After hearing Sony financials saying they went down 14% I think the idea of doing the blowout for PS Plus PS3 and PS Vita massive release would have been great. It would get some good will with gamers and also introduce people from the Xbox 360 to experience great PS3 games that they might have missed. As my basketball coach in HS would say all because you are winning does not mean you stop playing hard. You keep playing hard to bury the competition.

Hah, Imagine Dragons. One thing you have definitely heard from them is the Radioactive song. It was the major song that Sony used when introducing the PS4. Sony has used at least one of their other songs for Playstation advertisements as well.

I know I have a bit of benefit from hindsight here, the game having been out for several days. That said, I think there's a lot that distinguishes Apex Legends from others in the genre (namely a class system), and also there's a lot that ties it to Titanfall. Lastly, I think just releasing the game works because they don't have to fight the criticisms that would have surely ensued if they said "we cancelled Titanfall 3 for a battle royale game" 6 months before launch.

I'm a patent attorney, and I took a look at that Japanese Sony patent application (not a trademark) that just published. Turns out there's a US application, from which the Japanese patent application is based, that published back in 2017: <a href="https://patents.google.com/patent/US20170212774A1." rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://patents.google.com/patent/US20170212774A1.</a> It hasn't been examined by the US Patent Office yet, so we don't know what might get protected if it ever issues. They seem to be going for broad protection, and I'm curious to see what the Patent Office finds.

New Patron, loooong time listener. I wanted to stop by and just say I love the work you are doing and it just keeps getting better. On that note I think it’s wild how much Apex Legends blew up, and honestly how fun it is, I’m not a big fan of BRs at all and this one is pretty addicting, excited to see if it can actually compete with Fortnite, I doubt it will be able to “take down” Fortnite but I think it will definitely give it a run for its money.

I'm surprised (to a degree) as well, though I don't think success is in its quick numbers, but how it burns. If 10 million people (or anywhere close to that) are playing in a month or two, I'll be impressed, and then maybe we can talk about a game that can really start to chip away at the likes of Fortnite.

I don't know that I said Apex Legends itself would fail. But again, I need to listen to my specific verbiage. That said, I'm glad you (and many others) are digging it! But I also think its numbers after a month or two are gonna be way more important.

I’ll have to disagree with you Colin on your “apex theory”. I’m a gamer that has never really got into multiplayer games before , but yet when my friend asked me to play Apex Legends; I loved it. I liked that they took time to put story into each character and made each character stand out to some degree. I enjoyed the fact that every character has unique perks and felt more like Overwatch and Chris btw there is a character that uses a grapple hook. Love the content and thanks for making Tuesday’s great again.

Pretty smart of Respawn to launch with zero marketing hype and thus sidestepping the EA hate mob/backlash. 10m players in 72 hours is amazing happy for them after being shafted with the launch of TF2.

I for one am really interested in hearing about what's going to happen with all of our ps+ games moving forward for PS3 and Vita. I was planning on eventually installing the biggest possible hard drive in my PS3 and downloading all the ps plus games I wanted.. might have to do that sooner than I thought!

Totally agree with you guys on a Silent Hill 2 Remake. Took the idea right out of my mind. I’m so glad Chris mentioned it. A fresh coat of paint would be amazing and horrifying. That game series is one of the only ones that can freak the shit out of me. Shame that Konami owns the IP. I hope you’re wrong about it never happening, Colin. I would love to see it (and shit my pants playing it)!

Hey Colin, I’ve played Apex Legends for the last two days and I gotta say that I’m loving it. I used to be of the kind that all BR’s were not for me, and that a new one will not bring in a new crowd. The abilities from Overwatch, the loose and responsiveness that has lacked from CoD Blackout, a sliding mechanic that is super fun, a great variety of weapons from the Titanfall arsenal, and a very well made map made me convert. I just wanted to show that this game at least converted me, and a handful of my friends who would have otherwise never gotten into a Battle Royale

The numbers are great, but it's really how many people stick around that will matter, especially one The Division 2 and other games start dropping. Also, what's their conversion rate on microtransactions? Are they making money?

Doom counter tick --- I think with BR just like any genre the cream rises to the top. So far it's been Fortnite and PUBG. H1Z1 has slowly faded into almost nothingness. Radical Heights crashed and burned. etc etc. I think though if companies keep trying and they make a good one, that it will rise. It's early for Apex Legends, but so far it's had a better start than several others who have tried. Why? Because it's quality.

Apex Legends is a fantastic game Colin. One of the smoothest launches for this type of game I may have ever seen. Its Titanfall 2 fused with Overwatch. Fortnite may have the death grip on children and celebrities (the bulk of its audience) but Apex Legends is a legit competitor in this genre in terms of actual competitive gameplay. Unique ideas from Respawn which should only make EVERYBODY more excited to see this Jedi Fallen Order game. Respawn is a very good studio who have been mismanaged by EA. Titanfall could have been a bigger franchise then Battlefield. This is a good sign.

110% agree. I have been on this soap box since the no E3 announcement. I dont see all the worry for playstation as a brand at all. The PS3 launch debacle was a misreading of market trends which was later course corrected midway through the console cycle, and then that philosophy carried over to the affordable and better presented PS4. This trend has only gotten stronger throughout PS4 lifespan. Look at how gamer friendly Sony is with there title offerings. You get by far the most bang for your buck. If Playstation was somehow flipping their philosophy, why then would they let a games like DREAMS gestate for years and never waver support for Media Molecule? Now look at the rave previews the BETA is getting. PS5 is going to be priced where the PS4 was price at launch, it will be powerful, it will have backwards compatibility all the way back to the PS3, and some type of "Games Pass" service for PS2 and PS1 games. Have No Fear.

I definitely get what Colin is saying about Sony's silence and Microsoft's innovation and risk taking born from survival and maybe even desperation, but I think that while Sony can be a bit more risk-adverse than Microsoft, they're also far more wily than he's giving Sony credit for. Since the release of the PS1 Sony has won 3 out of 4 console generations, which is a ridiculously huge accomplishment when you think about it, especially when you consider who they started off against. There's definitely some hope for the PS5, we just don't know enough yet to say either way.

For what it is worth - I have two PS Cameras. One I bought with the launch of the PS4 and the one that was included with the launch PSVR bundle. One never used - can mail over if he needs!

Scooby Doo 2010's onward has actually been pretty cool. There's a pretty good 52 episode series that ran at the beginning of the decade and theres a a ton of crossover specials and movies with the likes of Kiss, John Cena, Batman and CW's Supernatural.

I played Apex Legends. I hate Battle Royale games and this game is exceptional. Also Vince Zampella and EA both confirmed that more titanfall is coming this year. Also they confirmed the reason why they just stealth released it is because of it being F2p, having loot boxes. They said they wanted people to just download and play and avoid the negative publicity on it

There's a lot to learn with these Battle Royal games. Situational stuff you (maybe just me) need to learn from trial and error. I'm still trying to get my first win in COD Blackout. Even with Apex being free to play - I don't have the time to learn how to win on a new map with new characters/abilities. Good luck to them but I doubt I even download it.

On that blog post about the PS Plus changes A user asked about clarification about if you are able to download games from your library. The author of article responded YES: You are able to access any game you have in your library. You DONT need your games literally installed to access it. It’s a ridiculously worded paragraph in a fairly important blog post.
