KnockBack, Episode 31: Guilty Pleasure Movies

There are films we really love. Other flicks we totally hate. And a mass of movies in the middle that just kind of exist. Then, there are the so-called Guilty Pleasure Movies, films that, regardless of critical reception and box office draw, have us coming back for more... even if we sometimes try to keep our adoration of these films to ourselves. As requested by CLS Patrons, this episode of KnockBack is all about our secret (and perhaps shameful) cinematic loves. 10 of them in total. So let's make the case for some could-be gems, shall we?

KnockBack, Episode 31: Guilty Pleasure Movies

Comments

Thank you for listening!

Colin Moriarty

Nothing finer than the '80s.

Colin Moriarty

LOL.

Colin Moriarty

Seven Degrees of KnockBack.

Colin Moriarty

Excellent episode guys. This really brought my back. I’m so glad Dagan talked about Superbad. It really brought me back. I used to watch Superbad once a week in Iraq with my best friend ray. It helped pass the time and gave us something to look forward to. One of my favorite comedies ever

John Lynch

My number one would be Trancers (1985). A ridiculous B-movie that borrows Terminator and Blade Runner elements starring character actor Tim Thomerson and a 21 year-old Helen Hunt. Classic lines that I cannot believe were said with a straight face include “Cheer up! You just singed your first Trancer.” and the infamous, “Dry hair’s for squids.” 😂 Oh the ‘80s... ❤️

Luke Tucker

When I first heard the topic, two movies jumped to the forefront of my mind: 1) 2002's magnum opus "The New Guy" 2) 2003's classic coming of age tale "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" Oh man.

Christopher Toffolo

Not sure if it’s been posted above but I IMDb’d ‘Wizards’ and found out that David Proval aka Richie Aprile from the Sopranos is one of the voices! Mind blown.

Patrick Fivelson

I'll allow it.

Colin Moriarty

Word.

Colin Moriarty

Protect CLS at all costs. =)

Colin Moriarty

I’ll admit it....Footloose(1984) is my guilty pleasure. I can quote that movie by heart.

Blake Davis

Wizards by Ralph Bakshi https://itunes.apple.com/us/movie/wizards/id1046764733 In case anyone else feels compelled to watch it!

My girlfriend is going through all my expenditures as we need to cut down our monthly out goings , really hope she doesn't stumble upon my 5 pounds contribution to CLS as she will try to tell me that it's not a needed monthly payment ! I will defend it to the death though Colin as I believe it's something I need :-)

Matthew Perry

Dude, I remember Sidekicks. Awesome. =D

Colin Moriarty

I think my ultimate guilty pleasure is either the 3 Muskateers movie from the 90's with Charlie Sheen, Keifer Sutherland, Tim Curry, and Chris O' Donnel. I watched it like crazy well passed the age I was supposed to, and I loved it. Also, when I was a bit younger, I loved this movie called sidekicks with Jonathan Brandis (RIP) and Chuck Norris, which is basically just a Karate Kid Rip off. Great episode guys!

Dustin Henry

I forgot about that movie!

Colin Moriarty

Yeah. I of the old school "you're gonna catch shit for saying something nice about that" mentality.

Peter Campbell

Gotta give a shout out to Jennifer’s Body. The time and place of seeing it during college might have helped as well.

Kevin Sullivan

We had to define "guilty pleasure" for ourselves, and it's clear we defined it differently. I'm cool with that.

Colin Moriarty

Thanks, ma! Love you.

Colin Moriarty

I'll relay word. LOL.

Colin Moriarty

Enjoyed the episode. I would say most of them didn't sound too guilty pleasure-like save The Wizard (although Independence Day is utter trash). There was nothing you are gonna get mocked mercilessly for liking, such as people saying they like Speed Racer, Psycho 98, Exorcist 2, Ang Lee Hulk. I have publicly defended all four of these movies (and done the videos). Guilty pleasure movies are loathed movies that you stand up and defend, say come at me and I'll destroy you on this (important to have a sense of humour though). A fifth film in the I don't care list is a John Milius movie, that few have seen and even less have liked. It's called Farewell To The King, stars Nick Nolte, is set in world war 2, where an American deserter becomes king to an island tribe, which leads to tragedy, and despite being cut to hell by the producers, still has some amazing moments in it. So you have to end it John Milius-style with if you don't like it, I will fight you. For showmanship.

