This was fun, my dude. I love SQ proper, so I don't ever want it to go away, but if it would soften your workload (and obviously if this performs well) maybe doing one of these a month would be a bit easier for you? This game looks great, and I intend to play it down the line. I have to finish some videos I'm working on and get passed the 12 hour mark I've been hovering at on Octopath first, but this is definitely on the list. Very cool way to get some content out while resting, Colin. Also, dude, I have gotten severe stingers in my neck three times, so I feel your pain. Its nothing to fuck with. Honestly, I’d personally rather see you do a Let’s Play like this for whatever game you’re playing at the moment every time in place of the traditional side quest episode. While I think they are fine pieces of content and well made, traditional Side Quest episodes are my least favorite pieces of CLS content. I think it’s simply that I believe you are best when you have a person to bounce your thoughts off of. With Side Quest, it mostly seems like you’re speaking to everybody and nobody at the same time. Though I know it scratches the itch for you to produce some carefully constructed thoughts with some research, and it’s not terrible to have a diverse portfolio of content. Obviously this is just my take. But yes I would love to see more Let’s Plays. I think you underestimate your ability to do good Let’s Plays, especially if it’s a game that you’ve spent a fair bit of time with. I still think some of the best KF videos are the Mega Man, Castlevania playthroughs you did.

I’m not much of a Let’s Play watcher, but this was good - it was more like an off the cuff review of Dead Cells. The measured length helped a lot- I find a lot of Let’s Plays/Twitch streams tend to be crazy long and involve a lot of interaction with the chat, making them kind of tedious to non-live viewers. I just threw this on while I was playing Dead Cells myself and it was cool hearing your thoughts. I’d watch more of these for sure.

I only played Demon's Souls for a few hours, and Dark Souls for perhaps 20, over two restarted sessions. Something like that. Bloodborne I played for fucking ever, and I learned to love it, though I didn't end up beating it. Dead Cells appeals to me as a Metroidvania-esque (but not really) game, first and foremost.

If you need a break and make a Let's Play instead of a fully researched, edited video, then, by all means, do so. However, your standard Side Quest work is fantastic, so I wouldn't want to see it go away as a whole; the thoughtfulness you put into your Side Quest commentary is unmatched. Also, I hope your back & neck feels better; my wife and I both comment on how we hurt ourselves sleeping since turning 40, so it looks like you're getting a jump on things. Down with procrastination!

occassional let's plays would be great but I agree with some of the points above that it's better when VO is recorded after the gameplay. that way, you get the pick the most interesting sections, and the VO can be a bit more of a review format. it also makes for good B-roll to off the cuff editorial, which you are great at.

This is great Colin! I usually dont watch let's plays, but for a "let's play / review" I really enjoyed since im interested in picking this game up. Tbh, the fact that the VO was lost and you had to comment later over the video only makes it better. Usually lets plays lack in substantial comment due to the player's extra attention on gameplay, or vice-versa.

I’m totally aware that I’m maybe 100% in the minority here, but I’m really not a fan of Let’s Plays. That sentiment actually extends to Twitch/Mixer as well, though I’m aware that’s not the focus here. Excluding the fact that watching someone else play a game completely negates the primary draw of the medium; I just don’t derive value from experiencing small slices of a game. It sort of feels like trying to form thoughts on a book after the first chapter, y’know? Frankly, I would way rather a writer of your calibre presented a video (as long or short as you feel it needs to be) with your concise thoughts on a game, topic or whatever you want to talk about. That said, who am I to argue with the market? If your audience wants this sort of content from you, that’s fine. My pledge and I will still be here for Fireside Chats, Knockback and Sacred Symbols. Great Let's Play. I wouldn't agree with the red only upgrade strategy. A lot of the later levels require more of the traps/Grenades/etc and later boss fights lean heavily into skills. The biggest reason to increase uniformly so you get more health.

I really like the Let’s Play idea. The only thing I would say is that it’s a bit more convenient when you upload videos on a service like YouTube or Twitch for video. Only reason for me really is because there isn’t a Patreon app for watching this on a TV via SmartTV/console/streaming usb. I know I could watch from my phone too from a web browser but the Patreon app isn’t letting me go full screen for video. Otherwise, I really enjoyed the video and don’t mind the occasional Let’s Play instead of traditional Side Quest. Keep up the great work.

I really liked the video and you put me on to an interesting game I didn't know about. I hope to see these more often. I would really like to see you play through the Mega Man X games. You did a full play of the games on the Mega Man Collection while at kinda fuuny and I want to see more of you playing those games.

This is a tough one. I want to watch Colin game but also want to hear the views. One recommendation is to twitch stream whenever these instances come up and upload the stream without all the added production. Or maybe doing a poll of which game should you do a let's play of and do a let's play once a month? Either way I look forward to watching this dead cells ones

I think this is perfectly solid supplementary Side Quest content. The occasional let’s play I think could be a fun part of each gaming show if you ever you wanted to do that. A hypothetical Sacred Symbols let’s play feature at the release of SpiderMan with Chris or the occasional knockback let’s play with Dagan would be fun content I think.
