave it to them. People asked for a conversational podcast, so I gave it to them. I feel like this is the next rational step.

Colin Moriarty

Fireside Chats will keep it alive, and the next episode of Side Quest I'm working on is decidedly political.

Colin Moriarty

Although I'm excited to see some new ideas come to fruition, this saddens me. CLS Prime was a unique show in the midst of the maelstrom of pop-culture echo. Do we really need another nostalgia-driven podcast based on pop-culture? I know the overall demand for CLS Prime is lower, but it was the passion that started this project. Why put it on hiatus? Was the audience for CLS Prime less committed to that content than other shows? I know I watched every episode. Just because it doesn't have the numbers doesn't necessarily mean the ship is sinking, does it? It might just be a smaller ship, but one that can consistently stay afloat, albeit with a smaller crew than some of the bigger cruiselines. Anyhoo, I hope the show can make a comeback in some form, as I always enjoyed CLS Prime's unique flavor. Still happy to support, it just feels like the CLS brand is getting a bit of a heart transplant.

Aaron

Sooooooo happy about this. I literally just rapped a made-up song about “ya boy Colin M” to my wife and she looked at me like I was an idiot.

Brett Medlock

This is dope! Lately been hit with nostalgia for the late 80's/90's big time. This is perfect for me.

walter pocasangre

a little bummed about CLS Prime, but it really wasn't the Prime-ary (aha!) content I was consuming from you. so it makes a lot of sense. the new podcasts sounds great though, looking forward to it.

Michal Dudic

The new show sounds awesome, Colin. Can't wait to check it out. I feel bad you're putting Prime to bed, though, as that seemed like your pride and joy.

Jason Kelley

I love this idea. To be honest I still support and enjoy KF as well, but I really respect you not having separate Patreon’s for each show like they do. I appreciate that you don’t nickel and dime us, yet still provide so much content. Things like this is the reason I’ve loved your input and content since Beyond and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

Alex Ball

KnockBack sounds like an interesting new podcast and I’m looking forward to hearing more of Dagan. Though I will say as someone who supported CLS from day 1 I’m disappointed CLS prime is going away. I understand that the topical political episodes can easily get unduly toxic due to our current climate for discourse. But I personally hope that CLS: Prime returns at least as a historical video series. Your episode on the moon base and the interview with your father are the two best pieces of content CLS has generated.

GentleFan

Sad to see CLS go, but I’m super excited to hear you’re bringing on another voice. I loved the historical videos, but I guess I’m part of the problem because I voted for you to drop one and start side quest. I guess the point I’m getting at is that I love hearing your opinion on most any topic and I hope whatever direction you go in, it works out for you and you’re happy. Keep it up man!

I know the new podcast will be as awesome as the other ones. Little said to see the original format will be gone for awhile. Hope you continue giving political/historical opinions in the other shows, since they were the best part of Kinda Funny show. Continue the great work as always.

I hear you. There's more demand for Fireside Chats and Side Quest, so it makes sense for me to go in that direction. Thank you!

Colin Moriarty

I love podcasting, so I think it's going to make for some really great content.

Colin Moriarty

There are already political episodes of Fireside Chats, and that will continue! Thank you for your support!

Colin Moriarty

I just watched the GI Joe episode of The Toys That Made Us a couple of weeks ago. Really loved it. As for Celeste, I think it's a lot of fun, but I don't see it as the be-all/end-all a lot of people are describing it as.

Colin Moriarty

I’m glad you’re pivoting towards what you feel excited about. Content made with enthusiasm is always the best route in my opinion. I will miss your history content for the time being, but I have to admit that the political videos were of the least value I got out of your content. It’s for lack of quality or even opposition to your perspective, it’s just being blasted by politics from morning till night by every conceivable angle. Keep up the great work Colin, the community stands with you!

Stefan Catinella

Awesome. Personally I much prefer your podcasts to your regular scripted CLS content. Not to say that it's not good content, just not being American or that into history & politics, the topics don't always interest me a great deal. Keep up the stellar work, man.

Joe Rowland

I hope that you could incorporate the history and politics of CLS prime into Fireside Chats if it’s no longer viable. I started listening to your content through gaming but have also loved listening to your perspective on almost everything. Keep up the good work Colin, I’ll stick around for everything that you produce!

Nick Shirt

Sad to see some of the History and Politics stuff be put on hiatus but I'm sure we'll see it come back later. I hope you guys discuss the new show on Netflix "The Toys that made us" if you guys go over GI Joes and other toys! Can't wait to hear the new content! Hope to hear your thoughts on Celeste soon!

Jorge Pal

I'm glad you're enthusiastic. I am too!

Colin Moriarty

Funny you should ask; I was trying to figure out what to do about this. My first idea was to make it the first topic when the show came back, but then I realized I could just try to get an Egyptologist from USC or UCLA on Fireside Chats, so I'm going for that. Standby. =)

Colin Moriarty

Really excited to see this new journey begin!! I think it’s gonna be great and as for CLS: Prime, I think it’s a good decision. Take a step away, and come back once that drive and passion comes back and then do a episode that can be longer and in more detail if that’s what you want. I’d sit through it, because I love history haha. I can’t wait for all of this man!! I’m super pumped and now have more to look forward to throughout the week!!

