Sacred Symbols+, Episode 393 | Main Level Games: Connecting Through the Past

The retro game boom is still going strong, with collectors desperate for more places to find their favorite games from the past. While we often hear the perspective of collectors, what is it like to own and run a game store? For this episode, I (Dustin) interviewed Evan Miranda, the owner of Main Level Games, the new (and only) game store here in Butler. Since opening in November 2023, Main Level Games has exploded in popularity, garnering a dedicated community of enthusiasts around the shop. So how did Evan go from collector to store owner? What does it mean to build trust with your customers? What systems and games are the most popular? I asked Evan all about the ins and outs, but our conversation went deeper than I expected. How can games from the past evoke more than just nostalgia and lead us to deeper conversations? This conversation was a blast, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

How expensive are the retro games he sells? Sounds ridiculously priced just based on how Evan phrases things

Allentown sucks lol. I’m coming to Butler because it sounds like a great place.

Evan seems really nice. I usually go to the warp zone when venturing out of Pittsburgh to get games but I think I’m gonna give his store a visit next time!

I really enjoyed this conversation! Evan was a well spoken and interesting guest, and it was super cool to hear a small business owner talk about their experience, especially in the context of video games. The questions asked were ones I was also asking while listening, so great hosting

Love the energy

Have you considered considering considerations considerately considerate

This was a great listen and makes me wish I had a store like this in my area. That story of the parents selling their son’s old games after having passed had me tearing up. Excellent work. Thanks for doing this. Hopefully we hear more from Evan. He was great.

Joe Donnelly

Very chill listen. Went by fast. Wish Evan all the success.

Great episode . Fun insights

Great episode, Dustin! I hope we get to hear more from Evan in the future. I have a lot of respect for the “mom and pop” style video game stores. They’re so few and far between these days.

You can tell the man works a very public facing job talking to a lot of people. Man is very well spoken and charming
