Side Quest, Episode 38: Mega Man X Legacy Collection Review

It's damn good.

Side Quest, Episode 38: Mega Man X Legacy Collection Review

Comments

X is definitely the least difficult. X3 is probably the hardest. Maybe X4.

Colin Moriarty

Out of the 4 on Legacy 1, which was the most difficult, least? I remember a lot of X from SNES, so it hasnt been too tough(I’m up to Sigma stage 2 after just one night), but this is easily the most familiar one to me out of the trilogy. Is it the easiest?

Anton Kaye

I should say, each stage has an “easy” spot to refill health etc. you can respawn enemies anywhere, but certain spots have enemies that just take one shot from the P shooter, so you can kill/respawn quickly. For example, the Bats are a good one to load up on health.

Anton Kaye

Yes, there are 3 filter option and 3 screen ratio options. You can play in original pixel mode. My tip(and I’m no where near as good as Colin), is don’t worry about taking damage, when you get hit, move forward. While you flash you go through enemies without knockback(ha!). Every stage has a spot where you can respawn enemies, shoot them for health, refill weapons/ e-tanks. The important part is getting to the Maverick and try to have full health/etank and weakness weapon. The real game starts with Sigma stage 1. The 8 Mavericks are training wheels.

Thank you! I have no plan to do a review for the second collection, no. By the time I got around to beating all four games, the review would be ancient. Thank you!

Colin Moriarty

Great review as always Colin. I was wondering will you be doing review of the Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2? I picked up both collections, but never played anything really past X4 on PS1 so i figured I would try the entire franchise. Just wondering if you were gonna check it out/do a review. Thanks again and keep up the great work!

Ray Tauriello

Thank you so much! I agree. Capcom really did a great job here.

Colin Moriarty

Can't wait to render my (and our!) verdict on Chasm. =)

Colin Moriarty

I don't recall, honestly.

Colin Moriarty

LOL.

Colin Moriarty

X is great. I always loved it, but I really walked away with a new and deeper respect for the franchise.

Colin Moriarty

I played through one, yeah. Not what I'm really looking for in Mega Man.

Colin Moriarty

Good luck to you!

Colin Moriarty

Mario All-Stars was awesome. Essentially the first collection on console.

Colin Moriarty

Pretty hard. Will be very, very hard for normal gamers who aren't obsessed with the franchise. MMLC2's Platinum is far harder.

Colin Moriarty

Indeed.

Colin Moriarty

Me too. =)

Colin Moriarty

Let us know what you think!

Colin Moriarty

I'm not sure I'm the appropriate judge.

Colin Moriarty

Great video, Colin. Although Mega Man was never my game style of choice as a kid and now as a 33-year-old man due to its difficulty, I’m glad to see that Capcom was faithful in this re-release.

Joey Rawlings

loving the reviews, and excited to see what you think of chasm next week as i have my eye on it

Pedro Escobar

I'm curious how you feel about this as well, Colin! They did make a Zero collection for the DS a few years back. Not too many bells and whistles like the legacy collection, but it's got them all together at least. This series made an attempt to continue the storyline from X in a convoluted way, and the gameplay felt like it was trying (key-word there) to be a spiritual successor to the series as well. Thoughts?

Coconut Wizard

Colin, question, does the X Collection come with that filter already on? Can you turn it off? What I mean is the graphical smoothing, clearly the pixels are blurred and brushed around to look way cleaner and less jaggy. Also, dude, great review. Listening to you talk about Mega Man over the years has made me want to get good at them so badly, but the fact of the matter is A.) I haven't given it a deep dive just yet, and B.) When I do play it, I suck! I can run through Castlevania, but something about Mega Man, I haven't made the connection just yet and I can't speak the language fluently. As always, Colin, great stuff. Thanks!

The moment BettyAnn Moriarty gets more info than she bargained for about her son... lol Great review Colin! X1 is in my top 10 of all time

Lucas Gremista

I feel like I can now admit to you that I was always a bigger fan of Mega Man X 😂 I played through Mega Man 1-3 on my friend Keith’s NES when I was a kid, but Mega Man X was the first one I owned and really took a dive into. The moment that I unlocked the hadoken fireball, was probably the first time I felt the feeling of unlocking a platinum trophy. Once you get the fireball, you’re done. You played the living hell out of Mega Man X at that point 😂

Marc Boggio

I've been waiting for this collection since they announced it. I look forward to playing through these games. I hope they make a Legacy Collection for the Megaman Zero games. Have you played through those Colin?

SLtheFMA

This is my favorite series of video games ever. I am so thrilled for an excuse to replay these wonderful games. Wish me luck on that Plat!

Brock Thomas Walsh

How about another edition of Super mario all stars. Get like super mario all stars 2d... and then a 3d one.

Owen

How hard was the plat?

Jason Pettet

Wrecking Sigma's shit with a Hadouken? Pure bliss....

Justin Matkowski

After looking through the trophies, I’m glad they dedicated ones to obtaining the hadoken and shoryuken.

Chris B

I bought the game , I’ve never played it before. It looks cool though.

Edwin Garcia

Colin, on a scale of 1 to 10, how hard is the platinum?
