Yes, the Final Fantasy vs Call of Duty argument is a shallow argument that is easily broken with just a little bit of nuance and talk. They are not the same….not even close. Apples vs grapes…

Matty, the term you’re looking for is “Hoegied”

Rick is always a wonderful guest. This episode both informative and entertaining which was surprising since ABK has been talked to death already.

He's had a seat at the table since 2018: https://www.cnet.com/tech/tech-industry/xbox-chief-aims-to-be-the-voice-of-consumers-inside-microsoft/

Microsoft has never seen Xbox as important as it is until the last couple of years. Phil Spencer has gone from answering to Middle Management answering directly to the CEO of the entire company and been granted a CEO position of himself. The Xbox and Microsoft of today is not the Xbox and Microsoft of 5 years ago.

I see this idea thrown around a lot and it always reads as childish to me. Xbox has had access to Microsoft's war chest since 2018. Why would the implosion of this deal suddenly trigger them to go "scorched earth?" They've had access to THAT button for years now. And what about the Bethesda deal? Isn't the giant already woke? Man, this is so weird. People are really expecting Sony to lie down and get killed without putting up a fight.

I have spoken.

It seems mind boggling to me that a lot of intelligent people can't tell the difference between PlayStation purchasing temporary exclusive rights to FFXVI a game series that its last iteration sold 10 million copies, and Xbox buying the entire publisher that owns CoD that sells about 30 to 50 million copes every year. Also no mention of how Xbox bought ZeniMax and has kept all their new games off of the PlayStation store despite some vague wording by Microsoft they might do the opposite. Also no mention of Microsoft's established business practices in the digital space, which were taken to court and District Court Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson ruled that the company violated multiple sections of the Sherman Antitrust Act. Was also hoping for some discussion about how the current political climate is that big tech is targeted by both sides right now, albeit for different reasons. There is A LOT of political will to take lawsuits against one of FAANG, which is what I think helps inform and explain the Meta situation. I think taken all into context, a lot of people are under estimating the likelihood that this deal substantially changes.

People would lose it big time.

Who's gloating?

All of this is baffling to me tbh. It's like when The Japanese decided to bomb Pearl Harbor and dragged America into WW2. Playstation isn't just facing off against Xbox, they are tip toeing arouns and thinking they aren't going to wake up the sleeping giant that is Microsoft if this deal implodes.

Tonys_Always_Write

People would be enraged.

I can understand PlayStation trying to keep COD on PlayStation maybe some other Activision titles. I think the bigger question is would we all feel the same if the boot was on the other foot. What would people say if it was PlayStation buying Activision & Xbox arguing against it?

Wayne Moss

I don’t understand the argument “PlayStation has exclusives, it’s funny they’re fighting this deal” .. Both Xbox and Sony have their exclusive titles. Gloating about Microsoft buying Call of Duty (Activision) feels like a desperate “haha we got something that’s worth something, but I’m not a fanboy” Gross

This is gonna be good !
