Sacred Symbols, Episode 14: Mega Meh

Comments

Well, that's fair enough.

Colin Moriarty

Love the drop. I look forward to it every week. The haters love ice in their drinks.

bk200jj

Hey Cameron, thank you for your feedback! The show is released on Patreon early because the people here are actually paying for the production of the show and the sustenance of its long term health, like you noted. If you don't want to recommend it to others, that's okay! More than 50,000 people listen to each episode on free feeds and YouTube days (and often weeks) after the episodes go live here. So, all is well. Whether you support me on Patreon or not, I appreciate you!

Colin Moriarty

Hey man, big fan of your stuff. I've been reading your stuff since the IGN days, and I've always find your commentary to be insightful and interesting (even if I don't always agree with you). You asked for feedback so I wanted to pitch a couple of things: - I know people like long podcasts, but honestly I don't get it. An hour and half to two hours already seems like a lot. I think capping off at two hours is good. - I don't ind the idea of calling out the new game releases, but I think the segment goes on for too long. Maybe just read out the full descriptions for the interesting ones? But still read out the titles of all the games. - I don't donate on Patreon, because at the moment I'm a student working full time. I just can't do the donations right now, but I plan to in the future because I definitely want to support your stuff. You release the podcast three days later, and I don't understand why because it's a news-based show and some of the stuff gets outdated before it gets released. I get why you do it, to encourage people to donate, but it makes it hard to recommend the show to others.

Cameron James

Exactly.

At this point I only do! Before sacred symbols launched I was forced to explore what's out there. Couldn't find one I came close to enjoying as much as the now 3 you've been on. Your format over the years has been and is perfect.

Greg Horsman

That's why you should only listen to our PlayStation podcast. =D

Colin Moriarty

Use the question thread! Maybe we can include it in the next episode.

Colin Moriarty

There's something vaguely dirty about the word drip.

Colin Moriarty

Noted!

Colin Moriarty

*takes notes*

Colin Moriarty

I love the drop. When I listen to other playstation podcasts I am always surprised that they don't read them.

Greg Horsman

Hey colin wanted to know your thoughts on 2 things. I personally dont believe cross play is the future. For free to play games like Battle Royale sure, but I do not see AAA 3rd party games will have purchases be playable across all platforms, but I was wondering if you see this move by Sony as further proof that they have there finger on the pulse of gaming? They initially said no and then tested the temperature of the reaction and wound up saying yes which was met with largely positive headlines. Like a good politician, they controlled the narrative. And this post was so long that I have forgotten the 2nd question.

Brett Carlson

Why don’t you guys call the drop “the drip” and read six or seven games at a time throughout the podcast. It gets them all out there but in short controlled bursts.

Keep the drop!

Cooly-Z

I hope the drop stays. I am pumped for Trails of Cold Steel 1 and 2 on PS4. I played the first one on PS Now, I started the second one and while playing it I became too annoyed with the streaming troubles I had and cancelled my subscription.

Roman Caraman

I think I'm starting to get the message. =)

Colin Moriarty

=\

Colin Moriarty

The drop is amazing. Please keep it as is. Listening to you guys crack up as you get through some of the most ridiculous games I've ever heard is legit a highlight.

Addiholic

If the drop dies so help me god colin

Chad Lewis

I haven't played a Star Ocean game in forever, so I'm not the guy to ask, unfortunately.

Colin Moriarty

Loved the show as always guy. Colin I’ve got a question I’ve been wondering and wasnt sure where to ask since I’m not on Twitter. Have you played the latest star ocean, or the PS3 star ocean? Looking for a new JRPG to play

John Lynch

You've officially tempted me.

Colin Moriarty

I see!

Colin Moriarty

I wonder if I say it enough, if it'll actually come to bear.

Colin Moriarty

Well, fair enough.

Colin Moriarty

Thank you for your feedback! (That Astro VR game is supposed to be very good, indeed.)

Colin Moriarty

Thank you so much. =)

Colin Moriarty

Noted, thank you!

Colin Moriarty

It IS tradition, isn't it?

Colin Moriarty

I wonder if they'll ultimately revisit it for a third time. I know that the second one was very well received, critically.

