Disappointing that they did this, and that people are threatening you. I think that if you went somewhere like Pengucon or Dragoncon, you wouldn't have any trouble getting deplatformed there. Neither of them are gaming conferences though. One's a Linux and Scifi conference, and the other's a random nerdery conference, that does tabletop gaming but not really video games. I now have no reason to bother with PAX in general.

It's shit like this and many, MANY other things that have permanently put me off the gaming media, influencer circles and even the voice actor crowd, cause they're a bunch of authoritarian, regressive, hateful people that are self righteous in the most gross way. But as the late John Bain proved, they represent a dwindling old guard that holds onto dying institutions, whilst YouTubers and Twitch streamers are more likeable than they'll ever be. Yeah - shrug it off! It's easy to let people get under your skin. I almost lost a third of my ear 2 weeks ago playing drunk golf (I don't play golf - mind you), after I broke my club in frustration because I couldn't compete. Either the shrapnel from the graphite shaft or the actual club head left a huge chunk of pulp hanging by my ear drum. 20+ stitches and a couple weeks later -- and it's still bleeding but I'll be okay. The most ridiculous thing in my opinion about all of this is there's no grounds for the treatment that you get Colin. I've been a fan of yours since the IGN days, followed you at Kinda Funny, and have listened to every episode of Knockback and Sacred symbols you've produced. Within that content I can't find one solid example of something you've said that would cause such hostility towards you and your work. I truly do not understand it. People I've shared your work with come to love it for the same reason I do, you're an honest, hardworking, incredibly intelligent person who has a passion for the things he does in life. Doubt I can add to what everyone has said by this point, but I will say one of the things that makes you special, Colin, is that you are always 100% sincere and authentic. When you share a feeling or opinion it's not to represent some group of people or push an agenda or signal that you're on the "right team" it's always what you believe and feel, no more or less. It's always also been clear to me that despite any differences in belief or ideology or politics you honestly care about the well being and happiness of people in all walks of life, in all corners. I think that kind of naked offering of yourself is why so many of us develop such a real love and feeling of resonance with you. There's a bunch of podcasters and personalities that I like and follow, BUT, my feelings of loyalty and support for you are deeper. If someone hurts you or attacks you it makes me angry in a way that I would compare to a close real friend or even a family member. Admittedly, some of that may also be because the main stream also treats you unfairly... beyond unfairly... there are some that actively try to destroy you and others whose silence on the matter should be to their great shame and I have ZERO tolerance for de-platforming, defamation, lies and compromised loyalty through silence. I will say this - IF for some impossible crazy never-gonna-happen-reason they did offer to reinstate your panel, you should go because their hope would be that you would be too "embittered and petty" to let go of whatever flimsy excuse they made for "the confusion," so everyone could say "Oh there was a mix-up but his ego is soo out of control he couldn't let it go." My vote is to not give them that. I'm with you no matter what though. Keeping being and doing you. Also - shout out to Chris who also doesn't deserve this and who I've come to really enjoy on Sacred Symbols.

It just shows how people at top-level jobs like at PAX can be actively stupid because no-one with a different opinion is around to point out a common sense reality. FC is a great show that I know isn’t a big driver numbers wise for CLS but always thought of it as a loss leader, can’t imagine anyone stumbling across it would second guess the quality of the brand and give your other shows a go. I find this whole ideological battle/argument so pointless. Completely unfairly trained on you Colin. I came from in essence not dissimilar background, just in the U.K. I went down a Randian/Objectivist path early on, but you know broaden your horizons, and you might see things differently. Listened to this earlier in the day. Colin, there's not much any of us can say to make this one less fucking annoying. We're all here for you, supporting you, and in my case, tweeting my displeasure at PAX with a level head and without insulting them. Well, without personally insulting them. I think pointing out that their business practices here are horrendous and shining a light on how little they care about their guests and talent isn't an insult as much as it is the truth. It didn't seem like he came on the show to hear Colin's side of things, it seemed like he was there to brow beat the shit out of him. Every Tuesday at 12 I’m refreshing my feed to load a new episode of SS. You are a podcasting treasure and put on a better show than any other gaming outlet out there. That said, the person that I listen to for hours at a time every single week is not the same vibe I get from your Twitter. As someone without a twitter, I don’t frequently read your posts. But every now and then I go down a rabbit hole and see some of the stuff you post. Now, as someone without a Twitter, I don’t exactly like social media. I’m only 25 but I feel like you sometimes, an old man. And that makes me wonder why you bother with the site in the first place. I don’t think 280 words (or whatever it is) are a good platform for anyone. That’s why I listen to podcasts like yours or Giant Bomb’s. They go on for hours sometimes and allow the listener to get a real intimate look into someone’s persona. Someone they can relate to. But your Twitter persona is NOT you. It’s not someone I relate to and I’m betting that the majority of your most loyal followers feel the same way. “The Tweet” was fine. It was funny. I’m sorry it turned your world upside down. But a lot of the stuff on your Twitter is annoying and petty. (This obviously doesn’t include when you ask models about their opinions on the Vita, that shits hilarious.) But frankly I think you can be inflammatory on Twitter towards those that disagree with you. Take your recent argument with Brian Altano. You had a long, beautiful discussion on Fireside chats (RIP) like a year ago. I thought the two of you really put your hearts out there and it made your listeners love you even more. Then on Twitter recently you lowered yourself into yet another petty argument. You’re better than that. Now, onto PAX. It’s unfair to your listeners that they canceled you after asking you to promote their show. I think they’re in the wrong but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re in the right. You’ve been inflammatory AGAIN on twitter regarding your panel at PAX. This one woman who attacked you recently and was in the wrong initially. But by engaging with her and asking her to your show to ask a question is, objectively speaking, asking for a problem. What a shame. As an east coaster I had always looked for a reason to go to PAX West, or some sort of event on the west coast. Having Sacred Symbols at PAX West was enough of a reason to convince me to go. I'm glad I've been busy and haven't requested any time off or booked anything. While I'm sure I would have enjoyed the event as a whole, knowing that they'd treat someone this way was enough to make me reconsider. I won't knowingly support such shameful behavior, and I hope others reconsider as well. The part of all this that truly hurts is that situations like this as well as threats of violence have led you to step back from fireside chats. I have been fascinated with FC since its inception. It has been a source of cultural enlightenment, useful knowledge, deep belly laughter, and failures to fight back tears. The premise was wild: invite someone into your home to have a conversation about, well, anything really, from dog grooming to constitutional rights. I'd always considered getting in touch with you to see if I could come on to talk about dredging, as it's something you had made off hand comments about, usually stemming from Dredge, the band. It's sad to know that I won't have that chance, but I completely understand your decision to protect yourself and those you care about. I appreciate a lot of the work you and everyone else does at CLS. Above all, don't let them grind you down.

I've cried when the show got emotional, I've had deep conversations with people about topics from the show, and when you responded to my message and invited me on, I was so incredibly grateful for your interest and trust and it was the singular reason I bought a plane ticket to LA. But I think you're right, it's fucking wild to think about how someone could abuse that trust and try to cause you or yours any harm. I do hope you find a way to continue to connect with your audience in such a deep way - I think it's one of the most special and interesting things about CLS - without exposing yourself too much. Maybe some sort of remote video or audio chat situation, like Rubin sometimes does or that one episode of KnockBack you did with Dagan (it wasn't even noticeable that you weren't in person.) If people buy plane tickets to come and get the chance to talk with you, they for sure would get a Blue Yeti or something to record audio. Anyway Colin, thank you for being so genuine with your audience as always and just know that we will always support you.
