Sacred Symbols, Episode 3: The Kinda-Sorta Uncharted Movie

Nathan Fillion, an actor beloved in nerd culture from his Firefly days, released a movie-quality Uncharted short film, and it has the Internet abuzz. So we chat a bit about it. But in reality, news is pretty light this week, so we rely on a ton of awesome listener inquiries to fill our 100+ minute run-time. Should Sony's studios have Nintendo-level clout? Will we ever get a sequel to The Order: 1886? Is games journalism failing? How can Sony make PSN better? Will we ever do Sacred Symbols Spoilercasts? The questions are many. Many more than this. So, thankfully, are our answers.

Sacred Symbols, Episode 3: The Kinda-Sorta Uncharted Movie

Comments

I wasn't particularly enamored with either Zelda or Mario, but I had more fun with Mario, too. Both great games. But both games I've played before.

Colin Moriarty

We do indeed live in the future. =)

Colin Moriarty

I have to say the latest Zelda was just a struggle for me to continue playing. I just felt like I was forcing myself to play it and then when Mario Odyssey came out I just stopped playing Zelda. Odyssey was just fun in my opinion and I found myself wanting to play more while Zelda it was me actually a forced play but as you said Colin obviously I am in the minority but to each his own I say. Thanks for the episode and I will agree with Chris on we need a new Diddy Kong Racing on Switch. I loved that game on N64.

Eric S

Great show, I believe the player base on fortnight ps4 has dropped. I’ve read a lot of people dropping the PS4 in favor of switch or Xbox because if cross play. Even hardcore PS fans played it on other systems . My kids , their cousins and friends all play on iOS, Xbox and Nintendo most of the time together. Over the summer my 2 boys and 2 Nephews were all playing together on Xbox, switch , Mac and iPhone in my house. That was a cool sight to see.

Hose A Contra Razz

Yeah, I completely understand. One of my biggest challenges is finding time for the games I want to play. My backlog grows every month and many great games are coming soon. This is why it's important to release a game correctly the first time. Although incrementally making games better has been working for Ubisoft. Ghost Recon Wildlands, Siege, and The Division have all gotten better with time as they release patches and better content.

Damian Castillo

Thank you, Tom!

Colin Moriarty

Eh. That game has come and gone for me. Too many other things to play. Though I hear it's great, and people are enjoying it, whichis awesome.

Colin Moriarty

Terrific episode - thanks and keep them coming.

Tom Wilkinson

Colin. I think you should check out the "Next" updated to No Man's Sky. They are not releasing the same game on XBOX that we got with Playstation. The new update actually delivers the game with all the original hype. PC and Playstation players get the "Next" update for free so this game needs another look.

Damian Castillo

Very true! I can see why some may have considered BoTW their game of the year, but certainly not one of the greatest games of all time.

Thank you! <3

Colin Moriarty

You're very welcome. Thank you for listening!

Colin Moriarty

Thank you! So, that's not in the cards, no. But funny story: I pitched Chris two shows. A PlayStation show, or a general gaming show. He chose PlayStation. I'm glad he did.

Colin Moriarty

Interesting. And bizarre!

Colin Moriarty

I don't get it, but opinions are opinions! What can you do.

Colin Moriarty

Thank you! I wasn't concerned at all.

Colin Moriarty

Great episode!

Cockthatslaps

Super excellent. Thank you so much guys!

Jorge Pal

Feels like Xbox is going to make it into the conversation no matter what since they are the main competitor and they are being very active.

Michal Dudic

Sacred Symbols is far and away my favorite show and that's saying something considering all your content on CLS is top notch. Was not aware of Chris until this show but you guys have great chemistry and I'm definitely impressed with his insights considering video games has not been his professional industry. With all that said, is there any possibility the show could ever transform from a 100% Playstation podcast into a PlayStation/ Xbox podcast. It seems like Chris knows a decent amount about the xbox platform and infrastructure. After perusing various posts within the community, I know I'm not the only xbox fan here. Just asking/suggesting...

Ron Chastain

I gotta say it again cause I’ve said it before Colin.. I really appreciate how active you are on here and how much you talk to all of us. I’ve never seen someone so engaged directly with his audience on patreon. You work hard man, and it shows. We all appreciate you sir!

Craig Carter

I looked into the "Divergence" in the Fallout Universe as compared to our own universe. There are many differences in History between the two universes, but the main one in regards to technological advancement is the lack of the priority to miniature technology, as well as that the transistor was not invented until the year 2032 in the Fallout universe, so the terminals you can hack are based on a combination of transistor and vacuum tubes. The more you know!!!

Kam Wallis

I am playing through Breath of the Wild right now. I really enjoy it as an exploring game. Virtually everything else is done better in other games, specifically Horizon. I do not get why people think it's one of the best games of all time. I thought there were many games last year that were better (Horizon, Persona 5). Anyways, great job again Colin. I am really enjoying the show, and it is something that was needed in the podcast space!

