KnockBack, Episode 150: A Milestone Celebration

Our retro and nostalgia podcast KnockBack is a bit of an enigma. On one hand, it's a relatively straight-forward, passion-driven project -- heavily directed by our wonderful audience -- but there's a catch: The nature of our show means it's hard to go back and talk about already-trodden topics again. Since we've reached this 150 episode milestone, however, we figured we'd try to change that, if not just for a brief flicker of time. That's because this episode gives you -- that aforementioned lovely audience! -- the ability to pick our brains further about already-visited topics, as well as discuss the past, present, and future of KnockBack. And yes: The future is indeed bright. So let's chat about all of it.

Dad jokes in the description. 😘

Thanks for listening!

Colin Moriarty

Sounds good. =)

Colin Moriarty

Monthly Disney update? Does that sound like something we'd do?

Colin Moriarty

He's awesome! We'll continue to do the show regardless of growth; we have fun with it.

Colin Moriarty

Maybe we will. I dunno. We're just spitballing.

Colin Moriarty

Horizon was voted on by the audience, as you said.

Colin Moriarty

You’d do anything for love...but you won’t do that. No you won’t do that.

Kevin Tuber

Hell yes to more 'current' topics from you guys! Would also love the opening to be just a catch up on how your daily lives have been. Always enjoyed hearing that. Cheers!

Saylor O;'Malley

My mom use to make a primarily beef meatloaf, with bacon and cheese. She called it a burger meatloaf and it was amazing.

Simon Payne

about that contemporary nerd stuff show, I'm not against it in principle but if it ends up being a monthly Disney update then honestly I'm out. after seeing the recently announced planned deluge of Star Wars and Marvel content I just can't be bothered to actively keep up with any of it. going through news isn't really that interesting either, I would much rather you do a Knockback episode on a new thing from time to time once you are able to actually go in depth. e.g. Mandalorian probably deserves an episode like that.

Michal Dudic

Completely agree Colin the show deserves more of an audience, Dagan is a damn treasure and he's really taken to podcasting but I know I can fall off knockback for weeks at a time depending on the run of topics. I do Wonder if the genre variety of the show and fan integration for topic selection actually hurt it in some way ? but im sure you see the metrics of what gets the most traffic etc

Craig Mcguire

So the idea of separating it out into two shows imo wouldn't make sense... why not just keep it all the same show? Knockback should keep being what it is sometimes its very recent stuff someone's very retro imo.

Tyler Bello

Knockback is the best show, it's not even close. If I had to complain, it would be that you guys have been doing topics lately that are not retro, Horizon Zero Dawn for example. However they are fan voted so it's not your fault. And I still enjoyed them, so yeah. An idea could be to do one actual retro topic a month that is chosen by you guys .

We'll see what we can do!

Colin Moriarty

Thank you. <3

Colin Moriarty

Stop it!

Colin Moriarty

A new show based on more current topics would be fantastic! Really loving the deep dives and break down approach with the show, I think we are hiting the mark here more than with the spoiler casts! (Both shows are really great though) Congrats on the success boys, really excited to see how things evolve in the new year!

Steve Gray

I'm really glad you guys have a passion for this show. These podcasts are my favorite 2-3 hours every week! Dagan is the coolest cat on the block (said in a Dagan's "cool" voice).

RK9

In regards to Dagan's pitch for new stuff with you two I say absolutely would love that. Happy 150 and here's to the next 150!

Marcus Brown

I dont listen to every show - growing up in England in the 80s still had some pop culture differences to you guys - but I have enjoyed everyone I have listened to! Keep up the great work both!

Michael Cook

Meatloaf is disgusting. My mother's meatloaf was lauded by everyone, I just hate it. To me, it's like meat with a million lbs. of ketchup. No thanks.

Jeremy Seal

That's where my mind is at for both; three for LotR and whatever (seven?) for GoT.

Colin Moriarty

I think he meant cryptic?

Colin Moriarty

Thanks for listening! <3

Colin Moriarty

I did my best.

Colin Moriarty

Duly noted.

Colin Moriarty

That's right!

Colin Moriarty

We're really glad to be here for folks. <3

We're glad to have you here. Thank you for supporting us and giving us a chance!

Colin Moriarty

Thank you!

I like this show a lot. Thanks. I think LOTR movie trilogy deserve 3 episodes. And every season Game of thrones should get an episode (or 2 seasons per knockback episode).

Morten Madsen

Dagan kept saying "cryptic" during the Rygar conversation when I think he meant "vague". I guess add this to the pile for the next episode like this lol. Great episode as always boys.

Michael Candelaria

Another excellent conversation, so so good to hear you guys as usual. You've capped off a excellent Christmas for me

Kenny C

I love the OH moment myself and didn’t know it was a reference because I’ve just now started watching The Sopranos. Col, your duck sound was something but not a duck. 😂 I’d love to see you guys do more modern topics. I find that I skip a lot of KB eps because I don’t know the topic you’re covering. Sometimes I’ll look it up and listen on time, other times I might put them off until who knows when. 😣

NeO JD

A lot of the episodes I have enjoyed listening to on knockback have been the more contemporary video game ones, and it was funny that Dagan asked that at the end of the episode because I was thinking of that during it. It would be cool to have special episodes that are something like “Colin shows Dagan” where Colin shows Dagan a new video game release that he is particularly interested in and we also get Dagan’s take on it!

Didn't even listen to this episode but yeesh, Colin still disrespecting Mortal Kombat lmao. The game sells way more and is filled with much more content than any fighting game Capcom put in the past generation. And yeah youre right its huge in the FGC, practically leading the way for rollback netcode being a mainstay in fighting games.

Congrats man. This podcast has gotten me through a lot of times, and while Sacred Symbols is more popular or listened to, this one is definitely the best. The chemistry between you 2 brothers is second-to-none. Here’s to 150 more episodes. 🍻

Brandon Soto

You know what’s funny Col’? *Dagan voice*

Brandon Soto

Colin I love that someone tells you that you’ve basically missed a ton and that you dislike Mortal Kombat because you’re not aware of how far it’s come, and your retort is practically, “No, I know what it is and how far it’s come, I think I’m right” despite having no idea about how far it’s come, hahahhahahaha. There’s a reason classic MK was just looked at as silly and basic and these days it’s one of the biggest and most celebrated games in the fighting game community. Fighting game fans do NOT accept shitty games, and MK is extremely popular and competitive today. Classic hard headed Colin. This episode was great, guys. Love when you guys look back on your own work every so often. Merry Christmas!

Feels like it just started keep up the great work!

strawhatninja

Holy shit 150 episodes with the best siblings ever!

KomakiKhaos

Just want to say that I love the show and everything you do. I found knockback about a year ago, and have listened heavily since. Just started to get into sacred symbols, and just today subscribed here. I look forward to every episode and can't wait to see what happens next year! I can't tell you how strange it has been to find a podcast host I enjoy, and then discover that he wrote so many of the reviews that decided which games I would buy. And wrotw the guides to help me through them. Born in 94 and grew up on jrpgs

Jar_Farters_inc

Love this show! Thanks for everything fellas and Happy Holidays!
