KnockBack, Episode 102: Fast Food

They say that nothing's better than mom's home cooking (and in the Moriarty's case, that's very true). But when we're young, we seem to have an insatiable appetite for fast food. McDonald's. Burger King. Taco Bell. Whatever junk we could shove in our fat faces, we wanted. And the worst thing that could happen is hearing our parents say, "but we have food at home!" What a deathblow that was. A deathblow, indeed! So let's fondly remember the days of Happy Meals, paper crowns, ball pits, and burger patties with so much salt in them that you could have mistaken them for cured meats from Magellan's trip around the world. For as much as we loved a meal at the table with our family, we loved McDonald's inevitably crack-doused fries even more.

Comments

Hey Moriarty Bros. Epic episode! Had me in stitches several times during the runtime. Also really triggered a bunch of nostalgic memories. I grew up in a small town in South Africa. I still remember waiting in line for hours when the first McDonalds opened up in our town. Would just like to add, I think Colin might be more passionate about fast food than JRPGs. He was killing it this episode. Lastly, please consider doing a few more episodes together. The remote audio quality is excellent, it's just that I'm curious about how the waitress saga develops. Will she/won't she recognize you guys! Cheers, Pete

Pete

"I'd rather eat a pile of shit, than eat at Subway" I literally said this to my wife last week haha

Daniel Boyer

Dagan just doesn't have any taste, and nothing will fix it.

Colin Moriarty

I have the perfect solution to fix your broken brother Dagan and him not worshipping five guys. Instead of getting the double burgers from five guys get 2 single party burgers. I know it doesnt sound like much but I was never at all a fan of it until I just did the one patty dont know what it is but I thought the same thing until I did the singles! Trust me on this one!

Tyler Bello

Interesting!

Colin Moriarty

Nor should you want to.

Colin Moriarty

Yo check out this! Very cool considering you just talked about it. https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/food/2019/10/31/mcdonalds-surprise-happy-meal-retro-toys-return-nov-7-11/4113190002/

Cory Towler

I can’t get big brexfast out of my head!

Omar Rosa

Aw man, I understand that though. I never have had In and Out or Del Taco like y’all mentioned. Hopefully I can experience those in the future.

FourEyes Malone

Rally's I've never had. White Castle I've never liked. Sorry you missed it. =\

Colin Moriarty

I wish I had submitted a comment for the show because no mention of White Castle of Rally’s is crazy to me. And I know you guys aren’t Pokémon fans but the BK 24k plated Pokémon cards were epic. I loved this episode though!

FourEyes Malone

I've had Checkers but I can't really recall anything about it.

Colin Moriarty

I've never even heard of it.

Colin Moriarty

Give it a try!

Colin Moriarty

Also Checkers fries are definitively the best IMO

Joe McPartlin

Burger King's Big King burgers are really good! I highly recommend trying one when you go.

Joe McPartlin

So I drive by a Boston Market everyday on the way to work and didn't realize it until after I listened to this podcast.

Nate McKinney

You're a rabbit.

Colin Moriarty

I've had Culver's, but I honestly don't even remember where.

Colin Moriarty

Listening to this at work where all I have to eat is a banana and some nuts... I am very unsatisfied with my food.

Michael Gates

Don't lmow how much time you boys have spent in the Midwest, but Culvers is legit. Often ranked the best, or one of the best burger chains in the country. You guys should check them out.

Nate McKinney

I've had it! I like it.

Colin Moriarty

If you and Dagan ever find yourselves in Texas you must try Whataburger and P. Terry’s. Also In N Out has made it to Texas, but I’m not really a fan

ZachAttacksGames

I perhaps should have been a little clearer: Corn syrup is considered so bad because it is a CHEAP replacement for sugar. Like I said on the show, I take no umbrage with it, and if anything I think it tastes better than sugar!

Colin Moriarty

We did have that as far as I recall, but I don't remember what it was.

Colin Moriarty

As always, I enjoyed the episode, guys. I'm a few years younger than you, Colin, but I also remember soda making up about 80% of my fluid intake growing up. I've brought up nutrition before and won't go into it, but I'll link this article that you can either take or leave: https://www.biolayne.com/articles/nutrition/high-fructose-corn-syrup-should-we-be-afraid/ In summary, corn syrup isn't inherently evil. The media will eventually demonize everything; they've already come for "chemicals," which literally make up everything on the planet.

Cody Howell

Do you remember having Big Tasty in Mcdonalds? It's by far my favorite item on the menu but I've read on the MCD wiki that it was discontinued in the US and is now only available in Europe. If they discontinued it here, I think I might go on a fucking hunger strike to get it back. If you haven't had it and you ever find yourself in Europe ever again, I highly recommend that you seek one out.

Michal Dudic

Interesting.