I like this idea!

Jeff Pollard

Chris and you have great on air chemistry. How concerned were you going into the first podcast?

Matt Matlock

Just hearing your tone of voice and absolute disgust when reading those game titles and blurbs was pure gold Colin, loved it.

Bryan Finck

Hey Craig. Thank you for your feedback!

Colin Moriarty

Loving the podcast so far.. I love Chris’s mannerisms and his delivery when he talks, and well Colin, you’re that man so nothing else needs to be said. I know you’re both busy and finding the footing of what the show is ultimately going to be, the only thing I’d like to see(hear?) is when you’re doing the news cycle or things of that nature that you and Chris go back on forth on each item. Like Chris reads or brings up an item, then to you, then chris and so on and so forth rather than just bouncing off of him each time. Anyways keep up the great work my friend, this podcast is becoming my de facto gaming podcast period at this point, cause honestly I think you do it best dude! Take care!

Craig Carter

You are probably right. Maybe it would only work every now and then, if you knew ahead of time it was going to be a slow news week. Even though it wouldn't be as fun for you, I for some reason like hearing you talk about games you don't like almost as much as the games you do.

Eric Clyde

Not a bad idea, but remember: We're both very busy. Wouldn't you rather us spend our time playing the good, great, and big games, plus the games we really want to play?

Colin Moriarty

Me too! We have no streaming plans. Sorry. =\

Colin Moriarty

This is true. I'm not looking for sympathy at all. I work constantly. Like, all the time. And that's my choice. My prerogative. It's not like I do it for free. I'm very well-compensated. But it really does grind my gears when someone insinuates I don't work enough, or could do more, or that I could easily solve X, Y, and Z. People say a lot of shit about me, and most of it I couldn't care less about. But that? Yeah.

Colin Moriarty

Thank you! I'm so pleased that you're enjoying our show.

Colin Moriarty

That sounds really cool. I'm definitely looking forward to it.

Colin Moriarty

I'd like to give it a go sometime. The original Knack, too, which I barely touched post-release.

Colin Moriarty

I'm not sure anyone is denying that it's technically simple. We were discussing (aptly so, I think) the whys.

Colin Moriarty

LOL. I don't know that I hold that sort of sway with Electronic Arts.

Colin Moriarty

That would be interesting, and fun. Although perhaps a bit unimmersive? How could Ellie totally control the actions of a dog?

Colin Moriarty

Great show. One thing I thought could make a funny weekly or maybe monthly segment, is having Colin and Chris choose a game for the other to play from the incredibly bloated PSN store offering. Each person can choose a game the other must play before the next show. Maybe commit at least one hour of playtime and give there reaction to it. Would think it would be hilarious to get a reaction to some of the games released on PSN each week. And maybe there might be a gem or two that is found doing this too?

Eric Clyde

Another great show , I like how Chris has been challenging your thoughts on Pacific issues and making you see things differently :-) would love to see a twitch feed or anything on the two of you playing a multiplayer game together and getting you out of your comfort zone ;-)

Matthew Perry

Regarding amount of work. I feel it goes hand in hand with several other industries as well where a handful of people from the outside say “it looks so easy” and they devalue the service you’re providing. But on the other hand you also have a handful of people that really value the amount of work you do because they know what kind of work it actually is.

Philip Andersen

here's a tip regarding RDR for Chris - the game is actually up-res'd on xbone to 1080p, and to 4K on one x. they also run at more stable framerate. great show btw, this is quickly becoming one of my favorite podcasts.

Michal Dudic

I actually can’t wait for Subnautica. As a console only gamer, I fell in love with this game watching Markiplier play it on Youtube. It’s about a human in future on a space mission who crashes on a planet that is almost nothing but water, safe for a small island or two. You follow a journey to find out what happened to the previous civilization while trying to survive the dangers of the ocean. From your original safety pod, to building underwater bases and vehicles, to seeing gigantic underwater monsters and trying to escape the planet, it looks completely awesome.

Alex Ball

Another great show - thanks both (Cx2?) Just want to chime in on Knack. Knack 2 is just a better game - by no means good but a definite step up. But my 4 year adores them both, as much as the Lego games, to the point he asks incessantly about Knack 3. So whilst grown up don't seem to like them, they seem ideal for parent-child gaming fun!

