This week, Colin gets things started by sharing an unbelievable tale of grand adventure featuring his dogs, Treble and Rush. Do we all create intricate and possibly fictional back stories for our pets like Colin and Micah do? Next, Dagan wants us to quiet our minds with some talk about meditation. What are the potential benefits of embracing the ancient practice of TM, and is it worth exploring what all the hype is about? As the party rages on, Micah breaks the ice with some conversation starters. Will these ideas for encouraging stimulating dialogue make us master minglers or awkward social outcasts? Finally, Dustin wants to rap about the ongoing beef between two of the world’s biggest hip-hop stars. As the the battle between Kendrick Lamar and Drake continues to escalate, the gang takes an opportunity to discuss the feud and all things hip-hop, past and present.

Damn...are Dagan and I related lol. When you named the list of some of the true greats and of hip-hop, it was one right after the other, of people and groups that I kept mentioning throughout that whole discussion. Then again we are of similar vintage, even if I am a handful of years younger than you. I didn't think I'd get anything out of that last topic, but I was wrong haha. I already knew you were into some of the artists I was into, but I didn't realize it was THAT close lol. I agree with Colin too on the rap-rock genre and ESPECIALLY the truthfulness of the lyrics in most songs. Well said.

You mention that you often listen to NPR and political commentary on the radio. You can massively reduce your stress and anxiety if you just completely cut that content out of your life. Shows like NPR consistently produce content that is all about doom and gloom and in many cases they aren't telling you the reality of the situation. That program and others like it are specifically made to cause anxiety for the listener. It will work.

It is no different than asking a nongamer about videogames....what do you expect them to say? Like, in the actual moment, it can be difficult. But of course a one-sided ass kicking of a rap beef is finally what seems to be getting him his recognition. To Pimp A Butterfly was Downbeat's (the quintessential jazz publication) album of the year. DAMN. won a Pulitzer for Christ's sake lol. Ironically, good kid m.a.a.d city is probably what Colin would see as the most diluted of his releases. It's essentially a coming of age fable set within Compton - but it's also revolutionary because he raps through different personas, the ego, the protagonists' conscious and dreams, etc. . I'd be interested to hear Ramon's take. But don't sleep on the man - he's incredible.

You start with a few minutes until you get to a point where you can go further. Col, he’s like your weight lifting. You don’t just start at 50lb dumb bells.

I pay 94 a month and the wife pays 85 for the other dog. Right now my 9 year old mini Aussie has to have a tooth removed and a lipoma removed. Estimated to be almost 5k 😭.

I would definitely recommend “To Pimp a Butterfly” a masterpiece for the ages that mixed jazz with rap in ways that were never done before while also making some of the most deep social commentary we could ever see in not only rap but any form of music.

Very Tribe, Wu vibe but with far more advanced rhyme schemes. Harry Mack is an off top freestyler who takes audience words and spins 6 minute tracks on the fly. Both are stunning artists, keeping lyrical rap alive in my book.

There is less of a barrier to entry because you determine the amount of time you meditate. Beginners often start at 5 minutes and work their way up. It also focuses less on completely clearing the mind with mantras, techniques, and chants. Instead, it teaches you to not fixate on anxieties or stressors. You are welcome to acknowledge the thought and stressor, but let it drift away as you focus back on your breathing. Sorry for the sales pitch, but I just found mindfulness worked better for me when I started looking into it like Dagan. Good luck.
