Constellation, Episode 49 | Internet Friends, Medical Issues, Q-Star AGI, Shoes

Greetings! Welcome back to Constellation, Last Stand Media's conversational podcast. This week, the Brothers Moriarty are joined by LSM associate producer Ben Smith and Lockmort of Lockmort's Edits on our YouTube channel. We start today's podcast off with a basic topic that spawns a substantial back-and-forth: Shoes. Are they important to us, style and/or function? What are our favorite brands? And so on. We then veer into more serious territory, as Lockmort gives us the rundown on a gallbladder-related situation that saw him visiting the ER multiple times. Have we ever experienced any unexpected medical catastrophes? Ben wants to chat (pun intended) about so-called internet friends, the people we've met -- and perhaps only know -- online. How much of our social life is consumed by a new style of camaraderie? Finally, Colin wants to discuss a recent claim out of American company OpenAI: That something is going on behind the scenes there with its Q-Star AGI program that may threaten humanity. Or so says a Reuters report. But what does that even mean? We get into it.

OMG Ben and Lock? 🤯 When I heard Ben talking i thought “Ben is a lighter version of Lock, in the sense of humor ways” a episode with both of them? 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Colin needs to watch the movie "The Creator" perfect AI movie

I live in Upstate New York and it’s common practice to take your shoes off at the door. You walk around inside in socks or barefoot.

TheMuff1nMon

Always wore Macbeth’s when I was kid in high school lol.

KnivesDCCCVIII

Yeah, shoes indoors have always been a big 'no no'.

Aladin_Slow

speaking for all big footed men, since we are generally a modest people: them thangs do indeed be thangin'

If AI can start doing math (by knowing *how* to do math), I as a total tech layman can definitely imagine scenarios where it could rapidly become a national security risk. If it can learn exponentially quickly like the language models seem to, it could easily start doing things mathematically that’s beyond our current understanding. Having anything like that that only a computer could do could be very scary from an international security standpoint. That’s not to mention computers developing its own algorithms or code that we can’t have any safeguards on just by virtue of having no idea how it works.

My friend had testicular tortion in high school. He had to get surgery to "unwind" his nuts. He had pictures if the surgery. Almost vomited when I saw them. Glad you didn't have to get surgery Dagen!

Samurai Costanza

Hearing the conversation about Q-Star and ethics around sentient AI, I highly recommend anyone who's interested in the topic to watch season 2 episode 9 of Star Trek: The Next Generation (The Measure of a Man) Even if you're not into Star Trek, this episode is a really thoughtful exploration of whether or not the AI powered android character, Data, counts as a person through a legal trial

This is a long comment but I promise the story is worth the read. When I was 5 years old my parents went to my mom’s 20th high school reunion and my bro and I were dropped at grandma and grandpas house for the weekend. We were jumping off rocks into the pool and I fell and ruptured a kidney. I was peeing blood and it was scary so grandpa called mom and dad to meet us at the ER. This was a time before cell phones being in every pocket and I’m sure my parents were partying so they were hard to reach! This isn’t even the weird medical part yet! Long story short, when I was in the hospital they did an MRI and a CAT scan. My kidney was healing proper with bed rest but on the CAT scan they found a tumor in my inner ear and performed emergency surgery removing it 3 weeks later. Saved my life by falling at grandpas pool that day. Still have to go in for check ups 26 years later from the same doc that removed the tumor because they needed to remove cartilage from my ear to get to the tumor, leaving me with an enlarged ear canal.

I wanna shout out some of my favorite skate shoes growing up. The Chad Muska és shoes with the zipper pouch in the tongue that Muska said was to store your weed in. My mom got them for me when I was 7 and I remember telling my mom after she bought them that Chad Muska put his weed in there. She got mad lol. Then the Andrew Reynolds 3s with the diamond studs on the two top lace holes. Those came out when I was in middle school when I was skating the most and every kid that took skating seriously had them. I was obsessed with those I think I got 3 pair in a row.

My friends dad (French dude) is the original designer of the fat Etnies shoes. That look is making a comeback ironically because after they went out of style we made fun of how they looked for years .

Tanner Denso

Skaters still dress like skaters Dag. The issue is that everyone wears skate shoes and skate apparel because it looks cool. Your generation would have called them posers. Some people in my generation still threw that around but fashion hit a point where the skater look just became main stream and that has held honestly until today. Athletic wear has been on the popular rise with brands like Nike and Adidas making more skate apparel and I think it’s all kinda just blended together. That maybe why it’s hard to tell.

Tanner Denso

Talking to people regularly does not make them friends. How can someone be a friend when in locks own words, they know nothing about each other. Sorry gang but that’s not friendship.

Cory Knudsen

You definitely don’t mix brown with black (even that has exceptions though), but yeah, brown and blue is classic. Maybe he’s misremembering.

Jared R

And by the way - wisdom teeth and tonsils do serve a purpose as well.

Jason

I'm pretty sure they have found out over time that the appendix does actually serve a purpose, however small it may be.

Jason

Am I tripping or is brown shoes with blue pants a classic combo? Maybe not jeans but blue suits for sure right?

Anthony Palerino

Me hearing Dagan list me in his online friends: 🥺😭❤️

3D animator here, moved to Vancouver, B.C for my first industry job. I visited a co workers house and I wore my boots inside, you’d think I killed somebody with the looks I received. Haha I’m from Ohio!

Zachary Ward

Lockmort ALWAYS has a captivating story. Every time he's on, it's great not good.

Otacon_Ocelot

As someone who recently had his dance with appendicitis, this medical topic truly does hit different. On my second visit (went back in because I wasn't feeling so hot after being home for a day but it passed) I had a nurse who had the same vibe as Dagans doctor, very funny an made the whole experience more bearable.

Streyltas

I’ve gotten a couple UTIs for whatever reason in the last couple years and they aren’t fun at all. It is really like a panic moment right away.

king_ryan_james

Is the “Little Domino, Big Domino” that EZA was mean to Dustin and now one of their best current members jumped ship to LSM?

Jared R

Lock is SUCH a good story teller. Glad he's been getting more appearances.

Jordan Falduto

Lock!

Brad Felix

I like to play a little minigame before every Constellation episode where I guess the two guests and match everyone to the listed topics based off of the topics.