Advent

Noooooooooo!!! So does that mean my winning topic "The Fall of Ancient Egypt" is scrapped??

Tony Colton

Thank you. I hope so!

Colin Moriarty

I suspect you'll be pleased with the final result, but I will leave that up to you! If everything doesn't work out, that's okay. Life has been very kind to me. I'll try and move onto something else!

Colin Moriarty

It’s sad CLS (Prime) is going on hiatus but as always I’m looking forward to what you do next. I’m sure Knockback will be a huge success based on the FC episode you had with your brother already.

Thank you so much for your enthusiasm!

Colin Moriarty

I hope you enjoy it when it goes live! We begin recording tomorrow.

Colin Moriarty

You've kinda encapsulated why I made this choice. Listen: I knew I was going to disappoint some people, and probably lose some people. But you summed up why I'm doing this. CLS' viewership is in decline. Fireside Chats and Side Quest are growing. I'm confident KnockBack is gonna be in the same boat.

Colin Moriarty

How much does it cost? Nothing. I invite people I think are interesting. LOL.

Colin Moriarty

I honestly don't think I'll be able to resist going back to CLS when the time comes.

Colin Moriarty

Me too. =)

Colin Moriarty

Hope to have you back soon!

Colin Moriarty

Thank you, and if I'm being honest, I agree. I'm most proud of many of those episodes. But I'm not making shows for me, I'm making shows for an audience. CLS is shrinking. Fireside Chats and Side Quest are growing. Had to make a choice.

Colin Moriarty

I'm not sure it's an ebb and flow; I really think it's more of a "I like a lot of things" sort of situation. I'm a Renaissance Man. =D And I agree. I'm confident I'll return to CLS, and I'm confident it'll be a different show when I do.

Colin Moriarty

Hey, I'm not thrilled about it either, but CLS' audience is steadily declining. Do I go down with the ship, or do I try to make things better? I've chosen the latter.

Colin Moriarty

Thank you so much! I appreciate you.

Colin Moriarty

I'm really looking forward to being around him much more, and enjoying his company. That's for sure.

Colin Moriarty

I will certainly try!

Colin Moriarty

Thank you so much. Beyond!

Colin Moriarty

I'll be honest, I'm a little bummed CLS Prime is getting sidelined but I'll hold final judgement until I consume a few episodes of Knockback. I hope everything works out for the best.

Jamaal Bushara

That's what I think I'm gonna do, but I'm not gonna do ads at all unless it really makes sense. I have a meeting next week with someone to discuss it, after rebuffing pretty much ever advance over the last year. LOL.

Colin Moriarty

That's totally fair feedback. Indeed, I know I'm going to lose people because of this decision. But that's okay. I needed to make this choice for my sanity and for my business. CLS' viewership is shrinking. Fireside Chats' and Side Quest's are growing.

Colin Moriarty

Colin Moriarty

The numbers say you're not the only one who feels that way. Thank you! =) P.S. Political discussions galore will continue on Fireside Chats.

Colin Moriarty

I'm not sure I agree with your hypothetical problem, nor your solution. All shows will be easily findable here; likewise, they will exist in two separate podcast streams. It doesn't seem all that complicated from my perspective! As for YouTube, as the letter says, Fireside Chats will continue to be bundled and put on CLS' YouTube, and I'll do the same with KnockBack on Side Quest's channel, just so more people can find it and/or consume it in a way that's best for them.

Colin Moriarty

Great idea for a podcast! Although I love CLS Prime and am excited for its eventual return, I know everything you do will be gold and look forward to Knockback!!

Really enjoyed the back and forth between you and Dagan on the last jedi podcast. Sad to see you retire a show, but understand why you have too! You are only human. Can't wait to hear the first episode of Knockback

Brock Thomas Walsh

Sad so see CLS prime taking a break but I admit I've paid more attention to the side quest content and fireside chats recently. The new show sounds great as well after the star wars 'audition' episode of fireside chats a few weeks back. Good luck!

Ryan Ashlee

Very excited for the new show! Upset about CLS Prime, but it's understandable and respectable. How much does it cost to get on an episode of Fireside Chats?

Jon Barnett

Thanks for the reply Colin! Well I'll be sad to see it go but as others have mentioned I'd still love it if you had the occasional CLS when bigger events occur or when it just catches your fancy, but as you say if the viewership isn't there you have to revert to what you know works. Best of luck bud, and I've just re-subbed as I've got a new job again so here's to better times ahead!

Simon Winstanley

Yes, lets!

I think it's safe to assume you've not seen the end of CLS Prime. What I'd love for that show to become, ultimately, is something I write and record, something longer and deeper, and then something that I hand off to someone else to edit. But the show needs a break, and I need a break from doing it.

