Defining Duke, Episode 103 | An In-Depth & Critical Look At Fallout's Future

Fallout is a series that is near and dear to our Duke hearts and undoubtedly one of the lead reasons behind Xbox's purchase of Zenimax Media. While Fallout 76 lives on, many wonder where the next mainline entry lies and with whom. You see, Xbox has a unique talent issue when it comes to this particular franchise as they happen to own all the teams with members that are responsible for what Fallout is today. Brian Fargo, Feargus Urquhart, Josh Sawyer, and Todd Howard all have left their mark on the series. The question really becomes, how can Xbox best utilize this talent to bring Fallout to new levels? More importantly, can we get our hands on Fallout remasters? What of remakes? What fills the gap ahead of Fallout 5 which is arriving after Elder Scrolls 6? Will Obsidian be able to produce Fallout New Vegas 2? While tantalizing, the future of this extremely popular series is surprisingly uncertain. That doesn't account for its new TV show in production that marks the series first ever piece of expansion material. Joining us is AnchormanV to chat all things Fallout and how Xbox can figure this one out.

Thank you both so much for the content and I hope you're having an awesome break!

Fallout 5 is inevitable, the series is too successful to just put on ice. We are getting an Indiana Jones game from Bethesda GS, which I'm personally really excited for. I think a huge part of what made New Vegas special and a fan-favorite was the writing, so if I was at Bethesda I would definitely offer Fallout 5 to Josh Sawyer. I think a lot of fans would be won over if Fallout 5 is a sequel to New Vegas, which was really a sequel to Fallout 1 and 2.

Loved the show Dukes! Hearing you all talk about 76's comeback really has me wanting to jump in and try it again. I think it's at a point where I could love the content. The issue I have whenever I play is the desync. Taking a few seconds to load as I pick up an item in the world or taking a minute to register that an enemy is dead is not easy for me to stick with. Any suggestions on how to get past that or is it just a connection issue on my end? Thanks for the awesome content and happy holidays!

Faith is real small in the fallout IP. When obsidian is pumping out the outer worlds and 2 on the way. I don’t think anyone can live up to the execution of a new traditional fallout like Bethesda and obsidian did. Now with Starfield on the way too, maybe we should demand something new. I mean do we want the Todd Howard team to go back and do a 5th installment? I’m okay with new IP from them or a remaster from someone else.

Seperate game made with mostly reused assests from FO3... Could be compared to a full game sized mod

Is FNV a dlc or entirely separate game? I missed gaming for many years and am now stupid.

Michael

That makes sense!

Where does Cog live?! I’m worried about him. Every single episode multiple sirens sound off. Stay safe C!
