Added 2021-07-20 20:21:55 +0000 UTCAt this point, you've certainly heard about "Blue Box" and all of the weirdness surrounding their upcoming PlayStation 5 game. We can't avoid it on our show -- we cover PlayStation, after all -- but it's also true that we refuse to dodge the subject. It's too god damn strange, there's way too much suggesting there's more than meets the eye here, and we want to hash it all out. Thus, we thought we'd conduct an episode with a simple premise: Lay out all of the Blue Box-related evidence and assess, once and for all, just what the hell is going on here. Is Hasan Kahraman actually Hideo Kojima. We have no idea, but it's not exactly insane to think so, and it's not weird to wonder if Sony itself is miles-deep into these muddy waters, too. No one has ever heard of Hasan Kahraman, or met him, or worked with him. And his first name just happens to be Hideo when translated from Turkish to Japanese. Nothing to see here!

For as much as I want to Believe (with a capital B) that this is another wild Hideo Kojima joint, I can't help but shake this horrible feeling that this is somehow a bunch of people in the industry trying to prop up this random indie game based on hype alone, and they're using people's interest in Silent Hill to feed into it. All the signs are pointing to a Kojima game, and the conspiracy intrigue is fascinating. But I've been misled by marketing before, so I'm very, VERY wary of this one. That said, it's all been an exciting ride so maybe we can enjoy it just for that reason alone. I sure hope it leads to something big though.

I have a theory about those old post and information on Hassan from 2015, if he is indeed a made-up designer character. What if this character was invented as something that Kojima and co were setting-up for Metal Gear Solid 5 publicity mind-fucks before all hell broke loose with Konami and they dumped their future plans. Now years later its a perfectly well set-up cover for new hijinks, if Sony has gotten Konami and Kojima to collaborate again. It's probably wrong as a theory but its fun to think about.

2021-07-20 22:01:35 +0000 UTCI’m not done with the episode yet, but Kojima Productions opened a studio in Amsterdam that could be the Dutch flag. Hasan has stated that the trailer was supposedly made at Sony’s request and that it doesn’t represent the game at all. My guess is that this game might use decima but they used unreal to throw people off the scent. It’s easy to create a fake game using unreal without wasting too much time from your team that is trying to ship whatever this is.

2021-07-20 21:42:38 +0000 UTCI should point out that it’s not just Hideo translating to Kahraman, but THEIR ENTIRE FULL NAMES mean the same thing. Not a 1:1 translation in Google like “Hideo,” but Hassan means “beautiful” and “Kahraman” means hero. “Hideo Kojima” essentially translates to “beautiful hero.” Their FULL NAMES essentially means the same thing.
