Sacred Symbols+, Episode 229 | The Marketing Intern

Please welcome Jeremiah Potter to Sacred+. Jeremiah is a senior at the University of Kentucky, and his studies there led him to an interesting experience this past summer, when he worked as an intern at Unity Technologies. Unity is a huge company in the gaming industry, employing more than 5,000 people and earning more than a billion dollars in annual revenue. (You'd probably know them best from their titular engine that powers the likes of Hollow Knight, Kerbal Space Program, Tunic, Inscryption, Death's Door, and so much more.) Jeremiah is a prime example of what I often talk about on our show: That the games industry has a varied appetite for people with all sorts of skill-sets, not just ones rooted in the creation of games themselves. As a 'growth marketing' intern, Jeremiah interacted with a sector of gaming many don't even know exist, and his experience is proof that you, too, can make your way inside, if you work hard enough (and catch a little bit of luck along the way).

I just interned with the Multiplay sales team at Unity this summer at the same time as you and recognized your name! What a small world! Awesome seeing you on a podcast I’ve been listening to for years. Best of luck!

I don't know how Full Sail is looked at holistically, but I know many people who consider it unnecessary at best, and a joke at worse. Maybe 10 years ago, it was something better.

Colin Moriarty

That's called business. =)

Colin Moriarty

Indeed. He's gonna go places.

This was an interesting episode. It makes me curious to get the perspective of a student who goes into school for game development, be it art, programming, music, etc. I wonder about Full Sail. Is it a joke? Is it legitimate? The success rate of a university like it is interesting to me.

I love the “you’re working so hard you make other people look bad” type things. We’ve had competitors complaining about our toy store that our prices are too cheap cuz it makes them look bad. Hilarious.

Kenneth Koepnick

Wow, talk about determination and passion. Never thought about how much hard work goes into chasing a dream job. I kinda fell into my job and only then became passionate about the industry I'd ended up in. Fair play to JP for putting in the graft. Especially at an age where most are just enjoying a good piss up!

Liam Marshall

I'm not sure I understand?

Colin Moriarty

Thanks for taking the time.

Colin Moriarty

The reaction at the end when Col mentioned your game in the future was wholesome. Best of luck to you.

NeO JD

This was a ton of fun, thank you for having me on the show!

Jeremiah

Was this episode about Jeremiah or Colin? Lol
