Defining Duke, Episode 196 | Our Starfield: Shattered Space Review Is HERE - Did It Deliver?!

Starfield faced a mighty amount of criticism throughout its 2023 launch. In today's gaming climate, this set the stage for what could be a big comeback for Bethesda Game Studios with the Shattered Space expansion. So, did it deliver? Matty has played 16 hours and finished it with Cog just getting his adventure started, so they both have much to say!

Name a more iconic duo than Matty and talking about himself.

Stephen Lucey

Waited till I finished to come back to this. Spent like 24 hours with it and enjoyed it a lot, I didn't have any crashes on quality mode. Enjoyed the underlying themes of science/religion and politics with all of the choices you could make. Some side quests were really really good and the dialogue was good. But I do wish there was some unique stuff like part of the orahim quest as an example, and wish they gave you a cut scene at the end of the main quests when you make your last choice so you can see the impact on the world like the main quest in base.

Oblivion, fallout 3 and Skyrim were groundbreaking, and generational games. They were legendary back then. Sad what they've become.

Bailey Callis

Yeah I've been very lucky they are remaking things I've never played or the exact games I have wanted to replay

Gooch Gobbler

Never got the Bethesda hype. Most overrated dev imo. TBF I never played Skyrim but not enticed after the other games I have tried

Gooch Gobbler

Is an 85 really a might amount of criticism? Without politics Stafield is an easy 9. Shattered space... not so much...

Isaac Kleese

It's getting bad man, almost at the point where Xbox should intervine and restructure the way Playstation has with Bungie, I honestly hate to say.

Bailey Callis

I've been saying that to my friends man. They clearly felt themselves a whole lot after Skyrim. They no longer have the drive and passion after making billions. Bethesda haven't evolved in any meaningful way at all since then, let's just be completely honest, in fact, I believe they have regressed.

Bailey Callis

Matty has had enough of all the bs, and I'm so here for it!

Bailey Callis

Watching the Bethesda seal of quality completely die has been tragic man.

Bailey Callis

Let’s face it BGS peaked big time with Skyrim. Not that Fallout 4 or Starfield isn’t “good”, but they are just not great like they used to be.

Zack E

Some of them are for P.O.W.’s….others are for children and families.

Kojima Made Me Gay

Matty was right about Shattered Space. Underwhelming DLC. I would not recommend it. You’re not missing anything. Forgot it was $30, that’s insane. #ShatteredDD

NeO JD

No time stamp for the headline discussion?

Beaver diva

Wish they skipped Starfield and went to elder scrolls

Robbie Agnew

If ubisoft wants to make some real money, they need to re-release the 360 naruto games. Those games were the shit and theyre stuck on 360

Mr Marty Plays😬

Kelzilla

Uhhhh.. are you referring to the military prisons holding Hamas and Hizb'Allah members??

Mr. Scott If You're Nasty

Initially, I'd say this was my reaction. Then, I remembered Fallout 76.

Cool story bro

Joseph Gedgaudas

Not to get political…but Israel does have concentration camps tho 🤔

Kojima Made Me Gay

The fact that only like .05 percent of all starfield players on xbox have even beat the first mission of the expansion is probably not a good sign for Bethesda and the future support of this game. Hard to see how they can justify spending much more time (and money) on it.

Derik Mozzarella

Matty was spitting facts in the Starfield sections

You couldn’t play the last of us on ps4 via backwards compatibility right? Horizon you could play it on PS5. I think that’s the main difference.

Jay

The difference was that the ps4 version of the the last of Us was a major upgrade to the paltry ps3 version by comparison.

Special Needs Cannon

“Now we’re getting into this strange territory of games that are not that old and still look graphically impressive that need a new can of paint” Welcome to 2014, when The Last of Us Remastered came out on PS4. That wasn’t a big deal then, and it’s not a big deal now.

Hugh Jalode

Oops 😆🤒

Classic Marty

Lol

Good ole marty

Shattered Space was honestly the last straw to me regarding BGS. All I wanted was something on the level of Far Harbor but what I got felt honestly just like another faction quest or some cut content from the base game. At least now I expect something really mediocre when The Elder Scrolls 6 drops and anything over that would be a nice surprise, but at this point I just feel like BGS is a skeleton of what it once was.

Breno Bezerra Bluhm

Marty keeping it real. Thanks

Robbie Agnew

Seconded. I would personally prefer Matt to do content like that on his personal Patreon during the holiday season he takes his break.

Bartevious

Starfield is very Daggerfall coded, but its exploration is almost Morrowind esque. Morrowind is not really the oblivion-Skyrim era environmental storytelling exploration. The quests in Morrowind serve as a vehicle to your exploration, which is how starfield feels built. In my opinion, they drop the ball when Morrowind has flawless open world design that is extremely dense and calculated with its layout. Starfield is the exact opposite. I will play shattered space with an open mind though, and will see what I think.

Bartevious

I respect that Matty felt the need to re-do his review, but I would have been interested in seeing the raw and unfiltered cut of his Shattered Space review.

Adam Razak

The fact the Cog, the biggest Starfield Stan in the universe, says if you love Starfield then you'll be "fine" with this expansion is a gigantic YIKES. Bethesda way over-promised with this expansion. Such a missed opportunity.

Zac Lebeau

I think people underestimate the amount of gamers who came in at PS4/PS5 that aren’t going back to emulate things, most of these remakes I’d never played like RE2-4 and FF7, and hopefully silent hill have been my favorite “new” games.

Yeti ATL

Matty!! You’re right how bout them METS last night! Game 3! Go Brew Crew!
