Hey C(D)C, I just finished January's PS+ free game Shadow of the Tomb Raider and holy crap this game broke my patience for pseudo-load screens. The number of times Lara squeezes through cracks in a wall or slowly crawls under overgrown brush is unbearable - not to mention most of the time you're returning to the same area so you're going through the same obstacles again and again. Even after playing the first two games a few months ago I don't remember them being this bad. Is this going to be a norm in the industry now or is it just some weird Crystal Dynamics quirk? Or, hopefully, is it just a limitation of the PS4, and PS5 games will not need these drawn-out traversal cutscenes? Wading through mud for the 900th time actually made me miss black screens with a spinning icon in the corner. Keep up the great work, boys.

I did. I had -1.0 and then -0.5 prescriptions, and then my eyes got back to 20/20. It's apparently not that uncommon, but I didn't know that was even possible. I actually became relatively reliant on the transition lenses, however, and that's why I'd wear them while going out, etc. But I've totally broken myself of wearing them at all, and I just wear sunglasses outside now.

Just hearing your take on it and how you get fired up talking about it makes me feel like I'm not alone. Collin, with what you said about migrating over from PS5 to Xbox due to manufacturing limits; I did just that. I mainly spend all my time on Destiny, and the biggest reason for me wanting to upgrade is due to the mere fact that I want to play Destiny with 60fps and an FOV slider. After countless attempts and hours and hours of time spent trying to attain one, I gave up. I saw a Series X on GameStop’s website and realized enough is enough. I now have a Series X and couldn’t be happier. Keep up the incredible work guys.

My problem with Colin saying that TLOU2 should win Dice Goty is a no, this game was already goty before it was out or played , talk of the game died after Ghost came out, was on sale for $30 in November, yes it’s a beautiful game made by naughty dog that’s all it’s going for it. Animal Crossing sold more, played by a diversity of people from kids to grandparents, was the most talked about game for most of the year (google trends), still sells for $59.

Hey, Video timestamps are probably possible, but that's a Dustin question. It's his workflow. So, there are several reasons why the video version has ads, but it all revolves around YouTube, the workflow, and the sheer amount of time it takes to render and upload a video, even on beefy machines like ours with good connections. For starters, uploading essentially the same video twice to YouTube is horrible algorithmically, even when one is deleted. Having one up and then replacing it with the same file minus the ads would hurt us. There's that, and it's important. But the major thing, actually, is the sheer amount of time it takes to render and upload a 2-3 hour video. It's not trivial, and so it's not really possible for us within our work constraints to remove ads when they come in. The video you're seeing simply has to be the video shown to everyone on YouTube; you're merely getting it early. Ads with audio are totally trivial because we record those ads and then they're put into this database and put into shows based on timestamps, etc. But here, we need to hardcode and manually put those ads into the video. It's not ideal, but unfortunately it's our solution, at least for now. If you don't want to keep timestamps handy, a good rule of thumb is just to fast-forward about 90 seconds from the start of the ad, and you'll be golden. And, we don't sell ads every week, so you won't always be dealing with this. We're always open to feedback, and we encourage you to keep it coming, but I hope this makes some sense as to why we're doing things as we are.

Holy shit. I thought Dustin was Dreamcastguy this whole time. I found it odd because I feel like his take on video games and the industry is quite different from that of Colin and Chris’s and never seemed in line with what Dustin says on the podcast. I see you have timestamps under the video to skip ads, but can’t you edit the ads out of the video you upload to Patreon? Seems kinda lame considering the $5 tier is supposed to bring ad-free access, and I don’t really appreciate passing the work (if menial) on to me considering I pay for it. I get that the audio version is available to me ad-free, but I’m choosing to consume the video version, so I’d assume they’d both be ad-free. Also, perhaps it’s asking a lot, but timestamps for the video podcast would help a lot. I get it’s more work since the length is different from the audio-only, but the app doesn’t save your spot for the video version like the audio does all the time, so often the video restarts if I have to come back to it, then I have to guess about where I was by referencing the audio timestamps that are inaccurate for the video. In sum, the video version adds the value of video, which I appreciate, but it does so at the cost of imbedded ads and absent timestamps... Thanks for your time.
