Defining Duke, Episode 159 | Our Thoughts On Xbox's Developer_Direct 2024... - Did It Deliver?!

We saw gameplay from Avowed, Hellblade 2, Ara History Untold, Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, and even had a surprise appearance from Square Enix! With the roadmap set for the year, how do the Dukes feel about Xbox's showing? Is this enough to satiate them? Did Avowed improve from its initial showing? Will Hellblade 2 deliver a masterful experience worthy of the wait? Are the lacking of release dates concerning? We get into all of it and, naturally, so much more! We also dive into the budding conversation of Xbox games leaving the platform as Satya Nadella has seemingly indicated that with Activision in the fold, Xbox will be bringing games to beyond their platforms. If that really is the case, what does this symbolize for the future of the brand? As always, the economics of this situation is sure to bring out the best in all of us. 2024-01-21 15:20:05 +0000 UTCFirst reaction to Indy being first person I was a little disappointed but I trust MachineGames, I liked New Order and loved New Colossus and the passion is there for Indy so I have faith. I never doubt Obsidian, they’re consistently reliable for delivering 8/10 B+ level games, I just hope they’ve been given the time and money to level up as I feel like their writing does a lot of heavy lifting with their gameplay shortcomings.

I kind of get it for Alan Wake since maybe they wanted to keep the budget down but Hellblade 2 is a flagship first party release from Xbox/Microsoft. C'mon, they've got the money to put out a physical release for us old people who still want physical. Great show as always though, gentlemen! Great vibe over there as well ofc, but the audience is a little more Sony-focused than the Dukes are Xbox-focused, so maybe that's where this fanboyism comes from... no idea. On the other hand, more engagement's good for business, so they're really only promoting the show more haha.

2024-01-19 11:18:51 +0000 UTCWhy am I not surprised that even with poor animations, so so visuals, mediocre character models, a bad decision to make it first person, even worse to have a mix of first and third person perspective, the reaction of Defining Duke could be nothing other than excitement for Indiana Jones. Duh me, of course they would be excited, when was the last time they weren’t excited for an Xbox studios game? “Machine Gun is an fps studio what did you expect” makes no sense after Fable and Blade announcements. You get an IP like Indiana Jones, you get Ford’s likeness and you make it first person? What kind of fantasy fulfillment is this? People want to control Indiana and look at him, nobody ever thought “you know what would be really great? If you didn’t see Indy right? How great would that be?” What a waste.

Y’all clown games like HFW,gowR and Spider-Man 2 for being the same game as the 1st game and try to vilify them for it. But anyone who played the 1st hellblade can tell you this is essentially the same damn game. Yet a lot of you hypocrites out here TWERKING on a HEADSTAND for hellblade 2 when it falls under the exact same criteria yall try to kill Sony exclusives for…. Everything doesn’t need to be 1st person all their games look the same and are starting to blend together. They need more diversity because all these games are basically the same game.