Colin Moriarty

That's kinda dark, when you think about it.

Colin Moriarty

... =)

Colin Moriarty

Succumb to the wonders of fast food.

Colin Moriarty

The reason that McDonalds Coca-Cola tastes different is because they order syrup in such massive quantities that it comes in reusable metal containers. Normally the syrup normally comes in plastic bags in a cardboard box. Not sure if you’ll see this.

Nick Moss

I remember when Toy Story came out and BK used Mr potato head to promote the new fries. So I always blamed Mr Potato head for fucking up BK fries!

KoRnTOOL

If Miyamoto is hung like a horse, wouldn’t he have a mega-mushroom?

Eric

God this episode made me so hungry for a god burger! I stopped eating at McD' from the age of about 18 but I still love other fast food places. Did you guys ever have a birthday party at McD'? That's my only strong memory tied to that place.

Cat Charlie

Go get some KEVIN!

Colin Moriarty

Yeah, this is new for us. We didn't have these things until I was in my 20s.

Colin Moriarty

God bless the Quarter Pounder.

Colin Moriarty

They were meant to kill.

Colin Moriarty

I've heard of this. Sounds wonderful.

Colin Moriarty

Well LOOK AT YOU, Anthony. =)

Colin Moriarty

=D

Colin Moriarty

RIP in peace.

Colin Moriarty

That's because you have no taste!!!

Colin Moriarty

LOL.

Colin Moriarty

That's a nice perk.

Colin Moriarty

You grow up in the 19th century?

Colin Moriarty

Diets are for weaklings!!!

Colin Moriarty

Yes.

Colin Moriarty

You're loving it.

Colin Moriarty

We all lived for McDonald's!

Colin Moriarty

We're glad to be a positive influence on your life.

Colin Moriarty

We go there.

Colin Moriarty

Good.

Colin Moriarty

That's right!!!

Colin Moriarty

Not a big fan of fast food..but listening to this I can’t stop craving fast food now omg.

kevin berger

Fun fact. McDonald’s actually introduced the biscuit sandwiches in the 80’s however it was a regional thing. The region you grew up with was McMuffin based. The south had biscuits. And somehow the Midwest got both. (Generally. There were exceptions)

Brad Gray

While McDonalds holds a place in my heart, I've come to loose it also. The once bright red and inviting rooftops and playpens have been replaced by dull, lifeless deck grey painted buildings with menus that are harder to read than the old simple ones with the big pictures on them :( Anyway, I'll have a quarter pounder with cheese, no onion or mustard, fries, sprite, and an apple pie.

Surge!

Duuuude. My mom cut her hand pretty nasty on one of those Disney glasses too, it broke while she was doing dishes. That's insane.

Nate McKinney

Colin, did you ever try having a McGangBang from McDonald’s? If you don’t know what it is, it’s basically a McDouble split in half with the McChicken in the middle (add BBQ sauce or Mayo to your liking). It’s killer dude. Literally and figuratively.

Will Hahn

My daughter has many food allergies, but one of the places she can eat at strangely enough is McDonald's. I'm very happy that they have apple slices. She can get a happy meal with; a plain burger, fries, apple slices and an apple juice. She has a dairy and nut allergy, but luckily neither is in these products!

Anthony J Sanchez

I knew who Stan was. : )

Caleb Greer

RIP Double Decker Taco.

Levi Gilbert

If you ever go come back to the UK, I'd like to take you to a Burger King. I prefer it more than 5 Guys

John Apocalypse

“What you need eggs for? I want a hamburger. Not an egg McMuffin!” Eddie Murphy

Michael Thew

Lol my kids have jobs now and one works at Culver’s, so they always get fast food or eat out.. It kills me because I always have food at the house.

Michael Thew

Ohhh, Boston Market is delicious! Let me know what you think when you try it... 👍🏻

BettyAnn Moriarty

There is a Boston market I drive by 2 or 3 times a week here in Michigan. I never knew what it really was. I’ll have to try it soon.

MayorGarbageMan

Those 0.29 cent hamburgers at McDonald's were my fav growing up.

Will Caldwell

Me: alright time to start my diet Also me: orders McDonald's while listening to this podcast

Zachary Parsley

McGriddle or death?

GameSimp

Ah yes my favorite game, Metal Solid Gear

Watch Ergo Proxy

Been waiting on this one since The Pool episode.

Brandon Soto

I was a fat fuck that lived of McDonald’s as a child so this is gonna incredibly nostalgic for me actually lol

Craig Carter

This is honestly going to be the greatest podcast of all time. I just know after I hit play I'm gonna end up in the drive-thru.

Jesse DeRosa

Really hoping for a brief discussion on how great Chick-fil-A is during this episode

Derek Waechter
