Such is typically the case when a new State of Play stream occurs. The new one gave us some interesting items to consider -- fresh looks at Returnal and Deathloop, for instance -- but learning about Final Fantasy VII Remake's PlayStation 5-exclusive DLC definitely takes the cake. Yet, we have to ask: Are States of Play all-too-transparent marketing gimmicks dressed up as fan events? Let's discuss. Plus: News galore! Sony has officially announced PSVR2 (though it's unclear why), Days Gone is going to PC (with more first party games behind it), EA has officially pulled the plug on Anthem (perhaps a year or more too late), Gran Turismo 7 has been pushed out of 2021 (but only into 2022), and much more. As always, we round things out with listener inquiries, this week ranging in topics from the hypothetical value of Square Enix on the open market and the usefulness of games as a coping tool to the perfect devs to take on Castlevania and Metal Gear Solid and Chris' peculiar New York dialect.

2021-03-05 23:45:03 +0000 UTCAnother important factor by using a cabled solution is weight. You don't have to pack in hardware to run the headset or battery to power it. And while Quest 2 is nice, it's hardware is generations behind the hardware in PS5 and even mobile hardware in 2022, are going to have a real tough time to run the high resolution and high FPS that is required for VR. On top of that, devs would have to build games on a quite different platform if going with a wireless solution, rather then develop hardware for PS5 hardware. There is the option to use a WiGig wireless solution, but that still requires a battery on the headset and WiGig hardware isn't cheap. Eg. the wireless adapter for Vive is priced at 300$. Also while adding VR modes to AAA games is a fine idea, it only works if the VR mode actually works with the game. There is nothing worse then some tacked on VR mode, just to be able to say PS VR 2 on the box. I rather take AA PSVR2 games then lousy tacked on VR modes at AAA games. Also great episode, is a tad behind and the length of these bad boys doesn't make it easier to catch up!!! I approve :)

I don’t get the continued pushback...it took them roughly 6 weeks to get this first major patch out and it is definitely worthy of a play through. The cyber attack continues to stain the release though. The story and voice acting is some of the best I’ve seen in a first person open world RPG and had a blast playing over the holidays.

It was much better than the Nintendo Direct. It gave looks at new games that appeal to more than just weebs. It would do you good to watch the Directs for a point of comparison. You say again and again that you're tired of seeing trailers for games that you're already interested in. Then why do you want to see more Ratchet and Clank in every State of Play? I'm sure we will see more Ratchet and Clank in the coming months. It doesn't need to be in every State of Play for it to be good. I'm excited to listen to the podcast on State of Play weeks because there's plenty of games and news to talk about compared to most when there's very little, but you guys seem disappointed with them whenever there is no tentpole showing. Way less people would watch these trailers if they were just dumped on the Playstation YouTube channel along with all the other crap on there. This is Playstation's way of curating notable indie games for us. It's all about expectations.

Let's just take it for what it is, it's not that bad after all. I was surprised that Ratchet & Clank was not featured though. Perhaps there will be another State of Play before it's release.
