Sacred Symbols, Episode 212 | Repeat After Everyone

There can be no doubt, now, that Sony wants to be a major player in the esports space. This was first evidenced by left-field acquisitions like EVO, moving into branding decisions like INZONE. Now, with the purchase of esports tournament operator Repeat, the writing's obviously on the wall. Can PlayStation discover success in the games-as-a-service and competitive spaces, where they've traditionally found little to write home about (outside of Gran Turismo)? Plus: Spider-Man's PC port gets detailed, mega-toy company Spin Master gets in bed with Sony, Bungie and PlayStation are official, and more news, followed by listener questions galore. What would we want to see in a Bloodborne 2? How, exactly, does the publisher-developer relationship function? Is it time to get video games more heavily integrated into our schools? Will Chris dedicate his entire life to a $20,000 Halo 2-related bounty?

Just finished listening to this episode. Regarding the second to last topic of playing video games with parents, I'm almost 37 years old, and I will always remember playing Super Mario World with my Dad. He died shortly after I turned 9 years old, and although some of the finer detail memories have faded, I still remember how fun it was to play that game with him. We lived on a dairy farm, so he did not have a lot of free time to play with me, but I loved when when he found time. We would pass the controller back and forth after every death. He was an absolute master at flying Mario across the entire map when equipped with the feather/cape. I was not and still am not anywhere close to as good at flying as he was. I still think of him everyday and especially when I play Super Mario World.

Ouf, you're definitely right about that. My friends said I was crazy when I installed this massive AC unit for 4000€, guess who's laughing now.

Zorro

Well said, just sort of higher corporate diversification.

Tonys_Always_Write

Thank you.

Colin Moriarty

Thank you!

Colin Moriarty

Only 5% of European homes have AC, I read! Thank you. <3

Colin Moriarty

It's interesting.

Colin Moriarty

I just think Sony wants money and connections, and they're fine letting companies act as they want otherwise.

Colin Moriarty

Thanks Muff1n!

Richard Darling

God bless your marriage, congratulations

Alec Davis

Congratulations Colin and Micah! God bless this union!

Marco Maluf

Colin thinking we Europeans live in castles and 18th century mansions and shit. Man, congratulations on getting engaged. I’m very happy for you that you finally found that person that you want to share the rest of your life with. I wish you guys the very best.

I feel there definitely is some Naughty Dog hate as a factor for the reactions to the LoU Part 1 remake, but that is far from the only anger the remake is generating. I brought it up recently amongst some gamer light friends (play older games, virtual card games, and Persona). I honestly wasn't expecting half of them to even know what Last of us was. To my surprise, all but one did know about the Last of us(original), and where noticeably taken a back when they learned about the remake exiting. They knew Last of Us came out on the PS4 "not too long ago." When I went over what is included and the price of it, all of them got upset by it (even the one who never heard of Last of Us). Like, I legit was not expecting this level of hostility from my gamer light friends. So I don't feel the hate the remake is getting is just from ND haters/LoU2 haters. The Remake seems to oddly enough stricken a deeper nerve.

NinjaDC

I definitely think Playstation will get Discord voice chat, but I have no faith it will be any easier or better than on Xbox because of the pre-existing partnership. It's Sony we are talking about, the company that couldn't allow name changes, and can't emmulate their own hardware. Pretty safe to assume that Xbox beat them to the punch either because of weird technical reasons, or Sony is still just resisting crossplay. Either way, only time will tell!

Tonys_Always_Write

I'll look into him, thanks.

Colin Moriarty

Thank you!

Colin Moriarty

Oh, I personally believe TLoU2 itself is the proof.

Colin Moriarty

Thank you. <3

I don't know if Richard will see this but in regards to the Video Games for your class - Check out Zack Hartzman, the Founder of Hey Listen Games and the author of "Teaching with Video Games". I've had him on my podcast, he was a Game Awards Future Class member and is super open. He does exactly what you're looking to do in his own classroom. Reach out to him!

TheMuff1nMon

Congratulations Colin I wish you and Mika the best. Deciding on a wedding band is not a decision you want to take lightly. That's why I went with a titanium band just incase I'm ever in an experimental underwater oil drilling rig my finger won't get crushed on an auto closing bulkhead door that im trying to hold open.

Pace

Maybe I'm just being churlish because I wasn't a big fan of LOU2, but I'm just not sure ND can lay claim to being gaming's (or even Sony's) best studio right now. I think that's a claim you have to keep proving, and they haven't for me for a while. God, I hope they have a new IP to knock our socks off coming soon. I'm not opposed to being proven wrong.

hugplx

I mean this genuinely: I'm happy you started the show with Chris at the time that you did, and that you're still both going strong, today. Godspeed!!

Max Stahl

I really enjoyed it, I gotta be honest!

Colin Moriarty

Loved that show.

Colin Moriarty

My intro to Nosferatu was an episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark!

TheJoe-senOne

Congratulations Colin and Micah! I had to laugh as Colin shared his experience with the custom engagement ring and the GIA. I know many guys (myself included) who became amateur gemologists when it came time to buy / make a ring. You're in good company sir :)
