KnockBack, Episode 206: Childhood Vacations

So many of our remembrances are centered on our 'home territory' of Long Island, and the places where we would later call home, from Boston to Philadelphia to California. But what about the times we left, specifically for vacation with our family or friends? This week's episode of KnockBack is dedicated to those leisure-filled days and weeks of yore, when we had nothing to do and no expectations, but lots of funny and ridiculous stories to tell. We hope you enjoy.

Love Cedar Point - I grew up on the other side of the state and it was always super exciting to make the drive and spend all day hopping from coaster to coaster

Damn Col, why you gotta call Tum Tum a fat fuck? What’d he do to you? 😂

I grew up going to Cedar Point and worked there for 2 years as a caricature artist. It's a pretty sick place for those that enjoy roller coasters. Better than any Six Flags I've been to.

Ben White

There it is.

We’re actually watching Cobra Kai now and we love it! I really enjoy the ‘flashbacks’. Love those ‘old’ karate kid movies!

Short Beach and Long Beach! That's a throwback.

This was deeply nostalgiac for me, especially your love letter to New England Colin. I grew up in Hudson NH and the family didn't have much money, so most of our vacations would be short-drivable camping spots. Libby's Campground on Long Beach in York Maine (that arcade on Short Beach has all my childhood quarters), Hampton Beach NH, Monadnock and up into the White Mountains were all places we'd frequent for summer getaways. I was fortunate enough to see the Old Man of the Mountain a few times before it fell, i remember the first time I went and it wasn't there, I was 6 or 7 and I just remember balling my eyes out. The land up in New England is sacred, something so unique and special about it, and I haven't come across another place in the US that is like it. I certainly do miss it at times. Thanks for taking me on a little trip down memory lane boys, I really needed it.

I love when Colin is telling a story of him doing something bad or just not recommendable and Dagan is just like “that’s awesome”. Hahha. Great episode guys. As always!

Johnny Lamotte

LOL.

Need that Cobra Kai Knockback episode in 15 years lol.

Michael Buffill

It's a very endearing motif.

So crazy to hear you guys talk about Huntington Beach! I live here and it’s awesome to hear my favorite podcast talk about it :)

Great episode. Dagan hit it on the head on Japanese manga and anime and focusing on younger people in that transitionary period of their lives. There’s always this theme of generations as well in some of the more actiony series about passing the torch. But I love the slice of life anime and mangas that take me back to high school and make you wonder about how different your life could have ended up based on the choices you could have made. I enjoy persona 2 because it’s the only game in the series that got a direct sequel that follows up on the story from an adult/reporters point of view. You can get both versions of 2 on vita and ps3.

Good to hear the state of Vermont got a taste of the legend himself in Papa Moriarty. Its great to hear every vacation has their own unique tale or experience. Shout out to three ninjas, tailless lizards, and Florida lol.

I have seen 311 55 times. We also had the “we belong here” vibe at a hotel when we went to see them at Red Rocks in 2013. The halls of our hotel reeked of weed and I thought, “ah, we made it.” 311 forever…

Fair enough. Glad I didn't miss the boat! Just downloaded and excited to listen while I clear the snow from my property (big storm here in Canada last night). Keep up the great work

That's what this era has done to your brain.

Colin Moriarty

Thank you!

We didn't do a thread for this one. <3

I read this as childhood vaccinations lol

Damn wish I saw the write in post for this one. I have deeply mixed feelings about family vacations growing up in a tenuous situation with my father's second marriage. Depending on the parent the vacation varried drastically. Excited to give this a listen!
