Sacred Symbols+, Episode 218 | Assessing the Scene With Defining Duke

We heard your pleas: You want more Sacred Symbols x Defining Duke. Well, that can be arranged. In fact, it was! The five of us -- Chris, Dustin, Cog, Matty, and myself (Colin) -- gathered for a nearly-two hour conversation about Xbox, PlayStation, and the current status of our respective scenes. Halo's troubles, a seeming lack-of-excitement about God of War, percolating intrigue about unannounced projects on both sides, the future of subscriptions and games-as-a-service, lessening hardware scarcity, and so much more. We get deep into the weeds, just as we know you enjoy. So please: Do just that.

Thank you. I will.

I think we agree with you. We always defend the reused animations, for instance, as a grounding element.

Colin Moriarty

I haven't played since 2013.

I love this episode and I’d love to see more episodes with the whole gang (or most of them anyway)

I'm kind of annoyed at people's take on GoW Ragnarök. Chris specifically saying it's not the same jump as GoW Ascension to GoW (2018). Idk why this has to be said but not every sequel needs to be a massive departure from the last. To me it's clear GoW Ragnarök is to GoW (2018) what GoW II was to the first game; a sequel on the same platform/console generation that iterates on what makes the first game great, producing a sequel that's better in almost every single way We can't complain about long Dev times then at the same time complain that sequels look like sequels and not a pseudo-reboot/complete change in the franchise

After hearing you're opinions on what the new TLOU factions could be, I was wondering, when was the last time or if you have ever played the original Factions? I thought it was a great addition to the TLOU package but it's rarely mentioned. Maybe it's about time I give it another shot. Thanks for reading.

Chris Adams

I only listen to the audio so didn't know

I wouldn't call myself 'totally satisfied,' but I'm content, especially with so many backlogged games.

Colin Moriarty

Seems we got the last laugh, all things considered.

That's the idea!

Colin Moriarty

We're gonna try to do them monthly.

She got screwed over.

Thanks! =)

I feel that Xbox users should be so angry. Starting with the One X paperweight and now the Series’ lack of anything compelling. It nice to know that even if Microsoft didn’t sell another console or piece of software after today they still aren’t going anywhere. PlayStation 5 has been rock solid. PlayStation’s own users are harder on it than anyone else right now. Everyone wants Resistance, Killzone, Infamous, Silent Hill and more but I am totally satisfied. Also, I’d say the fact that we don’t have all these big titles announce is a direct measurement of Xbox’s deep slump.

Your story about the GS employee being a smart ass with the Wii comment reminded me of one experience (of many). I'm at a GS in a mall and try to buy REMake on GameCube on release day. Clerk says they sold out and I walk away. I get at least 20 feet outside the store in the mall common area, and the clerk is excitedly yelling for me to come back. Did they find an extra copy to sell to me? No, the dude told me with as smarmy a look as he could muster that to avoid this happening again, I should always preorder games.

This is phenomenal. It’s hard to talk about either Sony or Microsoft nowadays without discussing the other, so I really prefer regular cross pollination to platform siloing.

Tick Dickler

This is so great. Would love to see this become a monthly thing

Jeremy Echols

Love when you guys do shows all together! Glad we are getting more of these

Another women that had a tragic path is Jennifer Oneal, head of Vicarious Visions,… just to end up at Blizzard and not short after she’s out after resigning for discrimination against her.

Philip Andersen

Great episode! Always love hearing the whole crew chew the fat.

Good on Chris to stop by and record this episode from the afterlife. The Bonnie Ross comment was refreshing and spot on. To the final conversation, there’s no bigger evidence of this than the latest reveal of the game “Everywhere”. Lead by former Rockstar head Leslie Benzies, this just looks like a straight up attempt to be Fortnite. I’m sad for where the industry is headed.

Holy echo! What's up with Chris's audio?
