If true, The Last of Us: Part III is one of at least two games in-development at Naughty Dog, news that is being met with equal parts excitement and disappointment. With other happenings pointing towards a God of War TV show at Amazon, and with so much of Sony's strategy seemingly relying on PlayStation's existing IP, it makes sense to wonder something very simple: Where are the new could-be franchises? When it comes to AAA fare, we've gotten one from the first and second party in PlayStation 5's entire lifecycle to date in the form of Returnal. Should we be concerned? Or should we put our faith into a brand that -- let's be honest -- has largely treated us very well over the last decade-plus, particularly when it comes to what matters most. Other news this week includes official word of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters' imminent PS4 release, the announcement of Ys X: Nordics, the exit of one of Media Molecule's co-founders from the studio after 16 years, and much more. 2022-12-23 04:53:48 +0000 UTCWhy is anyone disappointed or concerned that The Last Of Us: Part 3 is in development? Look at all the IP that has gone 1, 2, 3, very quickly. Uncharted, Killzone, God Of War, Gran Turismo, Resistance, InFamous (technically), and many more. This is completely normal, expected, desired, and smart. Talk about jaded. Especially with the HBO series coming out. What IP made it to a film or series while people simultaneously thought the game series should be over? How many IP’s are we begging for a fourth, fifth, or sixth installment of? Stop holding Naughty Dog, and Sony in general, to such a separate standard than every other creator, producer and facilitator of art in the world.

It's very rare that a game hooks me in the first 5 minutes but this made me feel like the first time I played FFII(IV) on the SNES so many years ago. It's amazing how fresh it feels. Highly recommended to Colin AND Dustin.

Imagine the emotions and intensity they could bring to this beautiful tale about a father son relationship. Need proof? Go watch After Earth, a masterpiece of a movie that'll show you the potential these 2 can bring. What's that you say? Will Smith isn't buff enough? My guy haven't you seen the transformations that Hollywood fitness trainers are capable of? Oh what's that Will Smith can't do fight scenes? Have you seen him SLAP?!! He's more than capable of doing his own fight scenes. I'm joking, maybe.

Unfortunately, Xbox is the Dallas Cowboys of gaming; year in and year out we hear, "This is their year, this is their year" but we're always met with mediocrity and empty promises. Maybe they'll start delivering bangers, and maybe the Cowboys will actually win a superbowl but I'll believe it when I see it

2022-12-19 18:40:01 +0000 UTCHonestly I think that quote (of him being happy for SSM to be known as the GOW studio) is being overstated a little bit by this stage, I swear I've heard it brought up in 3/4 podcasts since. The same article states that the studio is spread across a few different projects now, but they aren't ready to say more just yet. After the 2021 PS showcase, Barlog himself said that he was working on something new. I took the Williams quote to mean more that they're so proud to be known for a franchise for GOW and aren't ashamed of being known as "that" studio - not that they're exclusively going to do GOW games from here on

2022-12-19 13:01:21 +0000 UTCJust weighing in about the games transitioning into movies and tv shows. I’m not interested in watching any of these whatsoever. However, I hope these things are a success. I love single player games and the ability for Sony to find additional ways to monetize these SP properties (IMO) is crucial to continue receiving these. These IPs don’t have the legs to be providing revenue for years and years like service-games. So bring on the movies and TV shows to fund these single-player properties.
