Spot on about the bosses in this game...was taken a back at first to how tough the bosses were...reminded of me of the NES/SNES games from back in the day where it took some time to REALLY figure out boss patterns. Just dont really have that now a days and it was a breath of fresh air. Played it just on the default difficulty but got a sense of accomplishment after beating each boss that I hadnt had from a video game in years.

Ah yes, I understand that for sure. I think it's cool to give players several layers of depth that they can explore at their leisure. It's something we try to do in small ways in our own games!

I suppose, but I really don't see those mechanical similarities. It feels like a PS2 3D action game, just with better, more refined controls. It would be cool for them to go into that catalog, yes. =)

Great solo discussion Colin! In retrospect I think I should have phrased the "lightness" aspect of the game a little more differently. For that I can only apologize. What I got from the game was that it was subtle, I don't know if I can explain this properly but I will try. The story and the world made space for the player to think about its themes. Hence the "lightness", not about its themes but about how it allowed the player to explore them by not going to deep on its own. It left space for introspective thought. It could go deeper explaining everythng about spirit guides, death, loss, rot etc. but it didn't and I admired it for it because it made me think about these aspects on my own. So combining this with combat that involved precise invincibility frames by dodging, strange hit boxes etc. felt a little bit off for me. I appreciate difficulty. I am a huge FromSoft fan, but to me it didn't fit here. Keep up the good work Colin and stay safe - Dimitris

I think the souls comparison comes from it being difficult and having the same combat control scheme with the dodge rolling and attacking with the bumpers and triggers. Overall definitely one of my games of the year I platinumed it and loved it. Ember lab would be perfect for a new Jak and Daxter or Sly Game.
