Added 2021-08-30 16:01:04 +0000 UTCWes Craven's 1984 film A Nightmare on Elm Street is one of the most beloved horror flicks ever made, a tale about a child murderer who dies, only to return to haunt the dreams of more could-be victims. Antagonist Freddy Kreuger, in particular, is iconic, but the question remains: Is this movie actually any good? Is it scary? Does it hold up? Or is it just a little too goofy and poorly-paced to be believed? We get deep into all of that, navigating with listener inquiries in hand, as always. Baseball bats and boogeymen? That's the least of our concerns.

Super late to the conversation but it was AWESOME to hear our comment super early in the episode! I totally wasn't cheesin' my ass off walking through the office lol. I wouldn't be surprised if real-estate on Elm Street is lower (my sisters house IS lower valued by about 15-20% despite being a nice house in the neighborhood)

I liked the Nightmare movies when I was younger quite a bit, but I agree the first isn’t amazing. I find a lot of older IP among various arts is not as good as people thought/think, but it was judged based on what was available at that time. Nightmare 3 (Dream Warriors) is easily the best of the series.

Also, the "uncertain whether you're in reality or a dream" was 100% intentional. I've watched tons of documentaries about this movie. It's one of my favorites.

2021-08-30 22:35:01 +0000 UTCAs someone who loves dreams and studied in college, there is a really cool horror movie called Come True on Hulu that is about doing a dream study that is very good. Super indie, but I recommend it!

2021-08-30 21:45:25 +0000 UTCI'd be interested to hear Colin's take on the remake from 2010. The original was always too corny for me and the special effects didn't help. I loved the remake. It was more serious and I thought the the introduction of micro naps was chilling. Jackie Earl Haley, for me, was creepier (when the visual effect of his face was well done) and his sense of humor was more sinister. I also felt the parents had a little more depth to them.
