Goodnight, sweet prince.

I think you're far more likely to see SOCOM 5 before you see the old games re-released.
And that PlayStation list of asks from the audience was (and is) a total fucking farce.

Going deep on Amalur might be a problem. I'd only want to do it if #38 himself would talk to me, and I know he wouldn't.
Anyway, glad you're digging the videos! Thanks for watching.

Good call on MAG being ahead of its time. I was thinking that when I was making the video.
I wonder if that IP will ever see the light of day again? Unlikely.

I feel like it would have made a great PSVR game.

I can't believe Sony have never released a PS2 Classic or HD version of Socom 2 for PS4. Socom 1 and 2 were major games in the origins of the eventual PSN community. A request for this was also second only to name changes in the most wanted thing on the official PS site for years. Do you think they ever would despite Zipper being long gone?

I’d love for you to tackle 989 simply because I don’t know too much about what happened or why, and I’m always down for a history lesson. Digging through the history on Midway could be cool, and I’ll always hope that you go deep on Kingdoms of Amalur some day. Great job on this one, Colin. An excellent topic, for sure, and you did it proud.

Was a huge fan of both SOCOM and MAG, in fact I loved MAG more. Then clan support, the massive wars fought on multiple fronts and coordination of dozens to complete and overtake objectives was fantastic. I would say it was sort of ahead of its time. I hope some day that both of those IPs get reincarnated down the road!

Some folks have been saying that, but I can't say I agree. I don't think Nintendo is approaching Sony at all. But that's my take.

I'm kinda shocked it hasn't made a comeback.

Thank you!
I could do the same with Xbox, but yeah. Will require a bit of a deep dive for me. Not that there's anything wrong with that!

989 is an interesting story... one to tell on its own, perhaps.

I love looking at the studios like this. I always liked when you and Greg did this on PS I Love You. I agree with you Sony has the best first party studios and exclusives but Nintendo is close imo and if they continue to close studios they may be overtaken.

"Where did they come from? Where did they go?", which was followed by a cut. Please tell me you had a 'Cotton Eye Joe' reference in there....

Halfway through and I was wondering “how the hell has he not mentioned Psygnosis!?!” (I am an OG Wipeout/Colony Wars/G Police fan... yeah G Police, it was good 😒). Then you reminded me they became Sony Liverpool and closed much later than I was thinking....
I apologize for doubting your PlayStation History knowledge... even saying that out loud about you, of all people, seems insane to me that I even thought it for a second 😔

This was awesome. a great history lesson into gaming thats still relevant, didn't feel like I was overly bogged down with meaningless history, told a clear compact story. Would love to see this for Xbox though understandable that is not your expertise and would take a more extensive research background

Thanks for reminding me of Zipper, Colin. Now I’m cranky.

Great job Colin! Agree with Joey 989 was the highlight of the vid. I always thought 989 was Bend because of SF and the sports were just a different arm. Typically my childish assumptions were wrong and you filled in the gaps. Thanks!

I love 989 studios... NCAA gamebreaker '98 was my favorite football franchise on PS1 and i almost died when i got the console Christmas morning.
