Constellation, Episode 2 | Modern TV, Home Cooking, Social Media, Billionaires

It's time once more for Constellation, Last Stand Media's conversational podcast. For this episode, the Brothers Moriarty are joined by the co-hosts of Defining Duke: An Xbox Podcast. Cog wants to chat about contemporary television, our respective migrations to digital subscriptions, and how our viewing behaviors have changed over time. Matty is curious about the ways we interact with social media, and how we deal with the overwhelming negativity it can introduce. Dagan brings cooking to the table (pardon the pun), and inquires about the cast's culinary skills, tastes, and expectations. And finally, Colin expresses concern over the very existence of billionaires, a few thousand global citizens who are so beyond the traditional definition of "rich" that it defies their very sense of reality.

Forgive me if you guys get to this. Here in the midwest as a Comcast customer, I don’t even have the option to drop cable. I pay for 800mbps broadband and cable just comes with it. I could return my boxes but all I would save is the equipment charge. The basic cable package with no premium content is part of the package.

Greg Hommel

I can totally relate on having a ton of services for sports. Mine are all for soccer and the NFL. I have YOUTUBE TV for the Premier league and NFL, Peacock for the Premier League. Apple TV for the MLS and Paramount for SERIE A. its just insane lol

Myles kennison

“That’s way too happy for the British.” 2 Eps in and I’m fairly certain this is the best show you’ve ever had in your entire podcast run. Love it. Solid gang. ❤️

Colin has legitimately cared for the working man for as long as I’ve been a fan of his (8 years or so). His point is pretty obvious, games have been at a static price point since I began gaming in 1987. Costs to produce these products have increased exponentially. It’s not a sustainable model. In my opinion, cost of games can and should scale with the experience provided. Would you pay 99 dollars for a AAA TLOU type suer experience or a polished mmo lite tgat you will probably sink 300 hours into? I would without a doubt. Frankly it would’ve less annoying than nickel and dimeing people with season passes. Colins argument is clear. To be honest, making it seem like it’s some clear mutually exclusive choice is at a minimum an over simplification and likely disingenuous

Timothy Martin

Colin suddenly caring about people on low incomes is a bit of a weird turn given how much grief he's given those who think games are getting too steep in price on SS.

Mark Whittington

The Best Colin! The Best!

Joe Nace

I’m with Matty - I only watch TV with my girlfriend on weekends, usually like a movie or two. I’d much rather play video games, cancelled streaming services

TheMuff1nMon

Colin you’ve done a good job with different people you’ve assembled for this channel as a whole. Despite never having done a podcast together before, Dagan, Cog and Matty worked together really well. Same thing with the last constellation with Chris, Dustin and Dagan. It really shows how great this group is when you can change up the cast and it still always works. Loving this format thanks for bringing it back 👍🏻

Messenger

Yes, that could be.

Colin Moriarty

Ketchup is good with everything. =)

Colin Moriarty

If a benefactor fixed any city, the people would just destroy it again within 10 years. If people don’t work for what they have, they don’t care if it gets destroyed.

Taylor kazemba

Ketchup on pork chops is amazing. Dunking grilled cheese in ketchup is awesome too.

Taylor kazemba

All good

Dylan Paulson

Obviously not, Mike. LOL.

Colin Moriarty

Yeah, I didn't quite mean it corporately.

Colin Moriarty

I can ask.

Colin Moriarty

I'll suggest it to the guys.

Colin Moriarty

Thanks for listening. Sorry to hear. =\

Colin Moriarty

I have no interest in taxing millionaires.

Colin Moriarty

It all comes down to class.

Colin Moriarty

Working in state (but not local) government I can tell you that billionaire individuals can't just come in and do infrastructure projects on their own. It probably goes without saying, but unfortunately only governments have the legal authority to do a lot of the "city rebuilding" stuff discussed in this episode. And to my knowledge there is no clean way for a billionaire to donate millions into a government fund without the government being able to do whatever they want with those funds. I agree with the idea in theory but the laws and regulations prohibit the type of city saving discussed here. Great episode though!

Mike Po

I'm not even sure they are on good terms, doesn't even seems like any of the KF crew has reach out to Colin ever.

Kasual7

Just a small correction: HBO isn't independent. They're owned by Times Warner (which also recently merged with Discovery becoming Warner Discovery). And, yes Nickelodeon is owned by Paramount but they themselves are also owned by ViacomCBS. Overall: it's a whole mess that creates billionaires (segue to next topic)

Dylan Paulson

Would you ever consider convincing the Producer/Seducer Nick to join you on one of these? Probably very unlikely given how that community has thrown its own under the bus in the past, but man I miss Colin and Nick shooting the shit.

plzsendpie

So good. Thanks for another great one. Any chance we could have time stamps for the different topics?

Gareth Handa

I know I'm very late to the comments, but I just gotta say how much I loved this episode, specifically the billionaire segment. I feel everyone had insightful takes, but even If I had hated the takes, I'm so thankful you simply had the conversation. Great Job. On a side note, my Grandmother died from cancer after her doctor repeatedly said she was fine. She kept telling them something was wrong and he continued to shrug her off. In the end it was her arthritis doctor that was worried enough to get her checked out. By then it was everywhere and she died a few weeks later. She was my closest person. So Cogs story resonated with me in a deep way. I'm glad he was able to avoid that outcome. Sorry for writing a novel but it truly hit me hard. Great job as always and take care.

Michael Rogers

To fix massive wealth inequality I would at least: - Curtail corporate lobbying and other money in politics. - After that implement a progressive extreme wealth tax (around 32 million and up) that includes capital income. - And make it that this extreme wealth tax can only be used on certain things (social programs, infrastructure etc.) This probably isn't possible but it is interesting to think about.