Colin Moriarty

We'll see. =D

Colin Moriarty

True enough. Thanks for your feedback!

Colin Moriarty

It's very good. Very atmospheric.

Colin Moriarty

I personally think 90-120 minutes is the sweet spot.

Colin Moriarty

You seem to be in the minority, which surprises me. I thought more people were... let's say... aghast.

Colin Moriarty

This sounds vaguely familiar, but I gotta look into it.

Colin Moriarty

I always thought emulators were legal, but ROMs were illegal.

Colin Moriarty

Oh dear.

Colin Moriarty

Okay. =D

Colin Moriarty

One of the great bands of all-time! Thanks for listening.

Colin Moriarty

I love your dad, Mario.

Colin Moriarty

It's incredibly obtuse, but does enough to keep me going. I like it. I'm using a spoilerless 112% guide to make sure I don't miss anything.

Colin Moriarty

I know, it's nuts.

Colin Moriarty

Not everyone has our taste, you see.

Colin Moriarty

It's science.

Colin Moriarty

Great episode guys! I say do all of the drop, sometimes it’s the only way I’ll hear about some of these games. Also, you mentioned honey on pizza crust. Next time you get a chick fil a chicken biscuit put some honey on that. I never knew they could get any better!

Neely 4x4

YOU CAN'T STOP THE DROP!!!

There’s No I in LLC

Colin: "I gotta stop smoking so much weed"

Mitch G

My wife surprised me with Dragon Quest XI on lunch day. This household has done it's contribution to society.

Another great episode :-) really want to give that astrobot rescue mission vr game a try as have read some reviews that its close to a mario or lucky tales game and with a vr spin on it sounds like it could be right up my alley :-) my girlfriend is off to Spain at the end of the month and then back in January so trying to think off all the games to play to keep me occupied till she gets back! P.s my vote is to keep the drop and go as long as you feel nessesary , when you have the content listed underneath each episode of sacred symbols it gives everyone the option to skip what they don't want to listen too and you have the best of both worlds

Matthew Perry

the chemistry between you two gets better with each episode, it's a joy to listen to. I'm really happy that you do this podcast.

Michal Dudic

As someone who enjoys the drop quite a bit, this seems like a good compromise.

Dylan

I personally don't care for the drop (that's the name of the "new games" section, yes?) but clearly a lot of people do. Maybe you could move it to the final segment, so that those of us who don't like it can skip it without missing the viewer comments/questions?

Finn

I also vote to keep doing the drop. We all have different gaming tastes and opinions and I know on your old show PS I love you. You guys read a game and I had no idea it even existed and bought it instantly.

strawhatninja

I vote to keep the reading of The Drop. It's tradition, it's fun, and sometimes it reminds me that a game I was interested in is being released. Some of the great comedy between you two also spawns from this segment. We can't lose that opportunity!

Jason Stafford

The original concept for Watch Dogs was the modern day of Assassins Creed. It was developed by the AC dev team as well. Tho, during the development they changed it into its own game. There’s been Easter eggs here and there in that show that the games has ties to each other. But man, watch dogs was such a disappointment, I felt they didn’t know what to do with it.

Philip Andersen

Regarding Destiny 2 on PS+, it was also on the Humble Monthly games subscription last month (cheaper than PS+!) so thinking they may be desperate to get the playerbase up? Oh and I like the drop but maybe when you have 20+ games you can be selective with the descriptions? Get the names out there without spending 30minutes on it :)

Martin

I love the Drop and really hope it continues. I totally understand if people don't like it but podcast apps have a lovely feature to jump ahead 30 seconds at a time. This show also has excellent timestamps, thank you for that, so I think both are great solutions for those folks who don't wish to listen to the segment. Appreciate you listening to feedback on this!

Steven Oslund

I don’t think Hollow Knight is revolutionary but I love it, the aesthetic, the combat, the exploration. I love it a lot, I think it really has executed a Metroidvania’s sense of exploration better than most other metroidvanias I’ve played and it doesn’t have those crazy moments that you find in Metroid where you have to do a random thing to a specific tile that’s the same as every other tile.

