Patreon-Exclusive KnockBack (July, 2018): Ranking the TGIF Shows

For those of us who grew up in the '80s and '90s, TGIF was a rite of passage, something to look forward to in more analog days. TGIF, which stood for Thank God It's Funny, was a Friday night bloc of television on ABC that officially ran from 1989 through 2000, and some heavy hitters of the era -- from Full House and Step by Step to Boy Meets World and Family Matters -- all found fame within those two weekly hours. For this month's exclusive podcast, I brought my best friend Ramon Narvaez into the fold to take the six biggest TGIF shows of all-time, discuss each in depth, and then rank them, from best to worst. So waaaaaaakkkkeee up! It's go-time.

Thanks. =) Glad you enjoyed!

Colin Moriarty

Glad this one tickled your nostalgia. That's the idea!

Colin Moriarty

Thank you! Ramon's doing great on these, and we'll surely have him back soon.

Colin Moriarty

Alicia on Step by Step was a total smokeshow. Great drive down memory lane with this.

Kenny Gutzler

This episode was surprisingly super nostalgic for me. I didn't realize how much TGIF I watched as a kid! Memories of my mom ordering a pizza and watching TV in her bedroom so I could watch TGIF in the living room (dad was always working Friday nights). Thanks Colin & Ramon!

Ryan Hurley

I know even as a kid watching these shows the father character was always the best, and most interesting. Family Matters, Good Times, Fresh Prince of Bell Air to name a few. All where the father character is the best, the funniest, and the best written. It's interesting how that is. I just know Uncle Phil is the best (RIP). Great show, and Ramon has been great each time👌

Marcus Brown

It's actually something I'm working on.

Colin Moriarty

=D

Colin Moriarty

I haven't seen it, but I will look into it. =)

Colin Moriarty

Hell yeah.

Nader Aboulhosn

Also a podcast with Dagan and Ramon together is completely acceptable and the audience shall allow it

Craig Carter

First: Great podcast! It's always good to hear from Ramon when it's a topic that is out of Dagan's wheelhouse. Second: Colin, have you seen the Family Matters cast reunion? I think maybe it was an EW production. Anyway, it's on youtube, about an hour long. I really enjoyed it and it's chock full of behind the scenes information. <3

Jason Stafford

It made me feel old when Fresh Prince and Full House joined the Nick at Nite roster.

Colin Moriarty

Listen, and you will find out!

Colin Moriarty

=\

Colin Moriarty

Glad to hear it! I enjoy pulling Ramon in from the bullpen.

Colin Moriarty

No, it did end. Of course it ended. But it was not a series finale.

Colin Moriarty

I hope you enjoy!

Colin Moriarty

LOL.

Colin Moriarty

Exclusive podcast, last Friday of every month! =)

Colin Moriarty

Yes.

Colin Moriarty

Have fun!

Colin Moriarty

Great! I hope you two enjoy. =)

Up until last year Full House was still on Nick at Night every night (since replaced with Fresh Prince). My 15 year old sister-in-law used to watch it every night and loved it! Guess it still resonates with teens, no matter the decade.

Chad Lewis

@colin isn’t perfect strangers part of this? The dance of joy and they spun off into family matters?

Mike Tse

Dude the USM theme actually induced stress tears when i started watching again on Amazon prime. fucking PTSD

Erik Peterson

Always enjoy listening to these one offs with Ramon on these 90’s cornerstones from when we were young.

Craig Carter

Got to the Full House part - The show ended I think. Michelle falls off the horse. Gets amnesia. And then gets her memory back, but forgets she fell off the horse. -- Also the Step by Step women... god damn they were fine. Wasn't even fair. Growing up with the girls of TGIF was crazy. Like they're my age, and as I got older they obviously got older, and damn they picked some good ones.

Owen

Awesome! I love this topic! Even though I was raised through re-runs lol. Can't wait to hear it.

Marcus Brown

My dad also refused to watch TV except for one thing. Star Trek. That was our thing tv show wise. We watched TNG, DS9, and Voyager together while I was growing up. Literally the only tv show we ever watched together as he was very opposed to tv. He didn't care how much I watched, but if I mentioned watching something he would just tell me to read a book lol.

Owen

Awesome, will be listening to this shortly. Was thinking I was done with content for the week so this was a lovely surprise to see this morning.

Jason Bolla

Bonus Knockback!! Yes! (Proper use of exclamations or no?)

Blair Sutton

Great topic, can't wait to give this one a listen

Mario Miranda

Going to have to wait and listen to this with my wife. She LOVED TGIF and really enjoys the podcast when its topics she’s into. Her fav was the movies we were too young to watch lol.
