Honestly my only reason for wanting/needing a PS5 is my PS4 Pro has begun overheating consistently. I tried to take the console apart to apply new thermal paste, but manufacturing defects in the screwheads are preventing me from being able to take it apart. Hence I need a replacement console, so why buy another PS4 Pro when I can upgrade to the PS5 and still play my PS4 games.

At the time of recording it was documented the XSX outperforms the PS5 in Black Ops Cold War's 60 fps RT mode (see timestamped citation from Digital Foundry: https://youtu.be/RnZAN91pUiw?t=651). This appears to have been a glitch however, since restarting checkpoints makes these frame drops disappear. On a similar note, the AC Valhalla patch 1.04 greatly improved performance on Series X, reaching essentially parity with the PS5 version of the game (at a more stable 60 frames, but drops to a lower dynamic resolution lower bound). Chris did not botch the segment.

What's frustrating is listening to people telling lies about how the PS5 works. The PS5 does download PS5 versions of games by default. To download a PS4 version of a game, you need to select the PS4 version in the playstation store. If you select the PS5 version, you literally need to click on a box that says PS4 version after hitting download of the PS5 version. If you rushed through the process and clicked that, that's on you, Chris. Also, not only does the PS5 say PS4 right next to any game title that is a PS4 version on the main dashboard, but it also has a PS4 Icon on the PS4 games in the library. Also any time you want you can click options, game version, and choose the PS5 version. What pisses me off even more is the suggestion that we shouldn't be able to download the PS4 version at all on PS5. How does that make any sense???? So if we own both, we should lose all access to games we own just because people like Chris are too stupid to be able to notice that they downloaded and switched to the PS4 version of a game? No. I'm not losing options and games that I paid for just because people can't pay attention.

Your statement is correct. That being said the passive income off a console is nowhere near the same. I’m shocked you of all people colin are making this argument as you yourself have said this before about money earned off a item. Windows isn’t the same as getting a cut off games sold on your platform. Even if the platform itself makes less money to make eliminating your consoles value by publishing all games and giving them your sub service does limit the worth of your console. Let’s face it your not playing a native game on your tv it’s streaming. Same with your phone. Gamepass ultimate is supposed to be that massive value spike without the need for physical hardwear or a add on to work with it. To have a console and then devalue your own console to make less money from games sales on another platform isn’t adding up to me. I would have to see the real number data to how this would even make sense.

I don't agree with your assessment! Microsoft has traditionally been a software and services company. Xbox (and now Surface) are really the only two notable, successful examples otherwise, going back to Microsoft's founding in the late '70s.

I will say this if Microsoft made a console just to put all their games on their competitions same console then they will lose way more money. There is 0 point to get pay for ea play on gamepass and spend the hundreads of millions on rnd to make make not one but 2 consoles. It would be the biggest waste of money a company could ever do. I get the streaming aspect but putting stuff fully one ps5 would actively counter their money making power greatly. I said all their games to not just some exceptions.

For Jason’s comment: I’m on the complete other side. I can’t go back to last-gen after experiencing the faster download speeds, the faster load times, and 60fps. “Maybe he is. Maybe he’s dead.” 😅 Chris says Batman is incredibly boring. I don’t get this. Batman is arguably the most popular comic character right along with Spider-Man. Best part of Batman is that you could argue Batman is who he is and Bruce is the mask. The TTG series played with this concept very well. As for Spidey, I’m team Pete in both gameplay and voice acting. I hope they twist Venom around in the sequel and make it Miles who goes bad if anything. Although I think making it co-op would be wild.

I can be somewhat sympathetic toward someone who decides they actually don't want the console and attempts to resell it. But selling it for gratuitous profit is what makes a Scalper. If you sell a $500 console for double the price you spent...that makes you a scalper. You have scalped a console at that point. And most importantly, scalping is making next gen consoles only accessible to the super-rich (as you mentioned, doctors and lawyers). Whether you're selling in bulk or a single unit, if you sell a PS5 for $1000, you're making console gaming a "rich-kid" experience this holiday season

You guys should check out the replies to any IGN tweet talking about the consoles. The tribalism and fan boy-ism is worse than it has been in awhile in my opinion. I grew up in the 90s and experienced that Sega Nintendo console war but it never felt like this. It could just be because people can be anonymous online now and couldn’t back then. It’s def not really a big deal though or worth leaving the industry over.

I also wanted to bring up an issue I'm having with Twin Breaker on PS4 where the edge of the screen is shaved off a tad bit. You can see most of the hearts and the time but the sides are clipped. I tried messing with the screen output settings on the PS4 but it didn't take and there's no such menu in-game. Anyway, maybe you could patch it so that it responds to some kind of screen output setting. Should I just get a new tv? Is it part of the retro aspect of it? Love everything CLS. Trying to love one more thing

I don’t think it’s weak of Phil Spencer to point out the toxicity of the fandoms. Dude inherited a mess and had to gut and rebuild the brand (much like our Jets are currently in the process of doing with Joe Douglas rebuilding it, god willing), all while facing online vitriol for the lack of new IP on Xbox One when it seemed obvious they wanted to move away from Xbox One as soon as possible (probably why they formally showed Series X almost a year before release). I felt like he punted last generation in favor of putting his eggs in the Series X/S basket. It should be interesting to see this choice play out. Competition keeps everyone sharp, us consumers will win out long-term.

I feel like I need to second Joseph's complaint about the PS5 store. I literally only use the PS store to shop for deals, so the fact that Sony removed the options to search only for discounts is completely baffling to me. I am thankful that Colin is finally making his way through FF7 Remake. I can't believe it took this long, but I'm glad nonetheless. And yes. This month might take the cake on the worst PS Plus offering of the year.

Chris saying “Rockstar’s incentive to make another Grand Theft Auto is so low” is one of the craziest things he’s ever said on this show, and this man proudly showers with his glasses on. I get what he’s suggesting in that they’ll keep making money through GTA Online, but it’s one of the most successful franchises of all time so I’d say the incentive is pretty high to keep that series alive with another entry even if online is a notable part of the package.

On PSVR, I feel like we will see an updated unit this year because Sony cannot wait too long in the face of upcoming hardware like the Oculus Quest... also I am feeling like that lack of a PSVR bundle for the U.S. hints that a newer unit is coming here sooner rather than later. On a side note I want to commend Sony for making the PS4->PS5 camera adaptor free for anyone with a PSVR, they could have easily sold that part but they did the right thing by current PSVR owners.

The white console and lack of exclusive games locked my choice to wait for a limited edition hopefully in a different color. The one thing I really want to play on next genie CyberPunk, but I’m thinking I just play on PC if I want the ultra settings to show the game off.

Stick to PlayStation Direct, it's the safest way to have a fair chance at snagging one. Once in the queue keep refreshing even though it says not to. You'll find the wait time will go down after a few minutes of refreshing. It's worked twice for me, try it out my friend.
