KnockBack, Episode 234 | Ninja Gaiden (NES) (Video)

Comments

Took me about 3 weekend nights to beat this on my NES w/o save states. Needless to say that sense of accomplishment is something that doesn't go away. Ninja Gaiden 2 and 3 are also painful but doable.

Surge!

I haven't, but I'll check it out.

Great episode guys. Such a classic game. Colin, have you seen the posts / gifs MekaSkull (Cyber Shadow developer) has been posting on his Twitter account? I’m not sure if it’s his next game or he’s just creating random prototypes but check it out. Really reminds me of Mega Man.

They get harder, I think? I don't remember.

Colin Moriarty

Awesome! Love you guys!! I had Ninja Gaiden 2 growing up and I could not even come close to beating it. Loved the music and the cutscenes. Loved the wind effect. Thanks for the episode!!!

Thomas

I loved Cyber Shadow. Really underappreciated gem.

What's old is new again.

Colin Moriarty

Yeah, he'd love it.

Colin Moriarty

Yeah man, that arcade original is... nothing special, for me.

Colin Moriarty

Hard as hell.

Colin Moriarty

Awesome, good to know.

So glad to see strategy guides gettin some love out here. Any kind of literature or documentation associated with any game I was currently playing or looking forward to I just obsessed over. I still use strategy guides when I can. Making notes in the guide, highlighting important information, putting the shortcut tabs on the pages. Oh yeah, Ninja Gaiden is great too lol. No Cyber Shadow shoutout though! Fantastic episode fellas.

I collect Nintendo Power and other strategy guides and I love all of them. I would buy any new guides for games I am interested in.

As a middle school social studies teacher, I can say that when the whole Russia-Ukraine conflict kicked off there were several students terrified of the idea of nuclear war.

Dagan’s gotta play The Messenger. Phenomenal game.

Man, this one takes me back. My brother and I were obsessed with the arcade version. And I remember being so disappointed in the NES port initially, as it was nothing like the arcade (which was a massive hit in our local arcades). But when we got the game, I think we realized pretty quickly that this was even better. The cut scenes probably started my love for cinematic storytelling in games. I even partially learned how to draw by copying them. (P.S. eventually got the arcade port we THOUGHT we wanted on Atari Lynx.....not even close to as good)

Yes! I never could beat that final boss as a kid.
