KnockBack, Episode 179 | Spider-Man (2002 film)

Some 20 years removed from the release of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, it's easy to get lost in the weeds. After all, we are absolutely inundated with superhero media today, particularly from Marvel, whether it's movies, TV shows, and even video games. But back in 2002, Spider-Man's 21st century film debut was both quaint and extraordinary. On one hand, it's wild to think about how important this particular movie is to the landscape that would come. On the other hand, it's fun to think about what may have happened if it wasn't made at all, and if it wasn't such a rousing success. So let's chat about Toby Maguire's Peter Parker, Kirsten Dunst's MJ, and the true star of the show: Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin. And no matter what you do, please don't cause the deaths of countless innocents in selfish battle again and again and again until we're both dead!

Yeah haha they meet on the field trip which I’m not sure when it happens exactly in the school year. They eventually graduate, which would could be anywhere from April to June, then Thanksgiving is in November.

Josh Lucas

Thanks. =)

Colin Moriarty

I'm glad. =)

It just seems unnecessary. Not everything has to be a show of patriotism. I just wanna watch sports.

Colin Moriarty

I just have this memory of him wearing a goofy hat. I could be making that up.

Colin Moriarty

Depends.

Colin Moriarty

Really? I don't think I even picked that up. LOL.

Colin Moriarty

I feel like Dagan talking about the cgi and why it looks wrong encapsulates why this podcast is special

Marc McCoy

I loved that movie so much.

Going to disagree with the anthem being played at sporting events being annoying (to an extent). I love when they get a local singer or choir to sing and have them get a moment for themselves, though I find it whatever when it’s just a recording of a famous singer or a huge star. Plus, since I have a family member who sings the anthem at local events in my town, I am definitely biased here and would love to see them sing at a Yankees/Jets game someday.

I know I'm a little late on this comment, but I own the 1st appearance of hobgoblin comic book. I swear to god in the comic he's just some random guy that happens to stumble upon the OG goblins equipment. It's hilarious and ridiculous!

Simon Payne

The pressure relief valve is what causes the water to go everywhere if you take that away you have a bomb in your basement would you rather have water everywhere or would you rather have a hole going through your floor maybe out of the roof

Kc Wright

There’s a decent time jump between when Peter meets Norman and thanksgiving dinner, could be anywhere from 6 months to over a year. Is that enough time to be that close? Probably not but it’s enough for it to be okay with me lol.

Josh Lucas

Dagan and I fucking loved Blade. We definitely need to do it.

Colin Moriarty

I have been meaning to watch it for some time.

Colin Moriarty

Oooooohhh!

Colin Moriarty

I generally wanna keep the movie discussions to less than the length of the movie itself, UNLESS it really requires a deep dive into, like, themes and subject matter. Which this movie categorically does not. =)

Colin Moriarty

=)

Colin Moriarty

Heh heh.

Colin Moriarty

We'll get there, I'm sure.

Colin Moriarty

We're all caught up!

Colin Moriarty

=)

Colin Moriarty

That will be cool, if so. =)

Colin Moriarty

He's ready.

Colin Moriarty

Josie.

Colin Moriarty

Enjoy!

Colin Moriarty

Hope you enjoy. =)

The best years of wrestling was in the 90s for sure. The Monday night wars between WCW and WWF were pretty epic. Yes your right the attitude era of wrestling was different than the 80s but NWO and DX was needed to fix a stale product and NWO was easily the biggest thing since Hulkamania of the 80s. And Blade was a great marvel movie even though it was done by New Line. I think comic book movies are too big meow. I don’t need a MCU or a DCU to be completely honest

Michael Thew

The project Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons worked on is Fargo Season 2, unless they have something else coming out. Huge recommend, the show is fantastic, season 2 especially.

Retlaw

Boneeeee Saw is READYYYYYY!

“YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I SACRIFICED?!?!!” *When you’re getting the platinum trophy for a game, but the last trophy is glitched

Brandon Soto

Great episode! I really hope we do get an episode for Spider-Man 2, many still consider that up there with the best comic book films.

JP Morris

A Sunday episode of Knockback!! You boys just made my day!

NukeDukem

"Impressive..."

Max Stahl

I remember the day this came out into theatres as a kid! Can't wait to see Tobey in the new spider man movie! (It's rumored he is in it)

Michael centeno

Boooonesaaaaw!

Jason Bolla

"And they say that a hero will save us" 🎶 this movie was my childhood complete. I was 12 when I first saw it, (shout out to my mom for waiting in line so long) It still holds up to this day even with some of the cheesiness. And Sam Raimi is one bad ass director, can't wait to see what he does with Doctor Strange multiverse of madness.

Frank G.

Toby is the goat. Ready to listen to this!

Julian Zhu

I’ve watched this movie hundreds of times. I can’t wait to hear the discussion.

Zackery Parkerson

Wooo! Knockback makes for a great Sunday show!!