Michael Cook

Sony doesn't have to do anything regarding cross-play. In fact they are actively restricting it by holding fortnite accounts hostage to the PS4, which they had to go out of their way to do. Not only that, but about a year ago Epic accidentally activated Xbox/PS4 cross-play and Jeremy Dunham has said they could turn on Rocket League cross-play with essentially a push of a button. The only reason Sony has for doing this is because they don't have to since they are number 1 right now. It's the same thing Microsoft did in the 360 era with Defiance's devs wanting Cross-play with the PS3. My sources: Fortnite cross-play https://www.kotaku.com.au/2017/09/epic-accidentally-allows-xbox-and-ps4-cross-play-in-fortnite-disables-it/ Rocket league https://www.polygon.com/e3/2017/6/13/15795376/rocket-league-cross-platform-playstation-4 Defiance https://www.engadget.com/2012/05/31/defiance-could-link-up-an-xbox-360-with-a-ps3-but-cant/

Colin! Since you stated that you spoke to Capcom about the trophy situation in Mega Man, anyway you can get the word out on making another Dead Space?! 😃

Cesar Solis

Another awesome show Colin, you and Chris have fantastic chemistry and both obviously know your stuff. Its a pleasure to listen to it and I'm so excited you're back doing a full on video game podcast. I'm just now at the part about The Last of Us Part 2, and I think the NPC they are teasing is actually going to be a dog. Back in February, I think, Neil tweeted out a picture of him with a dog in a mocap suit, so that's what leads me to believe that is what they are talking about. I agree with you that it would be hard for a human NPC to live up to the dynamic that Joel and Ellie had together, so I'm hoping this is what it will be. Keep up the amazing work, I hope you are happy with what you are putting out there!

Bryan Finck

Thank you for your kind words, and feedback!

Colin Moriarty

He's doing great! I'm glad y'all are liking him.

Colin Moriarty

Tell me about it.

Colin Moriarty

That reference was great. Infest is an awesome album.

Josh Moore

Nice work Colin and Chris! You seem to be much more comfortable and the show obviously flows more easily as a result. I’m looking forward to seeing (hearing?) how you develop it further. Don’t be afraid to try new things and mess with the run - see where your imaginations take you! (Insert applause here.)

NJ

I'm starting to like Chris. Personally, I want your co-host to have the ability to create his own shots. Let's say if Colin is Lebron, I don't want Chris to be just a shooter waiting for a pass for a corner 3-pointer. I want him to be like Kyrie. He made a lot of good points on this episode. I'm liking it!

Jhazterine Tayag

Born with no soul, lack of control Cut from the mold of the anti-social lol

Erik Peterson

Wow if you're lazy i must be in stasis...

Erik Peterson

I'm glad to be here for you! Enjoy!

Colin Moriarty

Amen. Zelda was great, but I was shocked by how seemingly little experience so many players had with other open world RPGs.

Colin Moriarty

I like the whole SIFTD idea. And I think I was perfectly fair in regard to Shane. What do you think?

Colin Moriarty

You got it, Barry! Nice work on your maiden game.

Colin Moriarty

About to listen in my car as I run errands on my day off ☺ Having a PlayStation podcast to listen to with our boy Colin M. every Tuesday...the world is right again.

Danny L. Rutherford III

=D

Colin Moriarty

I'm gonna pick it up at some point. Not anytime soon.

Colin Moriarty

Yes, but it doesn't explain that one dude's microprocessor comment. Is that true?

Colin Moriarty

It sure is.

Colin Moriarty

See? I listen!

Colin Moriarty

I had never played a Zelda game before BoTW. So going into it, I had no expectations or feelings or nostalgia tied up with the game. Quite frankly, BoTW is a good game. But it’s no where near as good as people think it is. I’m with you Colin on this one, I have no idea what people are talking about in regards to how this game “revolutionizes” the open world genre. That’s plain silly. There are so many other open world games that have far better gameplay systems, far better narrative and story, and more interesting worlds to be immersed in. It’s a good game, but it’s not even close to being a masterpiece. Just my thoughts.

Zack E

Thank you so much! We're having a blast doing it.

Colin Moriarty

Enjoy!

Colin Moriarty

=)

Colin Moriarty

Another dope episode! You guys have got a great flow going already. Thanks for talking about my game Colin! Much love :)

Barry M. Johnson

"If you want to know what game not to purchase as the new year rolls on, consider the downloadable abomination known as Amy." - Colin hahahahahaha

Joey Finelli

I am a huge Metal Gear fan, it's my favorite franchise, and I gotta say, Survive isn't bad. It's a good, fun game to play for the heck of it and just listen to some podcasts and stuff.

Michael Ferrari

In Fallout lore after WW2 there was a bit of a split with reality. While our culture progressed with our technology after WW2, in fallout their weapons and technology progressed by themselves (with a heavy focus on nuclear technology) and since they were focused on technology they had crazy tech by the time the bombs dropped in 2077.

TheBufferPiece

WOOOOO!!! IT'S TIME!!!

Marcus Brown

Ooooh timestamps! Very helpful for after the first listen. Thank you sir!

Jason Bolla

Been loving the new podcast Colin, keep up the great work!

Mario Miranda

time to stop working!