Colin Moriarty

This sounds fantastic. Honestly, your rapport with your brother really made his Fireside Chat episode stand out as one of the best. Sometimes your conversations with people that aren't as close to you end up sounding more like interviews and that detracts a bit from the conversational tone that you thrive in. I'm looking forward to this! (Hopefully after we move and settle in I'll be able to re-sub).

Scott Rabideau

No, Side Quest will continue to be weekly. I think I'll bring back CLS around the midterms, but I don't know yet. I don't really feel like there's heavy demand for that show to exist at all, frankly. At least, that's what the numbers tell me. I could be wrong. We will see. Politics will continue to be covered in Fireside Chats, as applicable.

Colin Moriarty

I'm glad you're excited! I think Dagan is gonna be super natural at this.

Colin Moriarty

Good question. Politics will continue to be a focus of Fireside Chats (I have a few political-slanted guests coming in the next couple of months, including Dave Rubin), and we'll continue to hash things out there. The fact is, CLS (the show) was a ton of fun to make, but it's also declining significantly in viewership. 20+ hours on one episode for 20,000 views and a declining Patreon isn't really doing the trick, you know? I could be stubborn and ride the ship to the bottom of the ocean, or I can make changes and see what happens. If there's real demand for CLS to come back soon, I'll see what I can do.

Colin Moriarty

I'm glad to hear that! I'm excited too!

Colin Moriarty

I'm very excited about the new podcast, but a little disappointed we won't get CLS Prime for a while. I definitely understand why it's being put on hiatus, though. In my opinion, Prime is some of the best content you've ever done.

Michael Cline Jr.

I love the entire first run of topics. It's gonna be a lot of fun.

Colin Moriarty

Thank you! I do too. =D

Colin Moriarty

Over the years it seems as if your interests and passions have ebbed and flowed so it only makes sense that this next step is happening. Give "Prime" time to breathe and inevitably you'll have new topics you want to discuss soon enough. It's way better to do something you're passionate about rather than just grinding out less than great material that you don't have the same drive towards currently.

Matt Styka

Bummed that CLS Prime is going dark, but love this idea. Nerd culture history. I'll take it. ☺

Britton Dowers

With ya all the way Colin. This sounds awesome. Really enjoyed the fireside chats episode with you bro so can't wait for this. Take care dude.

Jase Lingard

This sounds great and may just be the ticket for you. Having your brother around will do wonders for your wellbeing (something that worries me sometimes) I’m looking forward to looking back with you boys! Keep on trucking Colin.

Douglas Stanton

Great fucking job my dude. Keep it up!

Oakley Waldron

Sounds awesome. Dagan was really cool on the Star Wars episode you did together recently! Hope you are doing well :) BEYOND!

Broooooo, yes!!!! This is incredible, man. Also, Dagan rules, so more content with him is excellent. Can we get a Dagan's Last Stand shirt going? In regards to ads, I say go with what I've seen other people do, have an ad-free version for supporters, and an ad version for non-supporters. Heck, if cutting together additional feeds is an issue, I'll offer my services for free and do it.

Michael Ferrari

While I really like the Fireside and Games podcast, the historical element was my favourite part of CLS. I am very sad to see it go. I thought it was unique and a strength of the channel, as it was a little bit more difficult and challenging. I can understand you wanting a break from it but I hope it comes back at some point, like the game coverage, as its the one thing that sets the channel apart from all the others.

Peter Campbell

Hype

Ivan Hornett

I would recommend consolidating the location of these shows as best you can. It's a bit difficult to find where they are. It might be a good idea to post them on YouTube as just audio with the cls logo.

Dylan Manuszak

Yeahhhhh. Let's get nerdy

Cameron Paterson

really looking forward to this Colin! I hope that you are able to maintain an outlet for your passion for history and politics via cls prime as and when you feel a topic needs addressing. We love ya man!

Martin Bradford Gago

So one episode per week. No more history/politics episodes of CLS? Or are you alternating with Side Quest each week?

I'm loving the show pitch and the range of topics so far. As a graphic designer myself, I'm also really excited to hear more from Dagen!

Josh Squires

Once again the effort you put in to your content and relaying all that to Patrons and fans is amazing so well done on that! My only question though, as much as I love the new things you are doing as well as your return to podcasting and Games - doesn't this mean you've effectively stopped talking about Politics & History (aside from the occasional Fireside Chat perhaps) which is what CLS originally started as? Don't get me wrong - you should listen to your audience and what it is they demand and if this is the best way to run the business then say no more, but for my 2 cents I still love hearing your thoughts on Politics and History and would be sad to see that totally sidelines once more. As always best of luck though Colin, you do great work no matter what the topic.

Simon Winstanley

Yes!!!!! Love everything about this! I cannot wait for next week! Hell yeah! I’m excited

Christopher Hopkins

Great idea, can’t wait for the twilight zone episode.

Dude, I love this idea!
