Defining Duke, Episode 65: The Xbox Game Pass "Killer" Has Arrived...

Gamepass been day and date for 4 years and have basically only released like 8 games and half are not great. Service is reliant on day one indies or 3rd party for me. Sony could also get those deals it's too early to say. If sony only gave me Gears, Halo, Forza, crackdown, state of decay, ori, and half baked sea of thieves type games at launch after 4 years I'd rather just pay for the Sony 1st party games imo.

For me I enjoyed the show when Karak was on it because he kept it grounded. So many times Matty would try to egg him on it seemed but he never took the "bait" Matty tries to sensationalize things where as Karak was like "nah" or "no" lol..... I remember Matty complaining about the viewership of DD declining when Karak left and I think a part of DD now is Matty desperately trying to make a splash and to make the show more popular. I could be wrong on this. Maybe the show is actually popular and bigger than ever.

That’s not why PlayStation fans are annoyed with him. We are annoyed with him because he keeps trying force this ideology of gamepass onto PlayStation gamers. We do not want gamepass on PlayStation because the type of games we like can’t survive in that type of subscription system. And because Sony sided with Thier base on this he got in his feelings. I was a big advocate for Matty to get his own show on Last Stand before DD started. I haven’t listened to an episode in a while now. I find his takes and his attitude at times to be insufferable. He also doesn’t say ‘undoubtedly’ correctly and it bugs me 🤣

It's perfectly fine to disagree and formulate your own opinion but there's no need to be disrespectful. @Samuel you contradict your own arguments left and right in your posts so you just need to stand down. To be honest I'm disappointed Playsation is even attempting a subscription service similar to gamepass. PSnow has been out for several years unsuccessfully, yet Sony is still on top. They should understand their base doesn't care to have a gamepass like service. They continually make more software revenue then Xbox so that should tell them their fans don't mind dishing out money for the type of quality of game Sony Studios produce. I have gamepass literally for the Xbox exclusives. I still buy third party games on Playstation because that's the ecosystem I'm heavily invested in for trophies. I will still buy the $100 version of the show on Playstation even though I can get it at no extra cost on Xbox because I just prefer to play that game on Playstation.

I stopped listening to DD a long time ago because I don't find Matty fun to listen to. It seems like by the content he produces he resorts to clickbait and hot takes to get attention. Especially his own content on YouTube. Most thumbnails and video titles are click bait. Makes me think that he doesn't think his content is good enough to speak for it self. I listen to every episode of the show. But I think the Spartacus take was kind of a mess. We have no evidence that an Xbox first party game can even sniff the fart of a standard Sony or Nintendo first party game. If halo is an example of what you can expect day one free games to be, then I will happily pay 70, or 100, to buy quality exclusives. Im not entitled to “free” cheap games. You get what you pay for- economics 101. I think that's the part that was missing in the conversation. Pretending that Xbox is making first party games on par with Nintendo or Sony, then trying to compare the idea of paying full price for them versus a streaming package, is silly. whens the last time Xbox was even in a game of the year convo with something besides a racing game? I don't even like most Nintendo games, but I'm aware that their fans consider them generally high-quality. And Sony is just making a different kind of game than Xbox. They aren't all hits, but if you were placing Vegas bets on quality of exclusives Sony would be the easy favorite for sure. The irony of calling people a stakeholder while you’re comparing everything to Xbox is funny. Im a gamer always. I don’t like the insinuation that I somehow don’t know what I want. I think the question is, does the new ps plus subscription service need to be a replica of gamepass? I don't think it does. As long as playstation keep releasing their top quality games regularly, people will still buy them. Also, it feels wrong to frame this conversation around do xbox need to worry about this new service, because it implies playstation are chasing xbox, when it's the other way round. There's no downside for Sony to any of this.

I guarantee you they would not be doing Day One releases because it's not feasible with the amount of Studios that they own at this point. It's affordable now but it will not be affordable in the future. Everything will go up eventually. And I'm not going to sit here and listen to unintelligent people tell me that this is possible at this moment. When it's simply is not. The only way I would ever listen to Matt talk in the future. Now games nowadays aren't made by people who love games anymore. I know that they're made by people who are in this industry because they think it's cool. We've lost people who used to be into video games because they were passionate about the project. But that's not going to be the case when you have Studios of 300 to 500 people working for you. if we're lucky, 5 years from now. We may see a drop in price of having to create video games. That's only going to be when more photogrammetry in 3D models are going to be easier to get a hold off and in a Open Marketplace. However that's going to come at the cost of people not working as much in the video game industry. But the video games may get cheaper. But that is not what's happening right now. If you want to ask yourself the question why is most of the games that we have been playing through Xbox game pass. Early Access titles whether it's Deep Rock Galactic, Halo infinite, and that game where you're playing is shrunken little versions of yourself fighting ants. That I can't remember the name of. These games are in Early Access not because they think people are into that kind of thing they are a few people who like that. It is because of the subscription-based model. The subscription-based model. You see as long as you can get the fan base to believe that the game will get better in the future. They may continue to play. Sure some people will put the game down but they will visit it from weekend to weekend or every other month of to see what happened to the video game. Making it look like it wasn't a huge failure in the process. Subscription Services really need to be changed to live games as a service. A title that makes me gag. A title that I don't really want to see in the future. However both companies are going at this hard. And even more companies will continue to push for this in the future. Even if Microsoft and Sony don't fill the void. Korean Studios Chinese Studios Studios from around the world. We'll continue to do this type of game design and it does have its place it provides entertainment. However the dying breed of real Gamers will continue to die out. But like I said if I had to make one correction to Matt. It would be this the only argument you can actually really make. That's logical and doesn't have any flaws. And is a legitimate criticism of the product because we don't know what games are on that service. Is the argument that PlayStation 3 games should be backwards compatible and if you cannot make every game backwards compatible. Then at least start off with a few. And then promised more down the line just like Microsoft did. I don't know how hard it is for him to miss the ball that hard. Cog on Elden Ring 😂 I recently 100%ed the game after swearing off Souls games. It’s become one of my favourite games ever, improving on the foundation Breath of the Wild set in terms of exploration and wonder. But. Enemies able to slash through walls, rocks… attempting co-op, even with random people, absolutely zero direction with quests (no spoilers but Millicent’s Questline?) Come on now. Enjoying the episode!
