Great episode fellas! Keep up the great work Brad

Brannon H

Yeah, Blair Witch and The Medium are rough but Lof 1 + 2 and Observer are excellent.

Jimmy Champane

lol okay buddy

Matty, on Starfield, I wouldn’t say it’s a fault of jetpacks or floating but more of just bad map design or gameplay design in general when you add in how poorly the car maneuvers and dips the frame rate. To that influence question: Matty is an influence on Trails. While I don’t like the series, I would’ve never even heard of or tried it if it wasn’t for him. Ben Moore, Michael Huber, and Brad are the reason I tried and got into Yakuza, Persona, and probably FF7 Remake as well. Frame Trap shout out. ❤️

NeO JD

Really love Matty’s perspective on platinums. The best trophy lists guide you through getting the most out of a game.

Alan Wake 2 - Alan WOKE

Ys X mentioned by Matty. Hell yeah.

Cameron

The alphabet mafia has infiltrated every facet of entertainment and they deserve nothing but contempt and disrespect, eastern game devs will save us

Scott

Everything I said is an objective fact and 100% indisputable l. It started in 2014, and I will hear no gaslighting on the matter.

Brandon V

Well Matty I have some terrible news regarding the BGS answer to Shattered Space. It seems they are 100% tone deaf indeed. As long as Emil Pagliarulo is not only a part of BGS but an important and influential part of BGS then I’m convinced they are never releasing another good game.

Brandon, I can tell you've never had an interview as a developer. It's pretty hard to fake your skills and if you can, that's the fault of the interviewer not the person doing the interview. Game dev is extremely difficult, I would never want to do it after I found out what it entails. No one saw some poster about game dev diversity and just decided to become a dev, it is a grueling path and everyone knows that when they pursue dev after a year or so. It would be much easier to do a less intense industry for programming, industries that have those same diversity initiatives, so your logic doesn't make sense

Gooch Gobbler

Lock was being condescending but Starfields faults 100% actually make Fallout 4 a better game now. Fallout 4 feels like a breath of fresh air after dealing with the constant fast travel and skill tree progression of Startield.

I understand your point a little better now sorry for my reading comprehension. I actually agree with you, but also I think there are very very very talented teams with high levels of diversity (supergiant for example) - diversity is a fine biproduct and shouldn’t be avoided. However it shouldn’t be your formula. Once it becomes the formula you lose the plot, diversity for diversities sake is bad I agree. Talking about virtually any dev with over 100 employees in the USA at this point. However I still think you can’t ignore a few of the other points I made in regards to the direction of gaming. More diverse teams haven’t made games cost 100x more. Maybe 70 percent more if you’re in Cali or Washington tho 😂 Agree many studios are wasteful/inefficient and need to go away.

Bartevious

Not character diversity, dev diversity. Thats not saying it’s bad to have more diverse developers, it’s the way they went about it that is bad. They filled the industry with people who have zero passion for games. They started pushing stem and game development courses hard to women and non white men in 2014, they weren’t looking for people with passion to create. They were looking for anyone who wasn’t white, fast tracking them to a career in game development and now the industry is flooded with mediocre to bad developers who can’t get games out in a timely manner due to lack of passion and talent, thus driving up costs and releasing mediocre products late.

Brandon V

Brandon, With respect I don’t think you can pin the current state of the games industry on character diversity in games. Is it a sickness that has infiltrated major publishers and devs? I think so. Are games exponentially more expensive to make than 2014 and prior? I think so. Does this lead to bigger games taking less risks and differentiating themselves more? I think so. Does the lack of competition between console holders in the last 10 years have anything to do with it? I think so. Nintendo has fallen in its own pocket, Sony has fallen into their own pocket, and Microsoft is just doing whatever it can to try and be relevant and profitable while talking out of both sides of their mouths. There is nuance, *in my opinion*

Bartevious

Matty - I disagree that Halo studios is just a rebrand. There seems to have been a very very very high level of turnover at 343i/halo studios since the release of halo and also in the last several months. This feels like the SuperSonics rebranding to the thunder and having a completely new team and culture aside from a few vets. Random ass example if you watch basketball I know you’re a hockey guy.

Bartevious

Hard agree with Lock here. I played the game and was expecting more complex political intrigue but after the big bad is revealed it turns into kingdom hearts.

Special Needs Cannon

In all honesty, the FFXVI loathing is a bit of a joke. I played it for 3 or 4 hours at launch and thought it was okay, just didn't have the time to push through. It didn't give me GoT vibes though, but it didn't need to. One day I'll get back to it, especially now that it's on PC. - Lock

Lockmort

I really don't understand what Lock's problem is with FF16? It also deals with themes of racism in a serious way and I can absolutely see the parallels to Game of Thrones even though I've only seen the first two seasons. I felt like the story is very grounded and serious and explored the themes in a mature way. I absolutely loved that about it. I think Lock saw "giant magic person" and wrote the game off in the first ten minutes because of his bias against Japanese games or JRPGs in general.

Zac Lebeau

Greatly appreciate all the suggestions!! I’ll write in for the next episode and let you know what I decide on.

Nick Vieu

We do not need nuance in gaming discourse. It is very black and white. There is a clear and obvious reason why the games industry is in its current state, and it all started around 2014. There was a huge push to get non white men into the gaming industry. A push to get more women and minorities in, the problem is, because of that push, you have an industry filled with dispassionate people. People who see it as nothing but another career. They have no passion to create. They have no passion for art. They were not naturally drawn to games. They were mediocre people who were told they could have a career. You are now seeing the fruits of that initiatives labor play out. An overcrowded industry filled with non artists who think a job in the arts gets done on a 9-5 schedule. Many people need to lose their jobs, many studios need to be closed. This industry needs a reset.

Brandon V

Gonna be a banger episode. Also the thumbnail is fire!

Michael Welter

Observer never gets any love or recognition. Only Layers of Fear gets mentioned. Observer is an atmospheric masterpiece, anyone who has played it knew they were going to nail SH2

Brandon V

Great line up. This has gone on to be one of Playstations best years in a long time. Honestly, they have ensured to always have something lined up exclusively to fill put holes from first party. Rise of Ronin Stellar Blade Helldivers 2 Pacific Drive Astro Bot Wukong Rebirth And now Silent Hill 2. Damn that's a stacked year, and not even including all the multiple games.

Jacob Lesperance

Exciting !!! Diving in
