KnockBack, Episode 158: BioShock Infinite

High above the clouds is a city in the sky. It's called Columbia, and it was once a part of the United States, a floating testament to American Exceptionalism and the sacred religion of The Founders. This is all true in BioShock Infinite, anyway, an adventure set in an alternate version of 1912. As Booker DeWitt, your charge is clear: Rescue an unusual girl named Elizabeth from the grasp of Columbia's deified leader and get out of dodge. But, as with Ken Levine's original BioShock, Infinite is about much, much more than meets the eye, a clever, well-written title that challenges the very essence of what makes games... well... games! Racism, nationalism, militarism, industrialism. These aren't exactly common thematic elements of the fare we usually play. But here, they're central to the story. So press play, my friends. It's time to wipe away the debt.

This was a game that I liked the first time through but loved the second time after I understood the story more. Thanks for the episode, can’t wait for the fourth Bioshock game!

Nathanael Haller

On a serious note, this was a great episode, I wish there were more bioshock series so we could hear you two talk about it. Also, can we talk about how cool The name Booker is

Kenneth Oms

Columbia is so fully realized that I have to give applause to the art team and ken Levine. Brilliant game and I’ve always wanted to know what was left on the cutting room floor.

Andrew

George Carlin was actually the parody of the Architect in Scary Movie 3 😂

Michael Vecchio

Ooooo I’ve been flipping waiting for this!!!

Quintin Propes

I’m playing through Bioshock Infinite again on 1999 mode and this episode came at the best time. I’ll give it a listen once I’ve finished the game again

Darragh Livingstone

Bioshock Infinite comes in 2nd on my all time list. I still remember finishing it on PS3 and seeing it still hold up as I platinum the game early last year. Super excited to hear you guys’ thoughts.

D'Ante Almo

Already know this episode is gonna be a banger.

I'm way healthier and more masculine than you, though.

"I'm not that worried about getting Covid, maybe I should be." As someone who just recently had it and got over it, yes, you should be. I've been through a lot in my life and let me tell you, this was the worst illness of my life. On day 11 I genuinely thought I was going to die. I'll spare you all the details. Just be as safe as possible, Colin. I love ya too much to be okay thinking about you going through what I went through!

Ian (616Entertainment)

The video will go live tomorrow. We had to wait for some assets.

Colin Moriarty

Hell yeah boys been waiting eagerly for this one

Colin Stevens

Chris also recorded video for an SS+ episode and it never got posted

Kaleb

Colin: Within the first 15 seconds of the episode, mentions that they are on camera for the first time in Knockback history. Also Colin: *no video on Patreon* Oh, Colin. You c**k tease. LOL. 😂

Aric Peña (@AricJP)

I choked on my water at the “yankee game in a barrel” comment XD

Robert Graham

What a great episode! I just wanted to provide a quick correction; America was involved in the Boxer Rebellion as a member of the Eight Nation Alliance. https://www.archives.gov/publications/prologue/1999/winter/boxer-rebellion-1.html So the history in the game was fairly accurate, save for the whole floating city piece. Thanks again for the great content!

Zach Wishnuff

This podcast is on video?! We want to see Dagan, release it and let us see the dag meister! Let us in!!

Kenneth Oms

A video version? This just made my week

KomakiKhaos

Dagan, on video?! Dreams do come true.

Derek Waechter

Viktor

Did Dagan say it took him FORTY hours? Is that even possible with this title?

John

Really been looking forward to this one. Bioshock Infinite is one of my favorite games.

Matthew Clem

BABOOMSKI

Casey Sitter

Will Ellis

I think I own the Bioshock collection on all 3 systems, (Xbox one, PS, and Switch). Lol. I think they're still all sealed. I love this series and need to go back and play all these again!

Anthony J Sanchez

Video version of knockback ?! Color me excited!

Vladislav

Video? I thought Knockback wasn't going to video too, did I miss something?