Tyson Williams

According to the Rachet and Clank Wiki Rachet is 5 foot exactly, but couldn’t find Clank’s height. I love the drop, it’s quite amusing to me hearing you guys comment on the descriptions and stuff. 2 hours sounds good to me, even if I would listen to more than 2 hours, 2 hours is perfect in most weeks.

Tyson Williams

"Konami putting out new Castlevanias is not a redemption arc." Haha fair enough, Chris. Just wanted to get an outside opinion. To add to a few comments I've read, I'm in the camp of, I could do without the new game reads. Obviously, it's your show, you do what you want and I'll support you, but I feel like a title and a half-assed description by the publisher is not enough to sell me a game. I play new games based off of the input you guys have to offer and whether or not you recommend them.

Cletus, the angry pro-life fetus

I believe The Guy Game was actually pulled from store shelves due to one of the girls featured in it being underage.

Michael Miller

PS3 emulators have been coming along really well actually, I don't know where Chris got the idea that it was going bad. OG Xbox and 360 emulation is going way slower and Microsoft managed to make that work on their console on a weaker system. Don't underestimate the fact that MS and Sony have the rights to their own source code. If PC emulators could use the source code, the emulators would come along way faster. The only reason they don't is because it's illegal.

Guy Game is way worse because it had a topless 17 year old girl in it.

Keep listing the games. It's hilarious! 😁

I enjoyed the dredg reference, Colin. I live in Australia, and the only people I've ever heard talk about dredg are the people I've put onto them. Thanks for another great episode, guys.

I personally love when you guys read the game drops.

Ryan Lemieux

Curious what you'll think about Hollow Knight long term. I was enjoying it a lot in the beginning, but found it got more frustrating than fun and challenging later on - mostly as a result of the checkpoints and annoying enemies blocking me from getting back to my corpse. Can't wait for the Castlevania collection. Playing that over RDD2 lol

hugplx

This Randy Pitchford story is CRAZY! There's a guy that can't seem to catch a break.

Korey Burns

First off I also feel you guys should go as long as necessary as well as continue the drop. Like you guys I too loathe Fortnite and have taste. Great show as always guys! Thanks for everything.

Marcus Brown

You brought up the question of kratos and clank with the hand job and blow job 😂😂😂 holy shit, that made my day.

Will Hahn

We have usually been calling out the game or games we'd recommend, no?

Colin Moriarty

I still like you guys going through the drop. My only real suggestion would perhaps be to do some kind of "pick of the week" or something of the sort. Maybe what you two are most likely to check out, or what you would recommend to the audience. It'd add some practical value to the segment beyond entertainment.

David Graham

Roger that.

Colin Moriarty

Dude, that's wild that it happened to you when deployed. Scary stuff.

Colin Moriarty

I don't find it too hard, but it's probably because I'm not a gigantic bitch. (Still one of my favorite, totally arbitrary insults. =D)

Colin Moriarty

I'm of the same mind.

Colin Moriarty

I like the drop. It’s tradition, and I like knowing what’s happening on the storefront, regardless if much of it is shovel ware or asset flips.

John Quinn

I haven’t had sleep paralysis in a while so I thought I’d share this. The first time this happened to me was in Iraq in 2008. I had never heard of it prior to this, so I was pretty freaked out when I awoke to the Dead girl from the Ring sitting on my chest, choking me, trying to get in my mouth. This has happened a handful of times since. The most recently she decided to rise up through my mattress in between me and my wife

John Lynch

Hollow Knight is “not very hard”, I think this opinion may change.

Cole Minder

I'd keep the game list - I love the little jabs here and there, especially today's preorder comment toward Chris. Just a nice place for some silly fun.

Jason Bolla

Thank you for confirming all that I've said.

Colin Moriarty

Roger that. Makes sense. RIP Shatter.

Colin Moriarty

LOL. I've never played it.

Colin Moriarty

You got it. =)

Colin Moriarty

Roger that, roger that.

Colin Moriarty

You fool!

Colin Moriarty

Did they? I don't think I even knew that.

Colin Moriarty

Me too. =D Thanks for your feedback.

Colin Moriarty

Roger that!

Colin Moriarty

Yeah, that's a legitimate concern, that PC gamers in twitch-style games will have a huge advantage. It's worth figuring out how that'd work.