Dennis

Very nice! Is good to see people realize the complete failure of capitalism to provide the most basic goods and services to even all of the US population. While idolizing people who are objectively evil, if nothing else by not helping others with their massive wealth. Enough with left and right rethorics that pin the working class against each other. Time to change the system

Pasqual Ribot

Or just don't be vegan. =D

Colin Moriarty

=)

Colin Moriarty

I've not, no.

Colin Moriarty

Matty - you were lacking vitamin B12 - only available from animal sources. Need to supplement when on vegan diet. Awesome show!

The Devmeister

Two questions for a smoothbrain like me: Did we ever figure out if the logo is in fact supposed to be California on the left and connecting over to the East Coast where the other boys live? And second, is it called Constellation because it's connecting the various stars of LSM?

Sindri

This show makes me so happy. 😆 Random question; Colin have you read Tucker Carlson's Ship of Fools? Your topic brought it to mind. Potentially worth checking out.

Bambi_Cobblestone

Thanks. =)

Colin Moriarty

I agree with your last sentence.

Colin Moriarty

Thanks. =)

Colin Moriarty

Good to know. I had MLB.tv way, way back, and it was a crapshoot. (NHL, too.)

Colin Moriarty

Thank you. =)

Colin Moriarty

Maybe so. I'm not so sure, though.

Colin Moriarty

Noted.

Colin Moriarty

No doubt.

Colin Moriarty

He's a real one.

Colin Moriarty

Noted.

Colin Moriarty

Not soon enough.

Colin Moriarty

Shoutout to tofu.

Colin Moriarty

Absurdity.

Colin Moriarty

It's the thing I hate about him.

Colin Moriarty

Thanks. =\

Colin Moriarty

America the Beautiful.

Colin Moriarty

That's an interesting technique.

Colin Moriarty

Thank you! We're amped, too.

Colin Moriarty

=)

Colin Moriarty

Yes.

Colin Moriarty

I love this show, I’m learning so much more about you guys

OCEL0T

I've never really understood this argument that its a billionaires responsibility to fix the homeless problem. Especially when you see all these trillion dollar bills being passes by the government. How about taking a fraction of that money and have the government fix the homeless problem? The amount of money that goes to Ukraine and is not even accounted for is absolutely insane...

Fat Lee Adama

This show is rad. Love hearing everybody in this context

Paul Andrew

You should let Matty know that on the YouTube MLB broadcasts, you actually have the option to switch to either teams local radio broadcast. I'm a Mariners fan and they had a few games they had on YouTube this last season and having the local broadcasters was such a Godsend (especially since the Mariners radio team specifically is absolutely awesome).

Josh Gamez

Constellation is proving to be such a great meld. It feels organic coming to us now, as opposed to starting out with a show of this nature. Each personality has had time to build separately and now that they are coming together it feels really great.

Noah Trujillo

I'm not shocked that this show is popular! The whole is greater than the sum of its parts; both your personalities and content make your shows great. You're center-left now, in my opinion, Colin. The spectrum has been pulled leftward and you've taken a step or two in that direction with the healthcare/UBI talk. You're pretty much in alignment with Tim Pool, from what I've gathered. We should be much more concerned with government power, and the extent to which corporations collaborate with government to negative effect. They're passing the buck to some individual billionaires (Elon) and not others; I take that as it's an attempt at a distraction.

Max Stahl

Loved it. Constructive feedback: Not all people will find all topics interesting so time stamps would be a great addition.

J

Shout out to all my fellow Floridians. Truly we are PVP unlocked

Retlaw

Shout out to Matty for the AEW love

Niall Harrison

The pedigree of this show is unmatched. I think it’s the single greatest thing this crew has ever done. Cancel all other shows! ;)

Haisten Smith

On the subject of billionaires, when is that Heinz ad money coming in?

macdaddyx4

Loving the new Constellation show guys, and your individual topics and thought processes behind them. Matty as a chef, press the tofu with kitchen towel paper but not too hard as it'll crumble, chop it up into cubes. Season or marinate it and then line a piece of parchment paper on a tray, and heat to about 425 till the edges are browned

Zack Fair

https://mkorostoff.github.io/1-pixel-wealth/ Interesting site which shows the sheer scale of wealth we're dealing with when it comes to multi-billionaires.

Aoife

I like Matty alot more now that I know he's a Ranger fan

Angel DeJesus

This is literally the best show you have ever done Colin.

Brian Comstock

On the subject of cops, I present this episode of cops where an actual person paid by the government goes under cover as a clown to humiliate and arrest prostitutes for our entertainment: https://youtu.be/DS8_nC7gpN8

NoodleBarone

At least he didn't say that he puts ketchup in his pasta sauce. That'd be more egregious haha!

Quinnton from Spokane

Please tell me you were joking about eating rice with ketchup, Colin. That is a straight up war crime.

Hidari Shotaro

Agreed on how annoying it is to keep track of all your subscriptions. What I’ve started doing is subscribing to everything through my iPhone with my Apple account. That way you have a nice consolidated list of all your subscriptions on your phone that you can subscribe and unsubscribe with the touch of a button. And if you let your phone handle your passwords then you don’t even need to remember anything. It’s all there in one place with all info like next billing date, how much it is, etc at a glance.

Bogey

Thank you for the heads up! We've taken care of it. :) -Dustin

Dustin Furman

So stoked for this. Love that the whole crew is coming together more frequently.

Gaelan K

I subscribed to Constellation on my podcast app (separate from the Patreon RSS feed) and episode 2 popped up in my feed last night at midnight. Wasn't sure if you all intended for the episode to go live on public feeds before you made the traditional Patreon post.
