2024-01-15 20:21:01 +0000 UTCNice ep. Gta IV was the first game i bought along with my PS3 and I sincerely thought about returning the console back to the store. Not only did it look like ass with it's 640p resolution, but it ran @20+fps all the time, and if some physics calculations ocurred (like driving into a hot dog stand), the framerate would go into single digits. Then there's the driving model that made all cars behave like they had iceskates instead of tires, and at the same time somehow making a turn impossible without using a handbrake. Then there's the floaty aiming which made hitting anyone without auto-lock a challenge, especially with the 15-20fps during combat. Then there's the fact that most of the features from previous games were stripped out - you couldn't even buy real estate/safehouses, which GTA3 had. No planes, no tanks, and all the minigames but bowling were taken straight out of SA in their entirety. There was no gang wars, activities outside of missions felt limited to exploration/mini games. I didn't even feel like running from the police since framerate and driving model were so bad. The story was good, but with a lot of stuff stripped out, the only new things were the Rage physics, mobile phone and MP. I actively avoided triggering physics so that the framerate wouldn't buckle, so that's that. Mobile phone was annoying with friends constantly calling you to do the same repetitive activities, especially since they even called you during missions and their 'loyalty' meter would go down if you had to decline an invite. MP was pretty much dead 4months after launch, with only activity that would still find games in the matchmaking being running around the statue of liberty with rocket launchers, which got stale after 5 minutes. The AI was also terrible, especially when it came to driving cars. One of the most challenging SP trophies in the game was getting a cab ride from one island to the next, cause the cab would always end up upside-down halfway through. The cars just did that all the time - they got stuck on the side, or in the middle of the road, creating massive obstacles and sometimes even costing you your mission progress. I think i got that trophy on the 5th attempt. So, yeah, there's more, but this is the stuff that comes to mind atm - suffice to say I couldn't believe the 10/10s the game was getting, cause it offered less than previous games, ran like shit, and gameplay sucked - especially with the poor aiming and driving. Thankfully I played the Killzone 2 demo next, and I knew that it wasn't the console itself that was severly underpowered, that it actually offered precise controls and good graphics - it was just GTA4 being a mess that it was.

Great job Colin bringing Brad on board for this kind of laid back but in-depth chat. Really enjoyed your takes on The Finals (been playing too) and it was nice to hear deep thoughts on GTAIV and MGS5. Hope to see Matty and Chris return together here in the future, they're great at shooting the shit. Looking forward to hopefully hearing new (but only to LSM) voices too one day.

I bought the Cold Steel collection because Matty hyped it up and then not even playing most of them. ☠️ Surprised Chris didn’t like hearing Spidey 2 was in the fans’ top 5. I’m on the opposite spectrum of Chris in regard to unlockables in shooters. If I don’t have anything to chase then I’m not interested in the long term. Even if it’s a simple Prestige system, keeps me going.

The only way I’ve improved is every time I’m alone I stopped reading in my head and instead read out loud. You will improve if you do that. When you’re putting together the show, take the comments and read them out loud instead of in your head and you will improve in no time. You’ll also get used to saying that comment, and maybe pick up on small errors here and there, so when it comes time to read it on mic you’ll be prepared. Other than that though you’re killing it. We’re gonna miss you on EZA but so glad you found a home here.
