Fireside Chats, Episode 98: The Addict's Wife

Back on Episode 80 of Fireside Chats, we welcomed Kris Hall to the show, a man who was willing to openly talk about his battle with alcoholism, how adversely it affected his life, and how it almost cost him everything, including his children and his wife. Today, we welcome Kris' wife Joanne to the show, so she can give her "side" of the story. While we learned a great deal from Kris about what it means to be an addict, we still have much to explore about what it's like to be subjected to an addict's behavior. Kris and Joanne came out of the other side of their years-long ordeal stronger than ever, but it certainly could have gone another way.

This was another very good episode as usual. It was awesome to hear Joanne’s side of the story and what it’s like to live with someone who is going through a struggle like that. Thank you for sharing!

I love the idea of this episode, the perfect follow up. The original episode was very eye opening and interesting, can't wait to listen to this one.

I love that Fireside Chats has basically turned into mini Rogan, but with everyday people instead of celebrities.

Hey Ethan, Remember to be kind to yourself, and keep in mind that overcoming obstacles like addiction is a process. Now that you've honestly identified your problem, you can begin to truly work on it, not only for yourself and your own well-being, but also for those around you who love you and care about you. I'm wishing you the very best, and am glad the show can help get you on a more positive path.

Colin Moriarty

Thank you for your kind words! I'm glad Fireside Chats is resonating with you.

Great episode as always. I’ve actually been “battling” alcoholism for about 5 years now. And I use quotes because it was something I was always just fine with, despite it ruining my last 3 relationships and costing me a couple part time jobs (and it’s also why I hadn’t listened to episode 80 with Chris, because I felt that I shouldn’t apply to me). It wasn’t until last year that I had realized that I was normalizing the damage that I was doing, and pushing people away for the sake of chasing a buzz. I’ve never spoken openly about it, unless it was to garner sympathy from those who were calling me out. In fact, this comment is the first time I’ve tried to truly put it in to words. While I keep telling myself that I have been getting better, my current partner and I have been fighting a lot due to this issue, and just when I had accepted that any effort to change things would be futile, this episode appeared on my feed. I can honestly say that it made me feel like I had a breath of fresh air for the first time in a long time, and that despite addiction feeling like a solo journey, it doesn’t have to be this way. I want to thank you for that. I had decided just a few days ago that I wanted to consciously seek help and improvement, but going back to listen to ep. 80 - and this one as well - has given me the extra push to love myself again, and to help those who need the same. Sorry for the loaded comment, i just greatly respect you and the CLS community, it’s like a virtual safe space for me and I’m so thankful for it.

I'm starting to realize that Fireside chats is where the tru hidden value of CLS is. I used to skip over these but honestly, the depth of content is here.
