Defining Duke, Episode 19: The Coalition Moves To Unreal Engine 5 + Halo Infinite Hits Controversy

Xbox looks to be shifting to a next generation state of mind. First party studios inXile Entertainment, Ninja Theory, and now The Coalition have all moved their work to Unreal Engine 5. This setting up the alluring discussion of how quickly we can transition, if at all, into those generation defining experiences! All is not well in the first party world! 343 Industries came under seemingly unfair criticism from the press and content creators when accusations of crunch began to surface. This all stems back to a single skybox artist who used to work at the company, Eric Lin. He followed up on his misinterpreted comments  and that’s where the story really begins. Over in Bethesda land, the bad news for them is good news for us! Starfield leaks! Sprinkle on top a scathing discussion of french fries being dipped in a frosty and you have yourself the 19th week of Defining Duke.

As an American representative of this comment, we know you weirdos call cookies “biscuits.” Dipping anything other than liquor / fruits into orange juice is sick shit regardless. We do however make better chocolate than y’all. Much love from your friends on the right side of the pond. :)

I hated RE7. It felt cringe and more disgusting and not disturbing. The whole hills have eyes crap is not my cup of tea. I’ve found RE8 fun as hell and I am one trophy away from the platinum, damn you S / SS rank mercenaries trophy. The ending hit me hard!

Hey gents, I’d say drop the pc deals section, I feel like it just kills the momentum of the show. I’d even go further and suggest rolling gamepass pick of the week and BC game of the week into a single segment and each of you just pick one or the other to talk about.

Anthony Maltese

I actually like the PC Deal Section, but it's only really useful if the deals you mention are still going after the show goes live on youtube. Otherwise it's not broadly helpful to the viewing audience at large. In any case, as a brand new patreon supporter, keep up the great work. Anything you do is gold.

James Pridemore

The PC deal section is not good. Anyone can also find these if they are even half looking online. I’d rather the hosts talk about something else for longer. Just feels really out of place IMO.

Ivan Hornett

I agree with this. I think the PC hardware stuff jumps around so often that it will always be kind of hard to have the best info for that spot. I think it feels a bit misplaced as well. I understand wanting to include pc into the discussion and it fit's most on the Xbox podcast if you have to cover it. I think games exclusive to pc might be the way to go though as it could tie in to what may come to consoles as well.

IMO they should focus just on game sales and skip the hardware. Maybe pick 1 game each that is on sale that they would recommend or something.

KevinFausch

Loving the show, but dump the pc discount section, bit I always skip

Simon C

This is a good perspective. I appreciate that Matty wants to make this a partially PC podcast, but he should investigate other ways to do so. I don't have any ideas though.

I had a friend back in school who would dip custard cream biscuits into orange juice. Americans probably won't know what I'm talking about, but Brits will know this is some real sick shit.

TROTMAC96

I highly doubt anyone interested in building their own PC is waiting for the next episode of Defining Duke to drop. No offense you guys do great but that section feels like it belongs in a podcast in 2011 not 2021.

Knightsofray

Given the current situation with hardware prices/availability, I'm not super interested in keeping the deals section. I bought RAM for a PC build at $65 last August, and that wasn't a significant markdown. Those same sticks go for $100+ right now, so a "sale" at $90 isn't really a great deal. Also, some pre-built systems are tossing in old/mediocre CPUs or other parts, so you'd have to do some serious analysis of the deal to be sure you're recommending a decent product. That said, if you can find a legit good deal, like the monitor Ryan mentioned above, I'm ok with including it. Basically I'm saying it might be good to not force yourself to include a deal every week. I'm personally not interested in backwards compatible picks unless they're in Game Pass, so maybe those sections could be streamlined, but maybe most people find value in that section. Keep the game pass pick of the week for sure though. You're doing great, I just hopped on you both your patreon and the ACG patreon, you each have a great perspective on the industry.

Daniel

Hey Matty, you mentioned removing the deals section. I really hope you guys dont cause I bought one of my monitors from a deal you mentioned. I'd say, if anything, combine the gamepass/back compat segment and pick a game that satisfies one of those categories. Having one from both of you seems a bit redundant.

OCEL0T

Thanks for reading my question Matty 😁

I about lost it when Matty poo-pooed on eating potatoes with dairy and calling it disgusting. WHAT ABOUT CHEESE FRIES?! It's literally fries and dairy together and it's one of the most delicious things no cap (as the kids say).

Dustin Goncharoff

Matty, cmon bro. Idk if you’re dipping your fries with your fist when you leave behind these “potato carcasses” in your frosty, but sweet and salty is a well known flavor profile. Also potatoes and dairy is a very common thing in French cuisine, which is an underpinning for modern cuisine everywhere. Anyhow, just saying, but get off your high horse and admit when you’re doing a hot take. Love, Paco, your culinary corrections officer 😝

Paco_Luigi

Matty bro you're smoked. Fries in frostys are fire.

Man, I highly disagree with Karak on Mankind Divided. If it was Human Revolution, sure, but Mankind Divided was terrible. All this dunking on Cyberpunk does not redeem MD, if any CP 2077 is a way better game than MD when it runs properly. ALSO: #textyouCANTread
