Constellation, Episode 56 | Gossip, True Crime, The Public Domain

Welcome to Constellation, Last Stand Media's conversational podcast. This week, the Brothers Moriarty are joined by Sacred Symbols co-host Chris Ray Gun. A trio of topics therefore await you this episode, beginning with Dagan's deep-delve into gossip. It turns out Dag's a bit of a gossiper himself, and wonders if we partake, and if so to what extent. Colin thereafter turns everyone's attention to the so-called 'public domain,' where created works across mediums reside after a certain number of years post-launch, a space where anyone can play with the likes of Count Dracula, and -- yes indeed -- Steamboat Willie. How do we feel about the rules and restrictions placed around others' creations? Finally, Chris steers us into the realm of true crime, where for reasons unknown, people fixate about the grisly downfall of others. Do we share in this cultural obsession, or are we perplexed by it all?

Well the speed limits are there for every possible vehicle and every possible weather/time of the year. They do seem too low for modern cars that brake and handle much better than the cars we had when the limits were set, but you don't want loaded trucks going around a bend faster than the limit in winter, cause even 5mph more may be a recipe for disaster in that case.

Honestly after listening to Colin’s take on the public domain (been following him since 2013) I really would love for a more political conversation from him. I’m not too dissimilar from his viewpoints on a good number of political topics but in the prior constellations episode he said he would vote for Trump in 2024 if that was his option against Biden. He’s described himself as a populist and as a Canadian, I find our parties are more “populist” than the US organizations. I guess my curiosity is how has Trump’s actions (not what he says) showed that he’s more populist? Also, as an insider looking in, your political parties are trash; they cater to the uber wealthy and no one else. Y’all are going to have riots on your hand if you don’t fix this soon… that said, the stock portfolios are doing well so I guess as a Canadian I shouldn’t complain, I just fear for my American brothers and sisters.

On the true crime topic. I’ve recently really gotten into the Mr. Ballen YouTube channel. John Ballen is the dude, former navy seal, and a great story teller. Check that dude out. It’s not all true crime but they’re all real stories sometimes involving supernatural elements.

On the first topic, I've always personally thought that you should never say something that you don't want someone else to hear. You should DEFINITELY never ever write/type that thing down. You've always gotta weigh the risk, you'll probably gossip less too, as a result. (not meant to be a judgement on gossip)

Lou & Rei Loper

“The Dagster” LOL

Jordan

“As a historian”

I avoid gossip as much as possible, it's in bad taste and I don't care about other people's drama. 95 years is way too long, should probably be more like 35. Don't watch true crime, I'm not an old lady and I don't trust that everything is always presented fairly.

Three person episodes > Four person episodes

Napoleon in Rags

Don't know if anyone reads these but hope someone at last stand can get a chuckle out of my personal pain. Was taking my lunch break listening to this at a local DCS office where I work with the windows cracked in my car. A mom and her daughter I presume walked by my window at the exact moment Chris says "What if Spider-Man were a pedophile" and the woman stared daggers into my soul and the girl looked confused why her mom was so mad. Now I fear for my job. Thanks boys 😂

I’ve also been conflicted with consuming content centered around others’ pain/worst experiences of their life. I do listen to some true crime stuff but the thought never leaves my mind “should I be listening to this?”

Jeece

Loved the public domain conversation

Alex Roberts

Holy shit, the Chris speeding ticket rant was so relatable 😂. Also his alibi being an Alexa recording of his beating off at 3am was too great 😆.

Geoff

Chris Curse Arc? He mentioned wanting to do more with the Dukes this year, missed SSxDD, and then missed Cog on this episode.

Colin Moriarty

Or instead of giving all the Jose’s different j names you call them the most obscure nickname

sotelo74

So even before Rick and Morty, Dan Harmon created the concept of Mr. Meeseeks. That’s super awesome!

NecrumOddBoy

I gotta disagree about Black Mirror not sustaining quality level. Sure, season 3 was incredible, but the recent season was, imho, tremendous

Zeke the Plumber

New Stelly! I’ve been trying to stop gossiping for a while but it’s just so fun sometimes. Thanks for all the great content guys 💙

Cyprus Davis

Patton Oswalt’s wife didn’t solve the crime. She did write a book on the golden state killer but it was still unsolved when she died. He actually got caught cuz one of his distant relatives did one of those 23andme dna tests and it got linked back to him. So it goes back to your point that no matter how careful you are, eventually you will be caught

Bogey

“ Spider-Man: The Wild Web” would be a great animated film.

Cai

As a Puerto Rican from Brooklyn, I grew up with a Juan Carlos and Carlos Juan. They’re twins. We called them Carlos 1 and Carlos 2. Also we love bochinche which is what we call gossip.

Michael Mashpotato

The best time to have a threesome is when you least expect it

Jordan campos

Didn’t expect a threesome this afternoon
