Chris has been sitting on a topic for a while, now, and it's a doozy: Which fictional characters would be on Epstein's vaunted 'list' of clients? Our answers may surprise you. Cog's curious about our ability -- or lack thereof -- to manifest positive outcomes in our lives. Do we think anything is possible, so long as we truly believe? Dagan wants to know in which ways we've succumbed to peer pressure in our lives (with a natural inclination towards old stories from our youth). And finally, Colin brings up Gina Carano's lawsuit against Disney, funded by Elon Musk, that seeks to get her reinstated on The Mandalorian. Naturally, this chat gets political, which is why we buried the topic towards the end. Be aware!

2024-02-15 13:47:32 +0000 UTCThe Carano lawsuit is clearly BS. Look at the timing - it's just Musk trying to stoke the culture war fire in election year to suit his own ends. Whilst there was a great and fair discussion on this episode around the issue, I think Colin oversimplified it a little with his own argument. She first made the pronouns gag which offended relatively few people. She was pulled up on it though, apologised, deleted and all was fine as she went quiet on social media. Then she came back with the Nazi stuff. And the face mask stuff. And the voter fraud stuff. And the insurrection stuff. This was a case of an employee who'd been repeatedly warned and educated, refusing to adjust their behaviour in the way required by their employer. Adhering to social media conduct policies is an important part of working for a large corporation, but it seemed like she just didn't care. Crucially, though, they didn't terminate her contract. It expired. And they chose not to give her a new one. I can't see how the lawsuit stands any chance whatsoever, and therefore can only conclude it's a publicity stunt by Musk. She claims that others with different opinions have been treated differently, but to equate the subjects she was posting on with actors who simply express their preference for the other side of the political spectrum is disingenuous. Pedro Pascal WAS pulled up on his social media usage, and it's telling that ever since this whole incident he's been a lot less abrasive on there to my mind. So her lawsuit will fail on that level too.

An employer has the right to fire you if they believe you are hurting their reputation\business as long as it doesn't discriminate a protected category. Just like I have ZERO issues with Melissa Barrera being fired from the Scream 7 movie for posting what they viewed as antisemitic posts. If you are going to be one of these types then I prefer you keep hustling and die on your sword like Chris' example of Shane Gillis. That's true winning. They get rid of you and you become so successful that they have no choice, but to bring you back. That's GOAT behavior right there.

I think there’s real debate on things like bathrooms, but I haven’t really seen anybody call someone a transphobe for not wanting to personally date a trans person. Same thing with the neo-pronouns. That seems fringe even within the trans community.

2024-02-12 21:45:13 +0000 UTCSo much of objecting to trans people seems so contradictory and circular to me. “Live and let live” but, “don’t group yourself with all women without explicitly stating you’re a trans woman” “I only care about the individual” but, “we need to have proper categories for people.” “You’re telling me this cis woman and trans woman are the fundamentally the same? I can clearly see that there not!” but, “I need to others to make these categories even more explicit for me so that I…. know which person I should be sexually attracted to?” It’s just… the relative impact on cis people versus the personal indignance many have around these societal shifts is hugely imbalanced compared to the stigmatization and real harm that trans people tend to experience. I absolutely take Cog’s point that some grace should be given (especially among close relations) about someone’s best intent as well, but mostly it seems to me that most of us cis people need to chill out.

That's not something you're really going to be able to talk to someone about if they see the issue fundamentally differently than you do.

She isnt entitled to the Mandalorian job. She never was. She also was given tons of chances to shut up while being a representative of the Disney Brand and she couldnt help herself. The fact she is suing them about it shows how stupid she really is that even years after the fact, she still cannot understand why she was let go. I also despise cancel culture, but there is cancel culture, and then there is never reading the room and finally being ousted by the group.

Not just him either. Other people working under the Disney umbrella had HEINOUS tweets that were ignored. If anything sinks Disney in this lawsuit, it’ll be that. She was targeted for mild opinions while colleagues were allowed to go way harder in the paint.