Colin Moriarty

I work at Safeway and I can vouch that honey with pizza is a thing.. noticed today they had a Italian sausage and honey pie. Idk why I’m telling you but I just thought I’d let you know. Good day Colin.

Craig Carter

You shouldn't have pointed that out. That makes me feel bad. I hate people not getting their questions read. I'm putting you on hold, Galos!

Colin Moriarty

Noted. Thank you.

Colin Moriarty

MTGA.

Colin Moriarty

Well, his point is that the betas really aren't stress tests at all, and he's right. Most "betas" these days are absolutely glorified demos.

Colin Moriarty

=D

Colin Moriarty

=)

Colin Moriarty

My parents almost named me that, which is weird because I was born four years before Mega Man launched.

Colin Moriarty

He's resigned to his fate.

Colin Moriarty

I had asked about this over the weekend, (cause Todd Howard directly blamed Sony) but deleted it after Pete Hines clarified this a bit. Anyway, Hines tweeted out they are too close to the release of 76 to include cross play. I guess Sony jumped on board too late for it to be implemented at launch Also, it’s been a minute since we’ve heard a Shatter reference from ya

Richard Duflo

Oddly enough I still have my copy of the guy game on original Xbox. I was a freshman in college when that game came out and it was ridiculous, i remember that GameStop wouldn't take it in trade in, so it's just sat in a box. It did have some fun mini games and at least allowed you to play presidents and assholes in a game to drink to

Brian Borlaug

I’m just 2:30 into the podcast and thank you for replying to the input on the runtime.

Kyle Conaway

I love the podcast but the game announcements are becoming increasingly cumbersome to listen to. I respect the concerns around due diligence but I’m not sure I really think of you guys as journalists per se. I’ll keep listening either way. Thanks for all the great content!

Ryan B.

First time reading timestamps before listening and felt bad. It was like reading a spoiler review of a movie before seeing it. Wont do that again.

john spatta

In regards to crossplay, i'm glad sony bent the knee as well. They had crossplay on PS2 with Final Fantasy 11 lol. Man, i miss that game.

Kenneth Oms

The drop is a tradition. I love the reactions as we all discover what nonsense is headed our way. And it should be noted, Chris’ “game releases” voice is a delight, I’m glad he’s joined in on the reading.

Jayce Tamulevich

Gotta be honest, I'm part of the camp that really could do without the reading of the game titles. Gets super long in the tooth even when there's not an especially large amount of games. I usually just skip past it. Otherwise, loving this show. Keep up the good work.

Bogey Zero

In regards to crossplay, I'm incredibly skeptical about the impact this might have on the multiplayer experience for FPS considering console players will be playing against PC users and in that genre there is a clear advantage of mouse and keyboard over a controller. I've always enjoyed the online FPS experience knowing that the playing field was 'level' and that everyone was using the same equipment and now I'm quite concerned that my ability to enjoy these games might be greatly diminished. Am I missing something or is a larger player pool that much more important than someone handing me my lunch as I try to out gun them with an analog stick?

Cory Hahn

I feel like I’m on a real role with questions making it 4 out of the last 5 weeks! House of Cards crossed my mind as well, but that IP is pretty dead... or could you revive it with a game without Kevin Spacey?

James Galos

I felt you guys spend a perfect amount of time on the games. If people have an issue with the games, maybe just change the placement and put it at the end of the podcast. for the people who don’t wanna listen idk just spitballing I personally love it regardless

jalen kelly

Thank you guys for making my Tuesday a little more bearable

David Elmore

Have to disagree with Chris about the paying for a demo - Betas aren't demos. They're stress tests, and while I like open betas if you're giving your fans an extra thing for preordering where you're the first ones to play and give feedback on the game, I don't see a problem with that. I imagine if they didn't have enough preorders they would do an open beta.

Owen

Winston Churchill was embarrassed in WW1 and boldly led the charge in WW2 to cement his name in history haha

James Galos

Think I'm the only person that defended Sony on not having crossplay. I'm dying on that hill.

Owen

Best part of the week.

Lockmort

Perfect title

Tyson Williams

Colin Mega Man Moriarty ^^

Saulius Vekteris

Ugh, roaches. Gotta love LA. Sorry you’re dealing with that, Chris!