Peter Campbell

I had so much fun listening to this. I made my top 5 movie choices before I listened (which included patent trap and Rocky) but you two made me think of so many more. I appreciate nostalgia. Thank you. ❤️❤️

BettyAnn Moriarty

You can tell Dagan I actually have watched Cats Don't Dance many times growing up it was one of my favorite movies.

strawhatninja

I was actually horrified by it. I had low expectations, and they weren't even remotely met. Terrible movie.

Colin Moriarty

Resurgence was miserable. Absolutely miserable. It’s a bit frustrating, because I think those people out there who are more negative towards the original point to Resurgence in a sort of way that says “see look it’s garbage”.

Zack E

Weird! But awesome. =D

Colin Moriarty

Oddly enough, when Dagan looked at the time and said it’s 3:03AM, I glanced up at the clock on my microwave, and it read... 3:03AM. I’m with you guys in spirit!

Koray Savas

I’m 16 and watched You Got My Mail with my big sister when I was little, I love that movie. Also Hall and Oates and Tears for Fears are a couple of my all time favorite artists, I saw Hall and Oates in concert during the summer actually

Tyson Williams

I’ve never actually seen the original Parent Trap but I love the remake

Tyson Williams

It straddles that line, for me. =)

Colin Moriarty

<3 <3 <3

Colin Moriarty

Best news of the week to listen to these two amazing guys doing a Knock Back!!!

Independence Day is really great in my opinion

Tyson Williams

I don't think I've ever seen a Resident Evil movie, truth be told.

Colin Moriarty

Dude, Grandma's Boy had me dying the first time I saw it back in college.

Colin Moriarty

Aim small, miss small.

Colin Moriarty

Another great episode. I forgot to include my thoughts before you both recorded. Resident Evil series - I know they are not great films, but dammit are they fun. To the point, I have all six on Blu-ray

Chris B

Been waiting for this one! I missed getting my comments in for this episode. Some of mine are The Patriot (fucking love that movie), Mortal Kombat, Judge Dredd, (Yes, the Stallone one.) Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and the 90's Romeo and Juliet. I often find that our guilty pleasure movies are ones from our childhood, before we have a concept of (or care) if a movie is "bad." Think there's anything to that? Also, 'Grandma's Boy' is fucking hilarious Another great episode, guys!

Nate McKinney

I think the Patriot is authentically great as well

Tyson Williams

Thank you! <3

Colin Moriarty

Well worth the wait! Great episode!!!

Abe Moukhtar

Thank you for your kind words! I'm so glad you're enjoying our shows.

Colin Moriarty

Still never seen it.

Colin Moriarty

"What's in that pipe, hashish?!"

Colin Moriarty

I've never seen it. Dagan swears by it, though.

Colin Moriarty

I haven't seen that movie in forever.

Colin Moriarty

Movie is 23 years old! LOL.

Colin Moriarty

That's actually a really great pull.

Colin Moriarty

Ohhhhhhhh!

Colin Moriarty

Hahaha.

Colin Moriarty

Nice choices.

Colin Moriarty

LOL. Good choice.

Colin Moriarty

!!!

Colin Moriarty

Sorry for the delay. Just didn't want to flood feeds. =)

Colin Moriarty

I've been waiting for this! I love Mortal Kombat, and the Street Fighter films off top as well as literally all the ones you guys named! Great episode as always you, Dagan, Erin, and Gun are so great. Thank you.

Marcus Brown

Drumline....for some reason no matter how far in, or how much is left, if I see it on, I watch it.

Michael Candelaria

Excellent episode! I’m so glad you touched on Adam Sandler movies at the end, Mr. Deeds was the funniest movie for me as a kid. As I remember your love of John Milius, I’m curious if you’ve seen the documentary on him. It’s called “Milius” and it’s a great look into his career alongside guys like Lucas and Spielberg.

Jakeytar

I haven't thought of Cats Don't Dance for at least a decade. Used to watch it all the time when I was a kid

Tanner Brant

Mine would probably be The Rocketeer. I think the film is severely underrated and I love James Horner’s score.

Blair Sutton

Man you could have at least warned about spoilers for clueless. Thanks a lot

Will Ellis

Star Wars Prequels.

George

Would love to get the "OOHHHHHHHHHHHH" sound bite so I can update my text message noise.

Cory Hahn

Should be a requirement that Colin has 2 old fashioneds and an Irish coffee before every episode

Kyle Tisdel

Dumb and dumber and heavy metal for me

MayorGarbageMan

Drop dead fred

Pete Smeeton

Drunk Colin!!!!!!!! Woohoo!

Joey Finelli

This episode is gonna be great! Downloading and listening now. I was starting to have withdrawal because we had to wait an extra day lol!
