Complacency.

Side Quest, Episode 83: PlayStation Now Is Falling Behind

They have something to worry about if they can't compete with new games.

Wired, I have like 250 up and maybe 15 down. LOL.

Colin Moriarty

We'll see! Could take a while to integrate.

I live in Lisbon, Portugal and have a 500 Mbit down, 100 Mbit up fiber connection with around 2-3 ms ping. I'm mostly a PC gamer, and also have a PS4. I've tried GeForce Now on my PC with an ethernet connection and the experience was quite OK. It did 1080p 60 fps consistently, but you could notice a variable level of compression artefacts - sometimes better (less noticeable) sometimes worse (getting closer to youtube live streams / twitch streams). On that score it was better than expected, though not ideal. With regards to latency, it was noticeable, sometimes only slightly, sometimes a little more. Playing Destiny 2 multiplayer was very bad as you could totally tell the extra latency meant I was effectively reacting later than other players - I got killed higher than average compared to running the game locally. So, considering I have an excellent internet connection and was wired (nobody else in the house), I guess this is pretty much a best case scenario. With the majority of people (particularly in the US) not having as good an internet connection, I remain VERY skeptical that game streaming could be the future. And when these multiple companies keep pushing and pushing for it, and telling you it works great even on wi-fi and mobile, I just feel they're forcing the marketing sweet talk down people's ears. Not to mention the huge amounts of data it consumes, especially for 60 fps and high bitrates. Most reviews for these services have been around mediocre - some very bad (huge latency), some just ok. I guess for slow paced games, like turn-based it doesn't really matter, but I don't see it as being a reliable alternative. And if one wants to save money, get the Series S with Game Pass all access and pay a monthly fee that's not that much expensive and has everything you need for a good old-fashioned local experience, I would say. (also, which people don't have money to buy a console and so are considering game streaming, but then have the money for really good internet connections to use it?)

Great vid! I wonder how much better Xcloud will get when MS starts utilizing Orion, the cloud streaming SDK that they acquired in the Zenimax purchase.

You don't want it to be broken for some folks.

Colin Moriarty

We'll see how it pans out. Believe!

Colin Moriarty

It's ridiculous they don't just release it worldwide. Even if the streaming doesn't work properly for PS3 games there's more than enough downloadable PS2/PS4 games to justify the $10/Month price tag.

Jeremy Miller

Thanks for watching!

Colin Moriarty

Yes indeed.

Colin Moriarty

That's certainly true.

Colin Moriarty

They gotta put the pedal down a bit!

Colin Moriarty

Game Streaming is impossible in Europe and will stay so for years. I don’t know why these company’s even invest in it. As an older Person I remember all the different times they promised us Virtual Reality.....Game Streaming is the same Pipedream. I will never stream a game as long as there a other possibilities. It’s a lagging Trainwreck.

Great video. This just reinforces my sentiment, that game streaming will either be niche, or a value add at most. The majority of people who enjoy playing video games will just fork out the cash to play the games natively, I think.

Its gonna be more of a level playing field, It is Sonys to lose

Douglas Coffin

The issue is Sony needs the money more Xbox

I agree. Once Xbox's studios start pumping out the first party games(presuming most of them are good) PS5 is going to look antiquated.

Nick Aguirre

Funny, I've asked Colin last week if Sony had become complacent on SS+, looks like I wasn't the only one feeling that way.
